She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a decorator bySyracuse China for 37 years before retiring in 1972. She was the widow of Samuel Antonacci who died in 1972. Mr. Bieling was a retired accountant, author, volunteer and owner of several businesses. Blase, 56, Carmel, IN, passed away February 21, 2005. Bill was born on April 3, 1948, to Edwin and June Squire Blase in Brooklyn, NY. He was employed as Financial Manager for 23 years with the Carrier Corporation, before retiring in 2004. Bill was a US Navy veteran. Cole Sr., James Alfred February 23, 2005 James A. (Al) Cole, Sr., 89, a resident of Oswego, died February 23, 2005 at the Oswego Hospital after a short illness. Born in Oswego, he was the son of Clarence E. and Helen (Draper) Cole. A vocal music teacher at the Oswego High School (retired, 1973), he was head of the Music Department and was previously instrumental teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School. He taught both instrumental and vocal music in Narrowsburg and Hannibal Central Schools. Mr. Cole graduated from St. Mary's School in Oswego and Immaculate Heart Academy, Watertown. He received both the B.A. and M.S. degrees in instrumental and vocal music from Ithaca College. He served in the Coast Guard as a Boatswain's Mate, 1st Class, during World War II, in the Atlantic Ocean. He was with the U.S.S. Conifer from the time it was commissioned at the Great Lakes Training Station. Mr. Cole was an organist for the Oswego Elks Lodge #271 for 47 years. In the latter years he formed a mixed choir of Elks and Ladies of the Auxiliary to perform for the annual memorial service. He served as organist and choir director of the original St. Paul's Church for several years during the 1960's. After he retired from public school teaching he became full-time organist and choir director in the new St. Paul's Church and retired from that position in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Muriel McGough Cole; three sons, James A. Cole, Jr. (Mary Patricia Miner), Oswego, Dr. David M. Cole (Dr. Karen Henry) of Lyme, NH; and Mark L. Cole of Oswego; two grandsons, James Cole-Henry and Darren Cole-Henry both of Lyme; a niece and several great-nephews and great-nieces. Mr. Defrees was born January 14, 1919, in McConnellsville, the son of Herbert and Marion Tuttle Defrees. He was a resident of Chittenango 33 years. He was employed at Bristol-Myers for 38 years, retiring as a group leader. Mr. Defrees was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chittenango where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. Dewey, age 84 of Forest Dr., Pulaski, died Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton. He was born on April 17, 1920 in Ripley, NY, the son of Leon and Elizabeth VanOstrand Dewey. He previously lived in Fredonia moving to Pulaski in 1946. He graduated from Ripley High School in 1938 and attended SUNY Fredonia. He served in the US Marines as a pilot from 1941 to 1946. He married Mary Lou Woods on November 15, 1942. He was employed by Burke Home Center in Oswego, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of Ringgold Fire Department and Pulaski VFW Post #7289. Durdel, Jr. of Baldwinsville, died peacefully at home Tuesday, February 22, 2005 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Madelyn (Todge) Rogers of Pheonix. Mr. Durdel was born July 6, 1921 in Oswe-go. Following graduation from Oswego High School, he flew 52 missions aboard a B-24 Bomber in the Army Air Corps, stationed in the South Pacific Theatre. Arthur was employed by New York Telephone Company for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was past president of the Baldwinsville Volunteer Fire Department, a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed many years of membership at Beaver Meadows Golf Club, as well as being a S.U. football and basketball season ticket holder. Arthur especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was born in Skaneateles at the family home on Fisher Rd. He was a graduate of Skaneateles High School in 1932. He retired from Crucible Steel Co.after 42 years of service in the Syracuse Plant. He was elected mayor in 1972 and served continually until 1991. He was the President of the Onondaga County Mayors' and Municipal Office Association for several years. He was a member of the Legislative Committee of the New York Conference of Mayors for several years. He was a past president of the Skaneateles Fire Department and a member since 1955. He was a member of the Onondaga County Fire Police and New York State Fire Police Association. He helped organize the S.A.V.E.S. Ambulance and emergency service in Skaneateles in 1966. He was a member of the Skaneateles Presbyterian Church, the Auburn Memorial Hospital Association, a past Master of the Skaneateles Grange, a member of Skaneateles Historical Society and the Skaneateles and Sennett Seniors Club. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rowena; two daughters, Judy (Michael) Welling of Lake Placid, Florida and Donna (Timothy) Princehorn of Franklin, TN; and a son, Russell (Diane) of Marcellus; seven grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. "Goldy" Goldsworth, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. "Goldy" had just returned home the previous day from three months of rehabilitation atLoretto Fahey. "Goldy" was born in Islip, New York on January 8, 1917, the son of the late Cornelius J. and Mae (Van Essendelft) Goldsworth. He lived in DeWitt for 50 years. He graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He worked for the General Electric Company for 38 years, retiring in 1980 as a District Manager. He was an elder with the former East Genesee Presbyterian Church and past president of the Bonsai Kai of Central New York. "Goldy" enjoyed woodworking, picture framing, and working with Bonsai alongside his wife, Cora. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cora Forebaugh Goldsworth, sons, John (Jane) Goldsworth of Southport, NC and Neal (Gail) Goldsworth of Mentor, OH; grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Goldsworth of Mentor, OH; sister, Ruth Duff of California. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Goldsworth. "Goldy" possessed individual qualities of compassion, kindness, thoughtfulness, sincerity and friendship to all he knew. Greene, Barbara Dorr February 17, 2005 Barbara Dorr Greene, 91, formerly of Fayetteville, died at St. John's Home, Rochester. