Callan, 93, Seneca Ave., Canastota, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2005, in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. Born in Rose on January 5, 1912, she was the daughter of Willard and Ada Wager Sutter. A resi-dent of Canastota for the past 68 years, Mrs. Callan was a graduate of North Rose High School. She met Clarence Callan in Wolcott, and they married in Solvay on June 28, 1933. Mr. Callan died on February 29, 1988. For many years, Mrs. Callan served as the business manager of Callan and Clark LP Gas and Appliance Corporation in Canastota, which was founded in 1945 and was sold to Tex Gas Corporation, a division of Allied Chemical Corporation, in 1972. She later served as the business manager for Canastota Distributors, wholesalers and distributors for the Genesee Brewery, which Mr. Callan bought in 1972. The business was later sold in 1974, due to Mr. Callan's ill health. Mrs. Callan was later employed with the Madison County Supreme Court. She was a member of United Church of Canastota. Blessed with good health, Mrs. Callan enjoyed life and exhibited a zest for living, which continued until the day she passed. She was predeceased by a brother, Glen Sutter, and two sisters, Norma Lyboldt and Thelma Snider. Surviving are two nieces and their husbands, Donna and William Torpey of Irondequoit and Carol and William Coons of Greece; two nephews and their wives, Richard C. and Dorothy Young of St. Cloud, FL, and James and Betty Lyboldt of Bernhards Bay; a sister-in-law, Eva Sutter of Rose; and several grandnieces and -nephews. Garcy was born May 13, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, where she met and married the man she loved, Gerald Garcy of Buffalo, New York. Being of adventurous spirit, she accompanied her husband to Buffalo, built a home in Orchard Park, and later settled in Liverpool, where she raised and educated her children, Neil and Bruce. Always one to try new things, she camped, skied and traveled with her husband and children. When her husband learned to fly, as in life, she was his co-pilot supporting and helping him navigate new skies and new adventures. She loved long walks, cooking, a good read, and boating on the St. Lawrence River. She was returning from Florida when she passed away. Christine is now joined with her loving husband of 45 years who passed in 1996. She deeply loved and took great pride in her two sons, Neil and Bruce, who survive her; their wives, Connie and Gina; and her grandchildren, Benjamin and Gabriella. Her passing will sadden all who knew her including her sister Betty Kolfage, brother-in-law Roger Kolfage, brothers Ted and Gerald Fischer, her aunt Doris Rogers, as well as nieces and nephews. Linda was a biochemist with SUNY Upstate Medical University for many years and she retired in 1993. She was in the Syracuse Chorale and the choir at St. Peter's Church in Cazenovia. She was a long-term Dispatcher at CAVAC and a volunteer worker at The Key. Linda and her good friend, Carol Strong, raised dogs and successfully showed them in the U.S. and internationally. Linda is survived by her close friend, Carol A. Strong; a brother, J. Rush (Ann) Marshall; a nephew, Alfred L. (Elaine) Marshall; a niece, Linda M. Orshaw, Wilma April 1, 2005 Wilma Orshaw, 66, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2005 at Good Shepherd Fairview Nursing Home in Binghamton. She will always be remembered for her love of life and vivacious personality. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Frances Orshaw, her husbands, William Blackwell and Robert Allen Orshaw, and her son, Martin Shaffer. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lois Shaffer, Friendsville, PA, and her step-family, Jeff and Rita Blackwell, Corning, NY, Charles Blackwell, Corning, NY and Barbara Blackwell, Bath, NY; her grandchildren, Andrew Shaffer, Valerie Shaffer, both of Lincoln, ME, Aubrey Blackwell, Jeremy Blackwell, both of Corning, NY; and a brother and sister-in-law, Verne and Betty Orshaw, Milan, PA. She worked for many years at Ritter's Cleaners, North Syracuse, NY and worked as a private seamstress, both in the Syracuse and Painted Post areas. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful people of the Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care in Corning, to Lourdes Hospice in Binghamton, and to the staff of Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their love and compassion to Wilma and her family. Thanks also to all her friends who sent their love and prayers to Wilma, it meant so much to know she had such dear people throughout her life. Owen, 94, formerly of Augustus St., Auburn, New York, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Mr. Owen was born on December 2, 1910, in Auburn, to the late Henry and Maud Merritt Owen, and has been a lifetime resident of Auburn. He was the former president of the Charles H. Sagar Co., Inc./Rexall Drug Store in Auburn, and he was a member of Saint Luke's United Church of Christ for over 50 years where he served as a financial officer. He was also a former member of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. Surviving him is one daughter, Marilyn S. Stregiel and her husband Norman of Skaneateles, NY; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Owen Stregiel and his wife Heidi of Syracuse, NY, Kristine R. Strodel and her husband James of Davidson, NC, Todd A. Stregiel of Philadelphia, PA; three great-grandchildren, Carter Owen Stregiel, Merritt Sophia Strodel and Mayella DuBois Strodel. Mr. Owen was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Guse Owen who died in 1973, and two brothers, Arthur B. Owen and G. Merritt Owen, and one sister, Marion Owen Gannon. A native of Scriba, she had resided there most of her life before moving to Fulton in 1978. Mrs. Pullen retired in 1983 from Sealright Company in Fulton where she had worked from 1942-1983. Ratcliff, Mary Lou March 27, 2005 Mary Lou Ratcliff, 79 year old resident of Rogers, Arkansas, died March 27, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home in Rogers, Arkansas. Born November 5, 1925, in Cleveland, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Charlie Faye Henson and Sallie Frazier Henson. She was an executive secretary for Carrier Air Conditioning Company in Syracuse, New York, prior to moving to northwest Arkansas in 1990. She was an antique doll collector and dealer and was a well known authority and lecturer on Rose O'Neill and Kewpie Dolls. Mary Lou was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bentonville, Arkansas. She married Edwin Ratcliff on August 22, 1964. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, February 23, 2004, and one sister, Nellie Henson Pafford. Survivors include two sisters, Jimmie Sue Fish of Richmond, Virginia, and Joyce Mundy Bragg of Richmond, Virginia; one stepson, Rick Ratcliff of Maryland; one stepdaughter, Kathy Patterson of Gentry, Arkansas; and three nieces and one nephew. He was born in Auburn, NY, and was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School and Syracuse University College of Engineering. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Charles was a partner and officer with Darling Ice Cream Co., Inc. He was an ARC Committee member and the NYS ARC Man of the Year. Charles will be a 2005 recipient (posthumously) of Syracuse University's Family Pioneer Award. He was a member and past president of the Italian American Athletic Club. He was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Scro.
