Baublitz, Charles Cleveland April 23, 2005 Charles Cleveland Baublitz, age 79, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Liverpool, NY, died April 23, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, and five children. Brewer Sr., 89, of Syracuse, died of cancer Saturday at Francis House. He was born November 5, 1915, in Syracuse, the son of Dr. Robert Kemp and Ella Wyman Brewer. He earned his B.S. from Amherst College in 1937 and his M.D. from Syracuse University Upstate Medical Center in 1941. After W.W. II service as a major with the Army Medical Corps, he completed his medical training in ear, nose and throat at the Harvard University Post Graduate Medical School in 1948. He served 37 years in private medical practice in Syracuse as an ear, nose and throat physician until his retirement in 1985. Dr. Brewer also served for many years as Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Active in research involving the mechanics and medical care of the human voice, he helped pioneer medical applications of fiber optics to study the inner workings of the voice box. Dr. Brewer authored many scholarly articles, edited Research Potentials in Voice Physiology (State University of New York, 1964), and served as chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Voice Foundation, New York, NY. He served as president of the Hiawatha Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and started the first medical Explorer Post in the nation. He was a member of Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Dorothy Skerritt of Syracuse; his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Theodore and Ruth Brewer, of Nashua, NH; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Edwin Conta of Jujuy, Argentina; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dr. Brewer was predeceased by a son, Dr. David W. Brewer Jr., who died in 1996. April 25, 2005 Gerald I. Burger, 55, of 2642 Quick Silver Dr., Fleming, died unexpectedly Monday, April 25, 2005 at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Mr. Burger was born in Auburn on May 30, 1949. He was the son of the late John "Otso" Burger and Lorraine Stanford Burger of Auburn. Gerald attended local schools and later served with the US Army during Vietnam. Gerald was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star as a result of his heroic actions during his service in Vietnam. He recently was instrumental in organizing reunions of the 199th Red Catchers, and locally was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 1975. In the past, Mr. Burger had been employed with K-Mart of Auburn for many years as an appliance manager. Gerry was not only very proud of his service to his country but of his service with the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department Co. 1. Gerry was a past President of the organization and former Fire Chief of the Department. Though his health had declined due to injuries sustained during Vietnam; he continued to support the Department during its many activities and functions. Gerry will be sadly missed by his fellow firefighters, veterans, friends and especially his loving family; his wife of 26 years, Cindy Walters Burger of Auburn; his four daughters, Jamey Burger DeWitt and her husband, Lee (Skeeter) Crossley of Auburn, Alicia Burger of Buffalo, Jacqueline and Lindsay Burger both of Auburn; two grandsons, Christopher DeWitt and Conner Crossley. After retirement he was a volunteer for Onondaga County Parks where he was named volunteer of the year in 1994. During the Christmas season he was a professional Santa Claus for many charitable and civic organizations including the Syracuse Police Benevolent Assoc. for 20 years. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of Valley Mens Club, Valley Little League, Valley American Legion Post 1468, Liverpool American Legion Post 188 and Syracuse Turners. Mahaffy, age 71, of 3347 Maple Avenue, Pulaski, died Sunday at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown. He was born on August 18, 1933, in Pulaski, the son of Yates and Della Babcock Mahaffy. He was a life resident of Pulaski, graduating from Pulaski Academy High School in 1951. He was also a graduate of Morrisville Agricultural & Technical College. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in Oswego at the steam station as an instrumental technician, retiring in 1991. He was also employed by Bristol Labs in Syracuse for several years. He was a member of the Park United Methodist Church, Pulaski. He was a member of IBEW Union in Oswego. A previous marriage to Sandra Richardson ended in divorce. Surviving are one daughter, Mary E. Beth Shelmidine and husband Mark of Lorraine; one son, Scott M. and wife Sandra of Sieverville, TN; one brother, Paul of Pulaski; one sister, Barbara Wilder of SanLuis Obispo, CA; one grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Yates Jr. and William Mahaffy. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilyn Stevens and Rev.
