He was a salesman for Bliss and Laughlin Steel. He was a Lt. o44484dawson Colonel in the Marines during WWII and Korea. Hugh was a member of the Marcellus School Board where he was President for 11 years. Hugh also carried the Olympic Torch in 1996. (Metody) Evanoff, 93, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005 after a short illness in Lackawanna, NY where he resided with his daughter for the past 18 months. Husband of the late Petra Mitre Evanoff (d. 1997) and Anna Christo o34467evan Evanoff (d. 1936). He is survived by his seven children: Anna Viruet of New York City; Mary (Dean) Patton of Peoria, IL; Christina (and the late Nelson) Brown of Syracuse, NY; Theodora Pappas of Lackawanna, NY; Stephanie (Tom) McNicholas of Napa, CA.; Victoria (V. Rev. Fr. Rastko) Trbuhovich of Lackawanna, NY; and James (Martha) Evanoff of Rockville, MD. He had 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Theodore was the son of the late Vasil and Metra (Gosheva) Evanoff, and brother of the late Kyrill (Mitra) Nanchov, who died last year at the age of 96; and Dimitri (Eva) Evanoff, a World War II casualty of the D-Day invasion at Normany, France. Theodore entered the USA at the age of 16 in 1928 from Dolno Kotory, Macedonia, and learned the food business as a young man working in the American Stores. In 1946, he opened his own establishment, Ted's Choice Foods, in the Syracuse University business district at 137 Marshall Street where he was a member of the Marshall Street Businessmen's Assn. from 1946 - 1972, retiring at the age of 70. After retirement, from age 72 to 88, he was the Front End Manager of Peter's IGA on Nottingham Road."Ted" Evanoff was an avid golfer and gardener, and a community minded citizen. He served as an air raid warden during World War II. Theodore was active in the Americanization League and helped many immigrants to make Syracuse, New York their new home. He was also honored by the Macedonian Patriotic Organization for his life-long membership and service. Theodore was a founder of St. Mary's Macedono-Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church and a lifelong member and communicant of SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Syracuse, NY. More recently, he was a member of the St. Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church in Lackawanna. Mary was very devoted to her work and enjoyed helping her clients and their families. Mary was not only a mother to her daughter, but was also loved by others who called her "Mom". "Izzy" Rapasadi, 92, of 616 Deerfield Drive, Oneida, and Vero Beach, FL, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at his home in Vero Beach following a lengthy illness. He was affectionately known as the Onion King of Canastota. He was o15019rapasa born on June 23, 1913, in Linguaglossa, Italy, the son of Frank and Catina Coco Rapasadi. Isadore immigrated from Italy in 1920, living in Canastota most of his life. He has wintered in Florida for the past 25 years. He had been in the produce business all of his life, where he raised and trucked onions. He worked as manager of Caruso, Rinella, Battaglia in Canastota from 1936 to 1960. He then became founder and CEO of his own produce company in Canastota with his sons, as Isadore A. Rapasadi & Sons, Inc. A onetime sharecropper, he lived to see the company that bears his name become the largest onion and potato packaging company in New York State. Isadore had been a former member of the Canastota Rotary Club, and a member of the Canastota Civic Club, the Produce Marketing Association, the National Onion Association, the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association. Also he had served as a Canastota Village Trustee from 1947 to 1949, and in 1995 he received the Key to the Village of Canastota. He had been a 50-year member of the E. Bart Hanifin Council 473, Knights of Columbus, of Oneida, and the Oneida Elks Lodge #767. In 1982 he received the National Commanders Award from the Disabled American Veterans, in 1984 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Canastota Chamber of Commerce, and in 1994 he was the Canastota American Legion Charles Miller Post # 140 "Man of the Year". He was a communicant of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. Isadore married Catherine J. Sgroi on December 26, 1936 in Canastota. Catherine died on December 27, 1978. Survivors: His beloved Lorraine; a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Elizabeth Rapasadi of Canastota; three brothers; and two sisters-in-law, Frank and Mary Rapasadi of Fayetteville, Samuel P. and Sylvia Rapasadi, and James Rapasadi, all of Canastota; two sisters, Santina O'Brien of Oneida and Jennie Sorbello of Canastota; two grandchildren, Kathleen Rapasadi and Robert Rapasadi; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
