Born in Syracuse, Mrs. Alley was a resident of Bridgeport 23 years, moving to Chittenango in 1969. She was the owner and operator of Alleys Drive-in in Bridgeport for over 20 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (Larry) Sattler of Kirkville and Lanette Button and her companion John Rapp of Chittenango; two sons, James T. (Carol) Alley of San Antonio, Texas, and Gary R. She was a graduate of Fredonia State University and taught high school French and Spanish for many years in New York and Michigan. After moving to San Diego in 1981, she devoted 20 years working with the developmentally disabled at The ARC of San Diego Starlight Center in Chula Vista, California. Karen passed away in her home after a four-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Glenn of Chula Vista; four children, Evelyn (Steve) Seitz of Ithaca, Michigan, Janet (Richard) Ohl of Westminster, California, Christopher (Karee) Beck of Breckenridge, Michigan, and Sandra (Jaramia) Richards of Shepherd, Michigan; six grandchildren, Riley Ohl, Charles, Kathryne, Kayli, and Cavun Beck, and Sarena Richards; her mother, Shirley Risto of North Syracuse, New York; her brother, Ronald (Pamela) Risto of La Mesa, California. "Al" Florczyk, age 91, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at his home. A life resident, he was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church, a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Solvay High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran ofWorld War II where he served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations on the USS Pasadena and was also active in their reunions. Mr. Florczyk was present in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the surrender of the Japanese on September 2, 1945. He retired in 1975 after 25 years of service with the Syracuse Fire Department and continued to be active with the Firefighters' Association. After his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with his family in Syracuse and California. He was a member of the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans, the American Legion Post 1832, Retired NYS Firefighters' Association, and an honorary member of the Local 280 International Firefighters. He was predeceased by a son, Michael A. Florczyk, who died in October 1977. He is survived by his wife, Angela B. (Baranello) Florczyk; two sons, Raymond A. Florczyk of Liverpool and Paul J. She was born March 27, 1915 in Lebanon, PA the daughter of George and Regina Onofrey. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and worked forCIT Finance Corporation in Watertown. She was formally married to Carl B. Leland of Hamilton, NY in 1939 and they resided for over 25 years in northern New York, including Watertown, Massena, Canton and Ogdensburg. Eleanor was instrumental in helping to establish the first Leland's Motor Sales agency in Massena. In Ogdensburg during the 1950's and early 1960's, Eleanor was involved with the St. Mary's Cathedral Auxiliary, the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital City Guild and the Garden Club. She experienced wonderful lifelong friendships through these memberships, golf, bridge and dinner parties. Since residing in Fayetteville for over 40 years, Eleanor was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and was an active member of the Fayetteville Senior Center. She was a former member of the ladies golf league at Green Lakes and continued to enjoy recreation golf, art classes, traveling and bridge. She volunteered and worked with the American Red Cross blood program. She especially loved her annual vacation time in Captiva Island and Sarasota, FL. She also enjoyed spending time on Oneida Lake with family and friends. Eleanor was always a devoted mother and homemaker. Through her strength of person and faith, she enjoyed every day and was a tremendous support and loving help to her children and their families. She was predeceased by a daughter, Connie A. Wheeler, Freda Mae April 1, 2005 Freda Mae Wheeler, 90, of Jackson Street, Weedsport, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Florida on April 1, 2005. Mrs. Wheeler lived most of her life in Weedsport. She was the daughter of Floyd and Rhoda Grant Follett. She was graduated from Weedsport High School, Geneseo and Oswego Universities. She taught in two one-room rural schools before teaching third grade in the Weedsport Central School system for 26 years. She belonged to the Weedsport Library Association, Methodist Church, Historical Society and the Garden Club. After retiring in 1971, she spent winters in Clearwater, Florida. She was predeceased by her son, Wayne in 1947 and her husband, Clair in 1949. A special friend, Jim Stafford died in 1990. She is survived by one son, Dr. Lyn F. Wheeler and his wife, Carol of Lexington, VA; and two grandsons, Kevin of New York City and Mark of Lexington. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Weedsport Methodist Church on May 1 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Wheeler suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the Weedsport Fireman or other charity of your choice.
