Irving Street, East Syracuse, died suddenly Friday. A native of Syracuse, he graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School and magna cum laude from Onondaga Community College. He was a mediaconsultant and owner of Allen Media Services. An accomplished musician, he performed over 30 years in the Central New York area as a vocalist and lead guitarist, with bands including Vinnie and the Shooters and Double Down. He was an avid and passionate fisherman. His brother Kevin Allen died in 2003. Survivors: his wife of 22 years, the former Sharon Zinkiewicz; a daughter, Cassandra E. Allen of East Syracuse; a son, Gregory Nicholas Allen of East Syracuse; two brothers, John Allen of Darien, CT and Dennis Allen of Clifton Park; several nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Raymour, MO, and was a longtime resident of North Syracuse. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II andthe Korean War. He was a member of the Brewerton Christian Church. His family was all important to him. Surviving are his wife Marge of North Syracuse; his mother Ruth of North Syracuse; four children: Jo Barclay-Beard of Silver Spring, MD; William of Washington, DC; Jack of Ft. Born in Syracuse he was a life resident of Syracuse and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. His father, Howard Sr., died in1985, and his brother Martin died in 2003. September 10, 2004 Alenson R. Conklin Jr. of Liverpool died Friday, September 10, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided and attended schools in NY, NJ and PA before moving to Liverpool in the 1930s. He served in the Pacific during WWII as a Marine and later joined the Naval Reserves. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 317 and retired from Acme Markets in 1977. During his retirement, he was active with the Syracuse Senior Cyclones softball team. He loved traveling, camping, snowshoeing and mountain climbing. He was a member of the Liverpool First United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Gettman Conklin, in 2003. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Carter of N. Syracuse and Susan C. Anthony was a member of the Solvay Tigers A.C., the Tyrol Club of Solvay, member and past president of the Hilltop Club, founder and past president of the former 23 Club and a lifelong communicant of St. Cecilia's Church. He was predeceased by his wife Emily in 2001 and a brother, James M., in 1944. Hines, Dorothy Foster September 9, 2004 Dorothy Foster Hines, 94, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Lyons, NY, on April 11, 1910, Dorothy was a near-lifelong resident of the Syracuse area and retired from the College of Home Economics at Syracuse University in 1975 after a long and distinguished career. She was widowed by Robert G. Foster in 1969 and subsequently by Ralph M. Hines in 1999. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son Robert G. Foster Jr. and his wife Anita of Princeton, NJ; her daughter Karen McNall of Laguna Hills, CA; her stepdaughter Susan Ballard and husband Robert of Syracuse; and her stepdaughter Karolyn Hagadorn of Randolph, NJ. She also leaves loving grandchildren, Linda Jiles of Syracuse, Nancy Miller of Kendall Park, NJ, and Dustin Deminna of Laguna Hills, CA, as well as five great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren. Holdridge, Esther Louise September 9, 2004 Esther Louise Holdridge, of Marcellus, NY, died at her home September 9, 2004, following a struggle with cancer. She was born in Oxford, NY, on May 27, 1940, the daughter of Grace and Stuart Holdridge, who predeceased her. She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine Murdock of Seneca Falls, NY, and Barbara and Eugene A.Gilliand of Vestal, NY; a nephew, Thomas S. Murdock, Seneca Falls; and four nieces: Theresa Hartman of Richardson, Texas; Jacqueline Webster of Seneca Falls, NY; Ronda Murdock of Jersey City, New Jersey; and Rebecca Booth of Baltimore, MD; an aunt, Roselyn King of Richfield Springs, NY; and several cousins. Her special cats, Lovey and Pushdin, will also miss her. Esther was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School and received a BS degree from Syracuse University, where she majored in political science. She taught social studies for three years in Wallingford, CT. She later lived in Marcellus, NY, where she taught at Lafayette Central School for many years. She loved nature and lived very close to birds and woodland animals. She was a prolific reader and loved learning. A memorial service for Esther will be held at the Behe Funeral Home in Oxford, NY, on Saturday, September 18, 2004, at 1 p.m., with calling hour an hour before the service. The Rev. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Camillus Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, James E. Born in Binghamton NY, he lived in Binghamton and Syracuse until moving to DeWitt in 1950. Ron was a communicant of Holy Cross Church and a graduate of St. Lawrence Uni-versity. He worked for Allstate Insurance until he retired in 1973. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen who died in 1998. He is survived by a nephew, Carlton Watson, and a niece, Sue Watson, both of Florida; several great-nephews; two sisters-in-law, Bette Watson of Florida and Jane Wheeler of DeWitt. Due to the hurricanes in Florida and the family being from Florida, services will be announced in the paper from Burns-Garfield F.H. when conditions improve. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
