Born in Shoreham, VT, Dorothy moved to Elbridge in 1956 and later to Auburn before moving to Jordan. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, Auburn. Dorothy was the widow of John L. Betts Jr. who died in 1973. She was also predeceased by daughters Marie Tanner in 1990, Joan White in 2004, and son-in-law Frank Tanner in 2003. Surviving are two sons, James (Nancy) Betts of AZ and George (Melanie) Betts of Jordan; three daughters, Barbara (Ray) DeRyke of Fla., Martha (Wayne) Williams of Fla., and Virginia (Frank) Millis of Brewerton; son-in-law, James White of Texas; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren. He was a railway conductor with CSX for 43 years and amember of the United Transportation Union. Mr. Brownell enjoyed cards especially Texas Hold'em. Joyce was the director of nursing for Hutchings Psychiatric Center in Syracuse, retiring in the year of 1992. She worked part time for the Syracuse district of the American Red Cross and was in charge of its mobile units. She was a member of New York State Nursing Association. Marian grew up in Syracuse and later moved to Alexandria, Va. She was a member of the Women's Army Corps during WW II, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Army, she went on to work on the staffs of New York Republicans Senator Irving Ives and Representative Hamilton Fish, and became Chief of Staff at the Washington Office of NYC Mayor John Lindsay. Marian was predeceased by her sister Helen Rittell and grandniece Jennifer Rittell. Marian is survived by her beloved friend Madeline McCarty; nephew John (Joanne) Rittell of Camillus; nieces, Gail Ahern of Syracuse and Lynn (Peter) VanDerveen of Central Square; many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. Coleman, Lucia "LuAnn" August 12, 2005 Lucia "LuAnn" Coleman, 52, of Syracuse, passed away Friday at her home. A native of Geneva, NY, she resided in Syracuse most of her life. LuAnn worked for the Syracuse city schools since 1985 in the food service unit. She was president of the Syracuse Teachers Association, Unit 7, from 1994 to the present. She was a member of Unit 7 negotiating team for many years and a director on the Syracuse Teachers Association Executive Board since 1999. LuAnn was also a building representative at Henninger High School, where she worked as a cook. LuAnn was a NYSUT AFT delegate and was presented in 2000 with the NYSUT school-related professional award. She received the award in New York City with her fellow delegates at the NYSUT convention. STA presented LuAnn with an STA Lifetime Achievement Award this past May in recognition and celebration of her dedication, commitment, tenacity, compassion and honesty. LuAnn has said her most memorable accomplishment in her union career was negotiating paid holidays for food service workers for the first time in STA history. This was accomplished during 2000 contract negotiations due to her perseverance and determination. She touched many students as well as fellow union brothers and sisters. Kelly, Dr. Dorothy Lerch July 19, 2005 Dr. Dorothy Lerch Kelly died at Shell Point Retirement Village in Fort Myers, Florida on July 19, 2005, at 76. She was born in Geneva, NY, attended Syracuse University and did her graduate work there also. A longtime resident of the Syracuse area, she started teaching at Onondaga Community College in 1962. She developed the curriculum for the Human Services Department and founded the Dorothy L. Kelly endowed Human Services Award at OCC. She was active in the women's rights movement and helped establish a chapter of NOW in western, NY. Her passion for education and equal rights led to many accolades and awards. She was also an avid environmentalist. She accomplished a great deal despite suffering from post polio syndrome. On retirement, she and her husband, Robert Kelly, a Syracuse architect, moved to Florida. Dr. Kelly is survived by her brother, Neil Lerch and family; nephew, Alex Wall and family; and sister-in-law, Katherine Kelly VerSnyder. She graduated from Chittenango High School in 1971 and the University of Rochester in 1975. Gloria was the loving daughter of her mother, Marjorie M. Peterson, of Chittenango; the beloved sister of Heide DeMaso, of Cortland, Russell Peterson, of Pipersville, PA, and Alan Peterson, of Chittenango. She was loved by her niece, Kristen (Matthew) Lockhart, grand-niece and nephew, Kaitlyn and Ian Lockhart, all of Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her father, William S. Born October 31, 1910, in Duryea, PA, she was the daughter of the late Martin P. Comer and Anna Kelley Comer. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, WV. She is survived by two sons, Martin A. Roche and wife Karlene of Avon Lake, OH, and Francis J. Roche and wife Marianne of Martinsburg; and seven grandchildren, Michelle Shum, Melissa Roche, John, Michael, Moira, and Mary Kate Roche, and Elizabeth Hansel. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin A. Roche; five brothers, John, Thomas, Gerald, William and Martin Comer; and four sisters, Mary Comer, Marjory Hisock, Irene McCauley and Alice Hucko. Born in Canastota, he was a life resident of Chittenango and a graduate of Chittenango High School, class of 1971. For the past four years he was employed as an endo-gastro technician at St. Joseph's Hospital. He previously was an electrician for over 20 years with MacAdams Electric in Bridgeport. He attended the North Manlius United Church. Tom was predeceased by his wife Susan L. in 2000. Before retiring, she was an Assembler at General Electric Co., Liverpool for 10 years. She was a member of Constantia United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the WSCS. Mary also was a member of the Trach-Auringer VFW Post #7325 Auxiliary in Constantia. She was predeceased by three husbands, Vernon Yerton, Elmer Fredenberg and Joseph Tippie.
