Burton, 96, of Fulton, died Wednesday at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton. A native of Volney, Mrs. Burton was a life-resident of the Fulton-New Haven area. She retired in 1969 from D-K Manufacturing as an office clerk after nine years. She had also worked at Birdseye Division of General Foods, Fulton. She had owned and operated Joice's Home Bakery in Volney, where she supplied baked goods for several local grocery stores for many years. She had also worked at Hunter Fan Company, Nestle Company and Chatallon Knife Works, all in Fulton. Mrs. Burton was a member of State Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Dempster Grove Camp Association and Secretary of the Women's Improvement Society. She was the widow of Winfield F. Joice, who died in 1971 and Harold A. Burton, who died in 1974. She was predeceased by a son, Richard L. Joice who died in 1981 and a daughter, Leola L. Keller, who died in 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Trepasso of Fulton; a son, William B. Heizman, Father Leo September 21, 2004 Father Leo Heizman, 61, of Syracuse, died Tuesday. Born May 30, 1943 to Bernard and Rose Heizman, he was a graduate of Onondaga Central High School. He entered the Christ the King Seminary in Olean, NY and was ordained on May 17, 1969. Hisfirst assignment was at St. Lucy's in Syracuse, where he was principal, and then he went on to Immaculate Conception in Fayetteville. Father Heizman was a faculty member of and eventually became principal of Bishop Grimes High School in East Syracuse and also Bishop Cunningham High School in Oswego, NY. He was Pastor of St. Mary's in Mexico and was also stationed at St. Matthew's in East Syracuse and later a Chaplin at Crouse Hospital. He also was Chaplin to the Dewitt Police Department. Father Heizman was the type of priest that reached out to all, no matter what age group. He was a very giving individual. Survivors: His brother, Deacon Bernard Heizman; five sisters, Sister Nadine Heizman OSF, Catherine (Timothy) Fahey, Bernadette (Keith) Mayotte, Jean Marie Heizman, Therese (Curt) Brown; his Foster Son, John Ott and Several nieces and nephews. McGrath, 91, of 1301 Nottingham Road, Jamesville, NY, and formerly of North Lawrence, NY, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at the Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Born in Salem, NY, June 29, 1913, he was the son of the late Michael and Nancy Collins McGrath. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1936, and received a master's degree in Educational Administration from St. Lawrence University. Mr. McGrath was a lifelong educator. He began his life as an educator as a teacher of business subjects and as coach for the Brushton Schools. He later taught business subjects and coached track for the Tupper Lake Schools, before becoming Principal at North Lawrence High School in 1946. In North Lawrence, Mr. McGrath worked diligently along side Wesley Ehle and Robert Heister to bring about the centralization of the St. Lawrence Central Schools. As Supervising Principal, he worked to pass numerous bond issues to enable the School District to build the new St. Lawrence Central School Building in Brasher Falls, NY. He was involved in the early development of the St. Lawrence County B.O.C.E.S. Mr. McGrath retired in 1975, at which time the St. Lawrence Central High School Auditorium was named in his honor. After his retirement, Mr. McGrath was inducted into the St. Lawrence Central School Hall of Fame. Mr. McGrath was a civic leader and was involved in bringing a Volunteer Fire Department to North Lawrence. For many years, he served on the board of Key Bank in Winthrop. On August 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Pauline Burke in North Lawrence. She, too, was a lifelong educator, having been a Second Grade Teacher for the North Lawrence Schools and Brushton-Moira Central Schools. She predeceased him in 1980. Survivors include a dear friend, Veronica Dievendorf of Governeur, NY; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Patricia Byrne McGrath of Syracuse, and Jack and Kathleen Shetz McGrath of Wayne, PA; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann McGrath Beebe and her husband, Robert Beebe or Poland, OH; and his grandchildren, Henry and Sheila McGrath, Zachery, Kerri McGrath, Mary, Annemarie and Tim McGrath, Stephen and Stephanie Beebe and Danny and Nancy Beebe Dunlavy. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Westley Zachery, Anna Kate Joyce, Maisy, and Beckett Dunlavy. Morris, 81, of Clay, NY, passed away September 20, 2004. He was born April 7, 1923, in Cortland, the son of the late Stanley D. and Dorothy Dair Morris. Stanley graduated from the Cortland High School, Class of 1942. After high school, Stanley served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theatre. After his service to his country, he then went on to Cornell University, and graduated in 1951 from the School of Labor Relations. In his spare time he was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. A native of Syracuse, New York, he had lived in Boynton Beach, Florida for the past few years until moving to Houston recently. A graduate of Syracuse University and its law school, he was a long-time member of the university's board of trustees. For more than 40 years, he was a Cadillac and Oldsmobile dealer in Syracuse, named as a Regional Quality Dealer by Time Magazine and the National Automobile Dealers Association. He also served on the board of directors of the Key Bank of Central New York. In 1974, he was named by Syracuse University as a Letterman of Distinction, and he also served as a past president of the Syracuse University Varsity Club of Letter Winners. Preceded in death by his parents, Solomon Spector and Ida Spector and brothers, William and Myers, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine Benderoff Spector. He is also survived by his son, Andrew Spector and wife Helen; daughter, Suzanne Josef and husband, Peter; granddaughter, Elyse Spector Kalmans and husband, Lewis; grandson, Matthew Spector and wife, Shelley; grandson, Adam Josef and wife, Ellyn; and five great-grandchildren, Aerin, Kendall and Talia Kalmans, Ryan Josef and Lindsey Spector, all of Houston. A memorial service will be held at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church on Sunday, October 3, at 12:30 p.m. The service of burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery. Stapleton Thorpe, 98, of Solvay, passed away Wednesday at Loretto. Born in Syracuse she was a graduate of Solvay High School. As a young woman she was employed as secretary to Judge Bowers at Solvay Bank. She was later em-ployed at the Monroe Abstract and Title Corporation. In her later years she was secretary at Solvay High School and retired in 1970 after 25 years. She was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church. She was the widow of John E. Thorpe who was a prominent businessman in the Syracuse area and owner of the Camillus Hotel. Survivors: three children, Maryanne Schaad, Margaret Constantino, and John Thorpe; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tindall Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus. Calling hours 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Cecilia's Food Pantry, 1001 Woods Rd. Solvay, NY 13209.
