Born and educated in Syracuse, she worked as a cook in the Sacred Heart Rectory for many years. She also volun-teered in the cafeteria of Sacred Heart School until she was hired as a full time baker. She helped her mother in the catering business, catering weddings and banquets. Jane was a very active worker on the Sacred Heart Festival and also worked as an election poll worker. She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus where she was a member of the Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart Mothers and the Sacred Heart Seniors. Survivors: a daughter, Terry (Gerard) Verrillo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a son, John (Helen) Kowalewski of Mt. McNeil, Bradley Stuart September 9, 2004 Born October 9, 1975, in Syracuse, New York, Bradley died September 9, 2004, at the age of 28 years, following a motorcycle accident in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Bradley lived part of each year in Spain, and lived in Puigpunyent, Ma-llorca, Spain for the past six years. Bradley was a graduate of Manlius Pebble Hill School and attended the University of Rochester and Syracuse University. Mary was born in Geddes, NY, on February 18, 1929, the daughter of Byron and Bertha Clement Darrow. She was a resident of Syracuse for the past 25 years, coming from Victory. Owens, Georgiana Borst "Jana" Owens September 9, 2004 Georgiana "Jana" Borst Owens died on Thursday, September 9, 2004, in Middletown, Connecticut, at the age of 83. She was born in that same city on July 12, 1921. Mrs. Owens had been living with her loving daughter Sarah Owens-Ash and her husband Mel Ash in Centerbrook, Connecticut, having returned to the seashore she loved in April of this year. Jana graduated from Syracuse University in 1942, where she met and married Joseph F. Owens Jr. She was, with her late husband, a resident of Cazenovia, New York, for nearly 60 years. They were presented with a Civic Appreciation Award in 1997 for their many contributions to the community of Cazenovia, New York. Jana was an award-winning poet. She was a longstanding member of the Pen Women's Club of Central New York. Her love of the written word led to freelancing for the Cazenovia Republican, first contributing essays about her life, and later, as the columnist for "Years Ago". She is survived by her five children, Joseph F. Owens III, Philip W. Owens, Cory Hunter, Daniel Owens, and Sarah Owens-Ash. Mrs. Owens is also survived by her seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister, Mrs. Mary Jean Haagens of Framingham, Massachusetts. "Shipwreck" Shippey, 44, of 1850 Warners Road, Warners, died Monday at home following a long battle with cancer. Born in Syracuse, John was a life resident of the area. He was a 1979 graduate of Jordan-Elbridge High School. John served with the U.S. Marines from 1980 to 1984. He was the owner of Shippey Auto Repair. John had a love of auto racing and was involved in many areas of the sport such as working as a technical inspector for the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways. He worked on the track safety crew and did track equipment maintenance. He also enjoyed Harleys, Mustangs and snowmobiles. Surviving are his parents, Robert and Esther Shippey of Warners; four sisters, Rhonda (Fred) Mezzo of Liverpool, Denise Boyle of Memphis, Sharon (Carl) Spencer of Moravia, and Kelly Shippey of Memphis; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and was pursuing a Master's in Business Ad-ministration from Columbia College. She was a longtime employee of the United States Postal Service. Her mother, Marjorie K. Bowen, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Kerry M. McElroy and Melanie N. Simon of Cicero; her father, James J. Bowen of Fort Myers, Florida; her sisters, Theresa M. Bowen of Mattydale and Jennifer L. Bowen of West Palm Beach, Florida; her brother, James M. Taft, Patricia Gwynn September 13, 2004 Patricia Gwynn Taft, 68, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 13, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Pattie was born in Syracuse, NY, on December 21, 1935. She spent every summer in Fair Haven, NY, where she has lived the past several years. Prior to moving to Fair Haven, she spent nearly 30 years living in Canandaigua, NY. Pattie attended Syracuse Public Schools, attended Mary Baldwin College, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1958. At Syracuse University she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. After enjoying a career as a special education teacher at Gorham Elementary School, she retired in 1998. While in Canandaigua, Pattie was an active parishioner at Saint John's Episcopal Church and a member of breast cancer support groups in Geneva and Rochester. She also was a dedicated volunteer for Ontario County Visiting Nurses. Through her diverse interests and activities, Pattie touched and affected many people's lives. Pattie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Agassi "Gus" of Fair Haven; son Peter (wife Andrea) Taft of Canandaigua, NY; daughter Mariam (husband Michael) MacGregor of Morrison, CO; and daughter Rebecca (husband Marc Geer) Taft of Albany, NY. Grandchildren Gratia and Carter Taft, and Hayes and Colten MacGregor also survive her, as do many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She leaves her sister Eleanor Merrifield and brother David Gwynn. Pattie was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Charles and Alice (Foote) Gwynn. The family is profoundly grateful to her team of doctors and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital and the angels from Hospice of the Finger Lakes. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, at Fair Haven Community Church, 14467 Richmond Ave. There will be no calling hours.
