Boardman, Marjilee "Lee" April 20, 2005 Marjilee "Lee" Boardman, 66, of Baldwinsville, NY, and Sun City Center, FL, died Wednesday after a courageous battle with cancer. Lee was born in Evansville, IN, on May 29, 1938. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing, Evansville, IN. She moved here with her family in 1974 and retired from nursing at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in 1990. After retiring, she continued to serve the community as a volunteer with Hospice and Francis House. In 2004 she was Hospice volunteer of the year. She was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Liverpool, where she was a lector and lay minister. Lee was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was born in Syracuse and grew up in Caldwell, NJ, and Isle of Wight, England. Dorothy returned to Syracuse to attend Syracuse University,graduating in 1943. She built a career in the engineering field at GE and Crouse Hinds, moving to Carrier Corp. where she retired as a quality control engineer in 1984. She married Edward in 1948, and they were married for 54 years prior to his passing in 2003. They lived in the Syracuse area, spending winters in Florida and summers at their home in Liverpool. Dorothy served her community at many committee levels of the PTA in Central New York, as a past president of the Onondaga County ARC and as a member of the National Women's Hall of Fame. In her later years, she enjoyed genealogy, researching her family history back through the American Revolution to her descent from the Windsors of England. Hurley, 82, of Camillus, died Wednesday at his home in Largo, FL. He graduated from St. John the Baptist High School. Tom was a WWII veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He re-tired in 1980 as a detective sergeant after 35 years of service with the Syracuse Police Department. During his career, Tom received many commendations, including The Hendricks Medal of Honor. He was a member of the Pastime Athletic Club and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, friends in Florida, Popes Grove, and watching the Yankees. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years, Mary Theresa Mahan Hurley, and his brother, William Hurley. She received her B.S. degree in physical education from Bethune-Cookman College in Florida. Allena dedicated her life toteaching children and treated each student as though they were her own. She taught in Japan, Georgia, Texas and Pennsylvania. She taught in the Syracuse School District at Eastwood Junior High and Huntington School for 22 years until her retirement in 1995. She also coached and touched the lives of many girls in basketball, gymnastics and track and never lost her love of the job or the children. Weiss, Morris April 10, 2005 Morris "Chief" Weiss, 89, former resident of Syracuse, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, in Clearwater, Florida. Mr. Weiss owned and operated Rayco Auto Service until 1974. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving with the 101st Airborne,seeing action in Bastogne at the Battle of the Bulge. Morrie, a longtime member of Lafayette Country Club, found great enjoyment playing golf and achieved two holes-in-one in his lifetime. He was a lover of music and known for his grace and rhythm on the dance floor. Morris was a member of Temple Society of Concord. Mr. Weiss was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Anne (Usonis) Weiss, in 2001. He displayed individuality tempered with a loving spirit and will be deeply missed. Born on Onondaga Hill, where he spent most of his life, he spent winters in Cape Coral, FL, and enjoyed summers at his camp on Grippen Lake inOntario, Canada. William was a Navy veteran of WWII. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Lutzy Heating and later was the owner of Bill Wilson Plumbing & Heating and retired from General Electric Co. in 1985.
