September 12, 2004 Laurie J. Barker, 54, of Syracuse, died Sunday at Francis House after a long illness. Born March 20, 1950, she was a native of Painted Post. She graduated from West High School in 1968 and from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse in 1970 and went on to become a general partner in Benefit Systems, a pension consulting and administration firm. She was an entrepreneurial pioneer who sponsored and funded a variety of successful businesses in Central New York. Laurie founded L.J. Barker Co. of Syracuse, a pension administration business, most recently located in Hanover Square, and operated it for 25 years. Until recently she lived in the Syracuse University neighborhood. Her father, Harold Barker, predeceased her in 1981. She is survived by her daughter Cassandra Barker, now attending college in Rochester, who will always remember her mother as a loving, gentle and wise guiding force in her life. Also surviving is Laurie's mother, Jan Barker and sister Cindy Barker, both of Painted Post; a brother Tim Barker of Tucson, AZ; a niece, Samantha Nichols and a nephew Jason Nichols and many friends. Caputo, 92, formerly of Syracuse, passed away Monday in Palm Harbor, Florida. Born in Mola DiBari, Italy, he lived in Syracuse for 54 years and then moved to Florida in 1984. Clements, international business executive, 92, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at The Clough Center in New London. He and his late wife Pearle, who died in 1990, moved to New London, NH, from Geneva, Switzerland, upon his retirement as a vice president of Caterpillar Inc. with administrative responsibility for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Since 1981, summers were spent in NH and winters in Naples, FL. Born in Watertown, NY, he graduated from Syracuse University with an engineering degree and immediately joined Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, IL, with whom he spent his entire career, including 22 years overseas service in corporate affairs. During this period he was active in community and local business matters, including serving as industry member of the Fulbright Scholarship Australian Selection Committee and president of the American Club in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1981 Syracuse University honored him with The Arents Award for distinguished accomplishment and pioneering efforts in international business. Some years later he also received the Chancellor Eggers Award. In New London, NH, Mr. Clements was an associate member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Lake Sunapee Country Club. In FL, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Poinciana Golf Club, Forum Club and the Naples Council of World Affairs. He is survived by his devoted companion, Jean Williamson of New London, NH, and Naples, FL; and several nieces and nephews. September 14, 2004 John C. Goly, 87, of Lynn Dr., North Syracuse, died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of Millers Falls, MA, Mr. Goly resided in North Syracuse since 1951. He was a WWII Army veteran and served with the 4th armored division in the European the-ater and received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained during the Battle of the Bulge. John retired in 1982 as the President of Goly's Motors and operated a Mobil service station on the corner of Wolf St. and Grant Blvd. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, a member of its Socialites senior group and a past member of its Men's society. He was a past commander of the Purple Heart Association, Chapter 407, a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 30 both in Syracuse, the American Legion post # 1832 in Mattydale, the Knights of Columbus # 4717 in North Syracuse and the Mattydale Hinsdale Senior Citizens. She was a life resident of Solvay and 1924 graduate of Solvay High School. Rita worked in the traffic dept. at Solvay Process, later was co-owner of Solvay Oil Service and Solvay Home Appliance, and then was a bookkeeper at Fairmount Bowling Center for 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church, life member and two-time past president of its Altar & Rosary Society, a member of its Food Pantry and Bereavement Committee. She was also a member of the Solvay Tigers Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Communty General Hospital for 25 years. Rita was predeceased by her husband Thomas "Tim" in 1970. Survivors: two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Rita A. Picciott Jr. of Solvay, and Robert and Joanne Picciott of Split Rock; three sisters, Mary Negrola of Unionville, CT, Ennis Patolino of Solvay, and Rose Calligaris of Camillus; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Peteris Reichmanis. Mrs. Reichmanis was the head accountant for Guardian Claims Service, Inc. in Syracuse, where she worked for 12 years before retiring in 1982. She obtained a business degree with a major in accounting in Latvia. Mrs. Reichmanis was born in Liepaja, Latvia, in 1920, the daughter of Sergei Meiers and Adeline N. Koskins. She and her husband lived in Melbourne, Australia, for 14 years before immigrating to the United States in 1962 with their two children. For the last 20 years she lived with her daughter Elsa and family in Westfield, NJ. Surviving are her daughters, Maria and Elsa; sons-in-law, Robert A. Malstrom and Francis J. Purcell; her grandchildren, Patrick, Elizabeth, Edward, and Thomas Purcell; her sister Irene M. Nyklicek of Kent, CT; and numerous nephews and nieces. A service for Nina Reichmanis will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greenleaf Funeral Home Inc. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 503 W.
