She was born in Syracuse on December 6, 1921, the daughter of Hunter L. Betts and Cornelia Dean Betts. She graduated from Nottingham High School in 1940. Connie previously worked as Sales Manager at Blanchard Real Estate in Baldwinsville and retired in 1985 from Longley Jones of Syracuse as Property Manager. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Oliver "Bud" L. Cane; twin sons, Bruce and Dean Cane; brother, Dean F. Betts; and sister, Katherine Buckman. Capels, Nancy January 9, 2005 Nancy Capels, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 9, 2005, in Peoria, Arizona. She is survived by her devoted, loving husband of 58 years, Frederick J.; her daughter, Marilyn Fox of Scottsdale, AZ (Jim); grandson Jonathan Fox; two brothers, Alexander Joseph (Utica) and Bill Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was born in Utica, NY, on February 7, 1922. She moved to Solvay after marrying the love of her life, Frederick, in 1946. They lived in Jamesville, NY (Rams Gulch) from 1952-1959, before moving back to Solvay. In December 2002, they decided to head out west, to warm weather and family. Nancy was always on the go. She was active in PTA, local clubs, politics, and later in retiree clubs, bowling and golf leagues. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, cook, and being with others. She received her Bachelors degree at Oswego and her Masters degree from Syracuse University. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baldwinsville where she played organ for 25 years. Markowski, Stanley January 11, 2005 Stanley Markowski, 82, of Erieville, died Tuesday at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. Born in Utica, he had lived in Erieville most of his life. He was an auto mechanic and in later years, a machinery mechanic. Mr. Markowski was a veteran of World War II; a life member and past commander of the Cherry Valley Post 113 of the VFW; a past member of the Erieville Fire Department; and a member of the Cazenovia Swingers Square Dancers. He loved to hunt and fish. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Alberta; his daughters, Nettie Williams of Morrisville, Zoe Ann Austin of Elkin, NC, and Vicky Stewart of Cazenovia; his sons, Bob (Fran) of Erieville, Stephen (Amy) of Erieville, James (Lori) of Erieville; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was a 1994 graduatefrom Liverpool High School where she was a manager of the Girls Field Hockey Team and the Boys Varsity Basketball Team. She was a lifelong resident of Solvay and Lakeland. Fannie was a Keypunch Operator at Crucible Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1979. She was a communicant of OurLady of Peace Church and member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union #1277 and the Crucible Steel Retirees Club. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, June and Mike Kosko, of Lakeland; two grandchildren, Kevin Kosko, of Narragansett, RI and Lisa Crimi, of Onondaga Hill; four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Published in the Syracuse Post Standard on 1/13/2005. Schoeneck, Helen Julia (Gorman) Schoeneck January 11, 2005 Helen Julia (Gorman) Schoeneck, 99, died peacefully at St. Camillus on January 11. Born in Syracuse, NY, on September 18, 1905, to John P. and Nellie Carey Gorman, she was a member of the first graduating class of Cathedral HighSchool, and then the Syracuse City Normal School. She taught in area schools until her marriage to Dr. Ferdinand J. Schoeneck, a well known obstetrician during the 30's, 40's and 50's. They were married on September 22, 1928, in St. Anthony's Church. During World War II, Helen and her family spent the years 1942-1946 in Newport, RI, Quantico, and Portsmouth, VA, while her husband volunteered his services as a Navy doctor at these bases. Helen was a member of numerous hospital and medical auxiliaries, and served several terms as president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Therese Church and their Altar and Rosary Society, dating back to the purchase of their home on Scott Ave. in 1931. In 1999 she became a resident of the Bernadine Apartments. Helen was affiliated in her later years with Home Aides in the business office. She was a volunteer for many years at Hope for Bereaved and was a loyal member of the Catholic Women's Club and the Newcomer's Club, where she pursued her favorite hobby, playing bridge. One of her most enjoyable occupations was spending time at her Otisco Lake summer home, which had been purchased in 1938. Here she always was surrounded by members of her large loving family. She will be best remembered by all for her kindness and friendliness. She was predeceased by her husband, F.J. Schoeneck, in 1971; her granddaughter, Mary T. Schoeneck in 1977; two brothers, Paul F. Gorman in 1970 and J. Daniel Gorman in 1985; and her sister, Margaret T. Gorman in 1996. Surviving are her sons, F. John (Carol) Schoeneck and William H. (Barbara) Schoeneck of Syracuse, and David G. (Therese) Schoeneck of Marietta, NY; and a daughter, Christine M. (Keith) Hart of Hermosa Beach, CA; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion G. Mahoney; and 10 nieces and nephews. Scott Steggall, 65, died Sunday in Rochester, NY after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was the son of the late Winfield Scott and Elizabeth MacDowell Steggall, and brother of the late Drusa Steggall Black, all of Onondaga Hill. He received his PhD in Counseling from Florida State University, and spent most of his career in Florida as a psychotherapist and professor. Later he returned to Syracuse where he taught at OCC and had a private practice. He is survived by a niece, Wendy Mancarella; nephew, David Black, and many cousins. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. Arrangements are in the care of Greenleaf Funeral Home. She was born and raised in Theresa, NY, and moved to Syracuse where she worked as a nanny and housekeeper. She met and married GeorgeWagner who later was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge while serving his country in the Army. Mrs. Wagner went on to work for Syracuse Transit, Pass and Seymour and General Electric. In her later years, she worked as a home health aide doing in home care for Eastwood Agency. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ferne and William (Moose) Dibbern; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and some very special friends; especially members of the Van Dreason Families.
