August 7, 2005 Harold R. Anson, 81, formerly of Mattydale, died Sunday in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. Born in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Walter and Adelaide (Murphy) Anson. He was a vice president of Syracuse Heat Treating Company. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, in 1998. Survived by two daughters, Susan D'Agostino of Kirkville and Kathy Chiasson of West Monroe; one son, William Anson of Tully; two sisters, Adelaide Murphy of Leroy, NY, and Betty Winguy of FL; one brother, Jack Anson of Camillus; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Clary, Eleanor Emerson August 5, 2005 Eleanor Emerson Clary, 89, of Jamesville, formerly of Liverpool, passed away Friday. She was born in Bath, NY, and retired as a registered nurse, having spent 10 years with Lynch, Moore & Birnbaum. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clay Seniors, a former member of the New York State Nurses Association, a graduate of Liverpool High School, Onondaga Business School and Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and an alumnus of Syracuse University. Her husband, Donald E. Clary, predeceased her in October 1998. Surviving are two sons, David E. of Bridgeport and Steven C. of Daytona, FL; a daughter, Judith Gelling of Syracuse; a sister, Helen Emerson Holt of Baton Rouge, LA; five granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. A native of Syracuse, he graduated from Nottingham High School and Syracuse University. He retired from the NY State Department of Transportation Real Estate. He was co-owner of DeWitt Sports. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, the German-American Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Adirondack Mountain Club, 46's. He was an avid skier. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Survivors: his wife of 32 years, Christine; a daughter, Erica Frick of Folsom, CA; a son, Christopher Frick of Woodbridge, VA; two sisters, Barbara McElroy and Catherine Kelly; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Martz came to Inverness in 1985 after retiring from the U.S. Post Office as a postal route carrier in Syracuse. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Anna M. A life resident, he was the son of Joseph T. Pirro Jr. and Rose Bucci Pirro. A 1953 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, he was an All City football and baseball player. His love for baseball grew as he played for Notre Dame University and for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1956. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959. After his return home from the service, he played baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies Farm Clubs. Mr. Pirro was a self-employed painting contractor for many years before his retirement. He is survived by Karen (Love) Pirro; his children, Katherine (Fred) and Joseph (Lynne), Michael (Maureen); eight grandchildren: Michael, Laura, Anthony, Matthew, Dominick, Alexandria, Victoria and Joey; two brothers, Donald P. Shannon, Martha Jane Pollard Pollard Shannon August 5, 2005 Martha Jane Pollard Shannon, 79, of North Syracuse, passed away on Friday. She was born in Southampton, Long Island, NY. Martha graduated from SUNY Potsdam and worked as an elementary school band teacher in the FM district. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and did extensive volunteer work with them. She was the senior choir director, head of the Altar Guild, head of the Church LBA and helped out with the annual Christmas Mart. Her favorite thing to do was to go to her camp on Brantingham Lake and stay there for the whole summer. Martha is survived by a daughter, Linda Sue Shannon; a son, Michael George Shannon; five grandchildren: John Michael Shannon, J.T. Waters, Ricky Waters, Timothy John Betar and Rebekah Anne Betar. Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Hobart College and was a Sigma Chi brother. He was a stockbroker with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Syracuse for 16 years. Most recently, he worked as a commercial real estate broker for Hemisphere Holdings. Mr. Taylor enjoyed sailing, skiing, mountain biking, tennis and racquetball. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived in North Syracuse since 1948. He served during World War II in the Army. He was a member of the Syracuse Rose Society and past president of the Iris Society.