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Carl E. and Amelia Morgan Dorr, longtime residents of Fayetteville. Mrs. Greene lived at 40 Lyndon Rd., Fayetteville 56 years before moving to Rochester in 1997. She was a 1931 graduate of Central High School and 1935 graduate of Wells College, Aurora. She worked as a social worker for Onondaga County Children's Court. She was a member of DeWitt Community Church and a member and past president of the Church's Women's Association. She was a member of the Country Garden Club, member and past president of Syracuse Area Wells College Alumnae Association, and a Board member of Huntington Family Center and the YWCA. She was active in forming the first Girl's Club in Syracuse. Her husband, Richard Deming Greene died in 1981 and her sister, Janice Fossieck died in 1985. Survivors: three daughters, Eleanor (John) Gummere of Farmington, CT, Shirley Davis of Santa Fe, NM, and Cynthia (C. Harig, 71, of Fayetteville and Henderson Harbor, died Tuesday after being cared for by his family at home. Born in Buffalo, he lived in Manlius and Fayetteville for 44 years. Mr. Harig was president of the Fayette Agency, Inc., Fay-etteville, which he founded in 1967. He had over 48 years experience in the insurance industry, starting his career at Liberty Mutual after graduating from Canisius High School and College in Buffalo. Mr. Harig moved to the Syracuse area after being promoted to Upstate NY District Manager, the youngest at the company. During his long and successful career, he served on the Agent's Advisory Boards for CNA Insurance Company, Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, and the Royal Sun Alliance Insurance Company. He was also a President's Club member with Peerless Insurance Company and an Insurance Committee volunteer for the Rescue Mission. Mr. Harig served twice as president of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, working hard to nurture positive working relations between local businesses and the community. He also actively managed and pursued commercial real estate opportunities. Mr. Harig was an avid sailor and fisherman, and served as Commodore of the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club. He loved to travel, scuba dive, read, paint nature scenes with watercolor, spend time with his family and friends, and tell stories. Survivors: his wife of 48 years, the former Betty Ann Nist; his children, M. Kathleen (Rob) Lynn of Fayetteville, Dr. Gretchen A. Harig of Santa Rosa, CA, Thomas M. Harig of Syracuse, and Janet H. Hughes, 79, of Volney, died Wednesday at Oswego Hospital. He was born to George and Beulah (Dimon) Hughes in 1925 and was raised in the town of Volney. Mr. Hughes was a block truck driver for Massaro Company and Northern Concrete Block in Volney until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Teamsters Local 317 in Syracuse. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 362nd Transportation Corps of the Harbor Craft Company in New Guinea, Philippines. Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his son, Thomas F. Hughes, who died December 4, 2004, and by brothers, Robert and William Hughes. Munger, Dominic February 22, 2005 Dominic "Moose" Munger, 86, of West Third St., Fulton, died at University Hospital, Syracuse. Mr. Munger was born in Fulton, and has been a lifetime resident. He served with the Civilian Conservation Crew (CCC) in Selkirk, NY and Idaho. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during 1940 to 1946. Mr. Munger operated Broadway Tire Shop, Fulton. He was a Democratic 2nd Ward Alderman from 1956 to 1966. He was the U.S. Postmaster in Fulton from 1966 to 1981. Mr. Munger worked as a Bailiff with Oswego County Court. He was an avid golfer and after the service he was a well known prize fighter in Central New York. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loretta Brzuchac Munger; four sons, Joseph (Lisa) Munger, David (Teresa) Munger, all of Fulton, Paul (Kathy) Munger of Fair Haven, James (Marsha) of Plattsburgh; a brother, Victor Munger of NJ; four sisters, Mary Castaldo of Oswego, Theresa Massa, Anne Bolton, and Rose Wasielewski, all of FL; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born in Smithbasin, NY, and grew up in Fulton, moving to Syracuse after she was married. She retired as a telephone op-erator with Consolidated Industries. She was featured in the 1/2004 Post-Standard Women of Great Expectations Edition. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church where she was a member of the Legion of Mary and volunteered for numerous church activities. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis at Assumption Church, Ida Benderson Senior Citizens, and Catholic Charities. She liked to travel with different senior citizens groups. She was an avid crocheter and made hundreds of children's hats which she donated to St. Jude's Ranch, Boystown, and the blind at The Lighthouse. Her husband Salvatore died in 1964. February 21, 2005 Ellen M. Smith, 79, of Schwartz Towers, formerly of Fleming, Conquest and Baldwinsville, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at University Hospital. Born in Baldwinsville, she was the daughter of the late Homer B. and Marie Hollenbeck Smith. Ellen graduated from Cato Meridian High School and attended Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. She returned home to Conquest to help care for her mother and younger brothers while working in the family store business. She later was employed at the Prudential Insurance Co. in Auburn for 30 years, where she was affectionately known as Miss Elle, retiring in 1988 as a nationally honored senior service representative. Ellen was a member of the Owasco Reformed Church and former board member of the Historical Sand Beach Reformed Church. Her piano playing and hobby of cake decorating graced many celebrations of her family, friends and acquaintances over the years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #169 and the Cayuga Court #44 order of Amaranth. Surviving are two brothers, Gordan B. Smith (Mary Ann) of Syracuse and Jeffrey G. He was born on December 5, 1969 in Norwich the son of Anthony and Barbara (Carroll) Zdobylak.
