She was a lifelong telephone operator, beginning at Hotel Syracuse. She then worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers during WWII and retired from New York Telephone in 1966. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was predeceased by her daughter Naia in 1944, her husband Frank Allan in 1963, and her sisters, Leona Collins, Ruth Emogine Egan, Madelien Birchler-Tierney and Viola Cahalan. Aungier, Elizabeth "Betty" August 16, 2005 Elizabeth "Betty" Aungier, 90, a resident of the Loretto Home in Syracuse and formerly of 1946 Preble Rd., Preble, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Mrs. Aungier was born December 7, 1914 in Lafayette, the daughter of the late John and Sarah Downey Murphy. She graduated from the Cortland Normal School and taught school for several years in the Lafayette School system. Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Dwight) Folts of Geneseo, NY; Sally (Richard) Kasulke of Geneva, NY; two sons, Robert (Janice) Aungier of Lake Oswego, OR and Patrick (Marlene) Aungier of Houston, TX. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; one great-grandson, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton J. Aungier in 1988; a son, Daniel in 1985; and two sisters, Eileen Murphy and Mary Frances Rose. A native of Fulton, Floyd was a life resident. He worked as housing inspector and sealer of weights and measures for the City of Fulton. He was a real estate bro-ker through Lebro's Real Estate and formerly owned and operated Boynton's Hotel, Fulton. Floyd served as chairman and vice-chairman of the Oswego County Legislature and Legislative Representative for Fulton. He was a member of the Fulton City Republican Committee and was the recipient of the Distinguished Citizenship Award in 1999 by the Fulton Republican Party. He was also a member of the Fulton School District Board of Education; Oswego County B.O.C.E.S. Board of Education, where he was past president, and Oswego County Opportunities Board of Directors. Floyd served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Army Air Force. She received her BA degree from Hunter College, a master's degree from Radcliff College, and a PhD from Syracuse University in the social sciences. Mrs. Chertow was a member of Temple Society of Concord, and was active in local political and community affairs. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Bernard Chertow in 1999, and also predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Howard Saltzman. Two sisters, Angela Colucci and Giovannina DiIorio of Montreal and many nieces and nephews in Montreal and Toronto survive her. Her husband, Cosmo, died in 1992. Two sons-in-law, George Corp and James Komanecky, also predeceased her. An accomplished seamstress, she was employed by Elman's and retired from Learbury's. Maria was involved in many activities. She was a parishioner of St. Brigid & St. Joseph Church for 55 years. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Young at Heart luncheon group. She belonged to the Salina Town Hall Seniors and their bowling league. Maria often joined her daughters in volunteering. She worked at the Liverpool Athletic Booster Club concession stand during sporting events and volunteered at the Empire State Games. She helped raise funds for the restoration efforts of the Octagon House of Camillus. She assisted the North Syracuse Junior High School Builders Club, a student club that did volunteer work in the community. Throughout her life, Maria was interested in staying physically fit, belonging to various exercise clubs until the last years of her life She attended the school and athletic events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was born on the island of Kefalonia in Greece and moved to the United States over 40 years ago. Mary was an active member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church and the Daughters of Penelope. She was an integral part of several family businesses most notably Kefalonia Seafood and Archie's Place Restaurant on the S.U. hill where she was lovingly referred to as "Mama Archie". Mary enjoyed gardening and spending time with her four loving grandchildren. Larry served in the Navy, including submarine duty, during WW II. Pride runs deep. He was employed as vice president of DPC Corp. He was a daily communicant, Eucharistic minister, server and counter at St. Joseph's Church. He was past commander and treasurer of the American Legion, Knifetown Post 1540, as well as a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WW II Association. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the VA Hospital and the local food pantry. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia Holligan Robinson; children, Kevin Robinson of Cicero, Susan Robinson Shockey of Syracuse, Deborah Coon of Marietta, GA, Mary Kay Ferguson of Cleveland Heights, OH, and Sharon Robinson Farrell of S. Glens Falls; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Robert Robinson of Bastrop, TX; and several nieces and nephews. August 17, 2005 Walter E. Wild, 90, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday at Community General Hospital. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan, and resided in Syracuse since 1921. Walt was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Heenjoyed the company of his many friends and neighbors. He was a member of the original Northside and Southside Businessmen Associations. He was an avid gardener and volunteered as an AARP tax consultant. Walter graduated from Syracuse Central High School. He retired from the City of Syracuse Department of Engineering, and had previously worked many years as manager of Acme Coal Company. He was also affiliated with John Nels Construction, Reliable Paving, and the Top Notch Restaurant. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Wilbur Wild; sisters, Elise and Gertrude; brother, Alfred; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Patricia Wild.
