August 31, 2004 Douglas E. "Doug" Blandford, 93, life resident of The Valley, died Tuesday at the VA Medical Center. He was a mechanic at L.C. Smith and retired in 1976 after 18 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 2893, Solvay,charter and oldest member of Valley Men's Club, charter and oldest member of American Legion Valley Post 1468 and a member of Operating Engineers Local 545. He was an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues at Valley Sports Center. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Waters) Blandford in 1999. Doug is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Glenn Monnell of Camillus; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Shirley Blandford of Fulton; eight grandchildren. "Big Jim" Bullard, 57, of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday, September 2, after a long illness. He was born in Lumberton, NC, to the late Seirs and Pauline Bullard and was a graduate of Lumberton High School. He moved toSyracuse in 1966 and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He retired from Chrysler, February 29, 2004, after 27 years of service. He was an avid bowler. At her side were her beloved son Bill and the Daly and the Pirro families. Lois was a 1943 graduate of North Syracuse High School. She was an active volunteer with the USO. Lois is remembered by countless "teens" as the proprietor of The Fountain in Marcellus. She worked at the Four Queens Casino in Las Vegas. Lois was the devoted and loving companion of Roger G. Daly, M.D., who died in 2003. Lois is survived by her son William Clay and his wife Bernice; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren in Plattsburgh, NY. She left behind a brother, David Stanley of Weedsport, NY, his wife Shirley, their three children and families. Lois has a huge extended family and many lifelong friends who will sorely miss her feisty, irrepressible attitude. Drew, formerly of DeWitt, passed away peacefully at Iroquois Nursing home on August 3, 2004. Just shy of her 90th birthday, she lived a full and happy life among family and friends. Mrs. Drew, as Esther Anderson, grew up in the Catskills of New York state and worked briefly for the City Service Oil Co. in New York City before marrying and choosing to be a homemaker. She was a longtime member of St. David's Episcopal Church in DeWitt and enjoyed volunteering her time on the National Cathedral Project in Washington. An avid and excellent bridge player, she also enjoyed crocheting and traveling (especially with her closest friend and son's godmother, Elsie McAuliffe). Her constant love and concern for the welfare of others and her joyous spirit will not soon be forgotten. Esther is predeceased by her husband Walter, who passed away some years ago. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Drew of Syracuse; her beloved grandson, Lt. Brendon Drew, physician U.S. Navy; and several nieces and nephews. He was an associate director of safety services for theAmerican Red Cross in Syracuse. He was a swimming coach and instructor for the Baldwinsville schools. He was a graduate of Newark school of Fine and Industrial Arts and attended Buffalo State. He was the founder of the Erie Co. Ambulance Corps. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. On June 11, 1938, she married Leland J. Hale in Syracuse, NY; he died October 16, 1969. They resided in McConnellsville from 1943 to 2004. Margaret worked for Harden Furniture Factory for 37 years as a seamstress, retiring in 1989. Mr. Tischler was born in Pompey. He was the plant chief of the USAF Aeronautical Chart and Information Center of St. Louis, MO, until retiring in 1970. Sidney was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and remained on reserve through May of 1952. He was a 1936 graduate of Syracuse University. He was predeceased by his son Paul in 1994. Trenca, 81, a resident of 187 East Albany St., Oswego, died September 3, 2004. Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Reitz) Trenca. He was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre, Manila and Australia. He was a machinist for Alcan for over 20 years, retiring in 1986. Pete was a familiar face and a welcoming smile to Oswego Speedway racing fans as a program seller for 52 years, retiring in 2002. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Lorraine Loughrey, whom he married on July 10, 1948; one daughter, Becky O'Kane of Oswego; two sons, Larry Trenca of Oswego and Michael (Maureen) Trenca of Liverpool; one brother, Joseph A. Before retiring, she was a schoolbus driver for the Central Square School District for 10 years. Her husband, Henry Weaver Sr., predeceased her in 1997. Surviving are three daughters: Shirley Evans, Georgia Fountain and Cynthia Clark; five sons: Henry Jr., Rick, William, Charles and Scott Weaver; two sisters; a brother; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
