He was a member of Morning Star Lodge #524 F&A.M. and Chapter #289 O.E.S. He was a member of the Syracuse Musician Union, was an avid musician and won the 1930 Central New York Banjo Competition. He was predeceased by his second wife, Emily D., in 1996 and granddaughter, Darlene Rice. Survivors: son, Wendell of Syracuse; daughter, Berniece Davia of Auburn; four grandchildren. Rosemary relocated to Niceville in August 2000 to be closer to her daughter and family. April 2, 2005 Marion S. Callan, 93, Seneca Ave., Canastota, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2005, in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. Born in Rose on January 5, 1912, she was the daughter of Willard and Ada Wager Sutter. A resi-dent of Canastota for the past 68 years, Mrs. Callan was a graduate of North Rose High School. She met Clarence Callan in Wolcott, and they married in Solvay on June 28, 1933. Mr. Callan died on February 29, 1988. For many years, Mrs. Callan served as the business manager of Callan and Clark LP Gas and Appliance Corporation in Canastota, which was founded in 1945 and was sold to Tex Gas Corporation, a division of Allied Chemical Corporation, in 1972. She later served as the business manager for Canastota Distributors, wholesalers and distributors for the Genesee Brewery, which Mr. Callan bought in 1972. The business was later sold in 1974, due to Mr. Callan's ill health. Mrs. Callan was later employed with the Madison County Supreme Court. She was a member of United Church of Canastota. Blessed with good health, Mrs. Callan enjoyed life and exhibited a zest for living, which continued until the day she passed. She was predeceased by a brother, Glen Sutter, and two sisters, Norma Lyboldt and Thelma Snider. Surviving are two nieces and their husbands, Donna and William Torpey of Irondequoit and Carol and William Coons of Greece; two nephews and their wives, Richard C. and Dorothy Young of St. Cloud, FL, and James and Betty Lyboldt of Bernhards Bay; a sister-in-law, Eva Sutter of Rose; and several grandnieces and -nephews. She was the wife of Clifford Higham, who died in 1979. She was born in Wigan, England, the daughter of the late James and Dinah (Harper) Higham and moved to this country many years ago. She lived in Syracuse, NY, for many years and spent the past few years in Hudson with her son and daughter-in-law. She was employed for many years as a saleswoman, selling ladies' shoes for the former Dey Bros. Department Store, which is now Macy's, in Syracuse, NY. She is survived by one son, Eric Higham, and his wife Johanna of Hudson; three sisters: Ruth Brinkman, Betty Thomas and Sheila Mayor, all of England; one grandchild, Jessica Higham of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. Born on Onondaga Hill, he lived in Fairmount for over 50 years. A Navy veteran of WWII, he served on the USS Memphis. In 1977 he retired from Netherland Dairy, Crowley Foods, and in 1987 from Community General Hospital as supervisor of environmental services. Del was a communicant of Holy Family Church. She was the wife of William O. Kohnke. Mrs. Kohnke was born in Elmira, NY, and was raised in Syracuse. She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Auld) Macfarlane. Catherine lived in Rockville Centre, NY, from 1956, the time of her marriage, until the family relocated to Cheshire in 1969. For many years she played bassoon with numerous ensembles, including the Middletown Symphonic Band, the Branford Town Band, the Subway Symphony and the VA Medical Musical Group. She was also a longtime member of the Early Bird Bowling League. Mrs. Kohnke enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Cheshire Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Andrew W. Kohnke, and his wife Leslie of West Hartford; a sister, Margaret McVicker of Syracuse; and two grandchildren, James and Dora Kohnke of West Hartford. She was born in Monopoli, Bari, Italy on November 28, 1905, and came to Syracuse in 1956. For the last 26years she has lived in Manlius with her daughter. Mrs. Medico was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. She was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband Cosmo died in 1977, and her grandson Cosmo Medico died in 2000.
