He enjoyed baseball, soccer, and basketball having participated inthe OCC summer basketball camp. Rick was an avid snowmobile racer on the Rock Maple Racing Circuit. He was a communicant of St. John's Church. He is survived by his parents, Margery A. Casey and Richard Gordon of Liverpool; three sisters, Jennifer, Candace and Tiffany; maternal grandmother, Joyce Casey; paternal grandparents, Richard and Diane Gordon. She was a commu-nicant of St. Patrick's Church and was a member and past president of the Altar & Rosary Society, past president of the Lucian Guild, member and past president of the Legion of Mary and a member of Our Lady's Rosary Makers. She was predeceased by her husband Willard J. Denesha in 1955, a son Carl J. in 1972 and daughter Arlie M. Keenan in 2000. Survivors: her daughter, Kathie A. February 3, 2005 John R. Holmes, M.D., 85, of Cazenovia, died at home on Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born in Syracuse on September 5, 1919, Dr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; his children, Gail Holmes (Alan Zelina) of Westlake, OH, John Jr. (San-dra) of DeWitt, Jill (William) Long of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, James (Ann) and Travis Holmes, Brian and Emily Neulander; and a brother, William, of DeWitt. A daughter, Rev. Lynn Holmes of Scotland, predeceased him in 1974. John was a graduate of the Mt. Hermon School, Connecticut, Wesleyan University, and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. After a two-year service as a Lt. J.G. in the U.S. Navy, he returned to a fellowship in pathology at Strong Memorial Hospital before beginning his practice of general medicine in East Syracuse and DeWitt for 50 years. John was a 49-year member of the Rotary Club of DeWitt and a past president of the club; a Paul Harris Fellow; Fellow of the American Academy of General Practice; life member of the AMA, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Legion Post 359; and a longtime member of the Cazenovia Golf Club. She was a graduate of Syracuse Central High School, and was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company, a medical secretary for Dr. Louis Retz MD and retired from the Syra-cuse Police Department (Records Division). She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a member of the American Legion Post 1468 Auxiliary, and the 95th Infantry Division Association. He grew up in Winchester, MA, and resided in the Poughkeepsie area for 10 years before moving to Liverpool in 1998. Phil received both an associ-ate's and bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. He played college baseball for S. Carolina and turned down an offer to play for the NY Mets in order to finish college. He managed various restaurants for several years for Restaurant Associates including the restaurants at Rockefeller Center, as well as operating the food services for the U.S. Open when it was held in NYC. He was the son of the late William Landers, and was survived by his wife Cheryl and daughter Jessica of Liverpool, and his stepmother Helen Hanft of Manhattan. Lee, age 61, of Lyncourt, passed away Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, NY, but resided in the Syracuse area most of his life. He was in the US Army and served in the Gulf War, he was with the 174th National Guard Re-serves, and retired as a Master Sargeant. Lester was employed by Crouse Hinds for over 25 years. Samuel was founder of WFBL, Syracuse's first radio station. Graduated from Syracuse General Nursing School, in her later years, was a nurse at Castle Rest, and worked at Enable serving the developmentally disabled, cared for many and loved by all. February 3, 2005 Jane Cullinan Mulcahey, 73, of Oswego, died Thursday, February 3 at University Hospital of apparent heart failure. Born in the family home of her parents, James P. and Catherine Sullivan Cullinan on April 17, 1931, Jane graduated from St. Mary'sSchool, Oswego High School (1948) and LeMoyne College. She majored in Sociology and was in the second graduation class of 1952. Jane married Daniel J. Mulcahey, Jr. in May 1952 and his career took them to Pittsburgh; Springfield, Mass.; Sharon, PA; Syracuse and back, to Oswego in late 1961. Mrs. Mulcahey started her teaching career at St. Mary's School in 1963 and later joined the staff of the Oswego City School District. She became accredited as a Reading Teacher and served, at various times, students K-12, retiring from Oswego High School in 1991. She touched many lives as a teacher, and will be long remembered for her caring dedication to her pupils. She was member of the New York State and International Reading Association, the New York State Retired Teachers Association. Jane was Communicant of St. Mary's Church. She grew up in Syracuse and was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Skrupa. After Vivianmarried former Pittsburgh Pirate's Coach John "Jack" Onslow with whom she traveled for six years during his baseball carrier as Manager of the Chicago White Sox and as a scout for the Boston Red Sox. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's RC Church in Acton and a member of its Alter Rosary Society. She was also a member of the St. Jude League. After her husband's death in 1960, she worked at the Middlesex Dry Cleaners in Acton, MA before moving to Liverpool in 2002. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by much of her family including Frank and Stella Skrupa, Rose and Shirley Machol, Joseph Skrupa, Conrad and Josephine Skrupa, Genevieve and James Kearney and Regina and Walter Wituszynski. Tomgraduated from SUNY Delhi in 1977 and he earned a BA degree in Architecture from Texas Tech University in 1981. For the past 24 years, Tom had been with the Beardsley Design Associates of Auburn. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Skaneateles. Tom was a coach for 16 years in the Delaney Youth Basketball League. He was a member of the Skaneateles Country Club. Sojak, Sister Aelred Sojak, CSJ February 3, 2005 Sister Aelred Joseph Sojak, CSJ, the former Anna Marie Sojak, died Friday February 3, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Born in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Andrew and Frances Walla Sojak. She was in the 75th year of her life as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Sister attended Seton High School, Baltimore and received bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of Saint Rose, Albany. She was principal of St. Patrick's and St. John the Evangelist Schools, Syracuse and taught in schools of the Albany and Syracuse dioceses including, St. Mary's Academy, Glens Falls; St. Patrick's School and Seton Catholic High School, Binghamton. Sister Aelred is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Julia Muska and Mrs. Frances Burrghauser, both of Baltimore, MD, and several nephews. Funeral Mass will be Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Chapel at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Relatives and friends may call at the Provincial House Chapel on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Evening prayer will be at 7 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, on the grounds of the Provincial House, Latham. St. John, 71, of Cato, died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Van Deuson, Catherine M. January 31, 2005 Catherine M. Van Deuson, 64, of King George, VA, died Monday, January 31, at Mary Washington Hospital. A native of Syracuse, Ms. Van Deuson resided in Syracuse most of her life and moved to Virginia where she retired. Surviving are a daughter, Maria Retter of Virginia; a son, Fred Van Deuson of Virginia; a brother, Fred Potter of Virginia; a grandson, Evan O. Granite of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service was held February 5, 2005 at Heritage Hall Nursing, King George, Virginia.
