He was a commercial diver and also had a tug boat captain's license. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He was born in Syracuse and was employed as a sprayer with the Marsellus Casket Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1970. He was president of the union at Marsellus Casket for eight years and also past president of the Salina Seniors for seven years. He was predeceased by his wife Elena DeYulia in 2002. He is survived by his niece Rose and her husband Michael Tedesco of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; also several grandnieces and nephews. Ford, Ruth Madeline DuBois (DuBois) Ford April 17, 2005 Ruth Madeline DuBois Ford, 82, passed away Sunday at the Jewish Home of Central New York. A native of Albany, NY, she was a longtime resident of Latham. She was the former wife of Francis (Bud) Ford. Born September 23, 1922 in Tupper Lake, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Lalone and Henry DuBois. She was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. She was a former employee of the State of New York and the City of Albany. She retired from Albany County as a purchasing director. A former president of the Albany Democratic Women's League, she enjoyed political life working many years as an Albany County Committeewoman and worked on the political campaigns of many, including Robert F. Kennedy. She was devoted to helping find humane treatment and cures of those having autism. Her work resulted in the enactment of groundbreaking state legislation. She was a founding member and officer of the NYS Autistic Society and the National Society for Autistic Children. Survivors include her four children, Paula M. Ford of Albany, Carolyn A. May of Syracuse, James F. Ford of Albany, and Cynthia F. Robinov of Pittsburgh, PA; her beloved granddaughter, Jennifer L. May of Albany; her son-in-law, Scott Robinov; Gene Solan and her many adoring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Irene, Germaine, Jean, Pauline; and brothers, Claude and Paul. A family memorial and interment service celebrating her life will be held at a later time. Panasci Jr., Henry A. April 17, 2005 Henry A. Panasci Jr., 76, of Camillus, died Sunday at Community General Hospital. He was born in Rome and was formerly Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Fay's Incorporated, formerly Fay's Drug Company, Inc., a retailchain he co-founded along with his father in 1958. At the time of its merger with a large national retailer in 1996, Fay's had grown to over $1 billion in revenues and operated over 270 retail store locations. He served as secretary and treasurer of Fay's, was elected president in 1966 and assumed his role of chairman in 1976, holding that position until retirement in October of 1996. In October of 1996, he founded Cygnus Management Group, LLC. Mr. Panasci was a director of the Business Council of New York State, Metropolitan Development Association of CNY, Inc., and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, Inc., serving as chairman 1983-1984, vice chairman 1982-1983, treasurer 1981-1982 and honorary director. He was also a director of New York City Opera, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (chairman 1977-79 and 1984-88) and Syracuse 20/20 Development Committee. Mr. Panasci was a trustee of Everson Museum, Syracuse University, LeMoyne College, National Symphony Orchestra and Elmira College. Mr. Panasci received his B.A. in chemistry in 1948 and his B.S. in pharmacy in 1952 from the State University at Buffalo. He was a member of the RHO CHI Pharmaceutical Honor Society. His honors include the National Chain Drug Stores Association's Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997, Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters-LeMoyne College in 1990, The Distinguished Alumni Award presented by the Alumni Association of the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986, Honorary Doctor of Science Degree conferred by Long Island University, Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Services in 1985, Distinguished Citizens Award presented by the Hiawatha Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 1985, Honorary Doctor of Science Degree conferred by Union University, Albany School of Pharmacy in 1984 and Mayor's Achievement Award (city of Syracuse) in 1983. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Faye Kocher; daughter, Beth (Ira) Leventhal of Chappaqua; son, David (Jan) Panasci of Jamesville; sister, Arlene Rainone of Syracuse; and grandsons, Michael, Dan and Jon Leventhal. April 18, 2005 Eleanor Catherine Port Wagner, 92, died peacefully Monday surrounded by family at Birchwood Health Care Center in Liverpool. Born March 2, 1913, in East Syracuse to Franklin and Catherine (Kalin) Port, Eleanor married Frederick Ernest Wagnerin 1938. They lived on Heman Street in East Syracuse, where they raised six children. In 1964, they moved to Rome, NY, where Eleanor assisted her husband, owner of the downtown Mohegan Market. In 1989, they retired to Edgerton Estates in Minoa. After a severe stroke that August, Eleanor was admitted to the Birchwood Center, where she remained until her death due to complications from kidney failure. Eleanor is survived by 14 great-grandchildren; 13 grandchildren; and her six children, Joan Beck of Auburn, NY; Carol Wagner Adams of Corales, NM; Diane Keely of Germantown, MD; Richard Wagner of Cicero, NY; Betty Rickicki of Smyrna, GA; and Linda Wagner of Dobbs Ferry, NY. After retirement, he worked with ITS Security at Hancock Airport. He was a communicantof the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a member of American Legion Tipperary Hill Post 1361. He served his country with pride in the US Army during the Korean War. Survivors: three daughters, Ann Marie Zeno, Kathleen Zeno Haywood and Michele Haywood all of Syracuse; one sister, Elizabeth Thompson (Fred) of Hastings; and five grandchildren. His wife, Eleanor, passed away in 1992; and his son, Robert Jr., passed away in 1999.
