September 5, 2004 Murray E. Barkley, 89, died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday, September 5, 2004. Born in Elmira, he had lived most of his life in Central New York. He was vice president and a member of the board of directors of Pass & Seymour Inc. for16 years prior to his retirement in 1982. He was also a director of Pass & Seymour Canada Inc., which he helped to found. A 40-year employee of Pass & Seymour, he started work in that company as a tool designer and held various positions in management until his retirement. He was a trustee of the Central New York Conference of the United Methodist Church and served on its Committee for the Older Native American Outreach Program. He served as trustee for the South Onondaga United Methodist Church and was a past master of the South Onondaga Grange. He had been active in many United Way campaigns and in 1972 had been chairman of its factory division. Mr. Barkley was a 10-gallon-plus blood donor to the American Red Cross. Mr. Barkley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth (Fellows) Barkley; three sons: Murray (Carole) Jr., Norman (Judy) and David (Judy); several nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Calling hours are Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Greenleaf Funeral Home, Syracuse. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at South Onondaga United Methodist Church. Curley, Starr Ann September 2, 2004 Starr Ann Curley, 65, of Los Angeles, CA, and a native of Syracuse, died on Thursday, September 2, 2004. She was a respected massage therapist, talented writer and poet and a former Ice Capader. She is survived by her two daughters, Tara Ruddenand Lyra Couillard; her son, William Curley; and five grandchildren. A lifelong Syracuse resident, Robert retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1994 after 38 years. Having graduated from Valley High School, he attended Syracuse University and served in the U.S. Army as a Chinese linguist. As an avid jazz fan, he enjoyed the local music and served on the board of the Jazz Appreciation Society of Syracuse. Robert is survived by his wife, Susan: two daughters, Michelle (Michael) Bush of Syracuse and Lori (Craig) Hoffman of New York City; four grandchildren: Joshua, Cassandra, Ciara and Matthew; one brother, John (Jack) Fifield of Syracuse; two sisters, Shirley Fifield Smith of Liverpool and Cynthia Fifield of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. His brother Stephen Kent Fifield preceded him in death. Lauderdale, died Saturday. Mrs. Meltzer returned to Syracuse in 2003 after living in Florida. Anna was associated with her late husband David in Meltzers' Bicycle Shop from 1927 until 1963. Anna was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun. She was predeceased by her husband in 1973 and by her daughter Dorothy Lowitz in 2001. Survived by her sons, Charles and Sanford; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Post, 83, of Hamilton Road, Jordan, died Friday at his summer home on the Independence River in Glenfield, NY. Born in Lyons Falls, NY, he graduated from Lyons Falls High School in 1937. Mr. Post graduated from Oswego StateUniversity, where he also earned a master's degree. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II. He retired in 1969 from Jordan-Elbridge High School, where he was an industrial arts teacher for 35 years. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Hazel VanHorn; two daughters, Suzanne (Patrick) Flynn of Black River, NY, and Marcese (Mark) O'Grady of Onondaga Hill; a son, James (Suzanne) Post of Saratoga, NY; six grandchildren.
