January 13, 2005 Teresa I. Alford, 42, of Syracuse, departed this life on
Thursday at University Hospital after a short illness. She was born in
Syracuse and was a graduate of Corcoran High School. Survivors: her mother,
Loree Alford; godfather, Wil-lie Reese; three sisters: Martha (Roosevelt)
Putman, Julia (Theodore) Holmes and Darlene (Dwight) Long; two brothers,
William Mack Alford and William Reese; several nieces, nephews and a host of
cousins and friends. Services: Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Christ Missionary Baptist
Church, with Rev. Lessley Gilmore officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Bangson, Doris Anna   
January 15, 2005 Doris Anna Bangson, 78, of North Syracuse, NY, died Saturday
in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY. Mrs. Bangson was born in Jersey Shore, PA,
and lived In North Syracuse for over 45 years. The daughter of the late Karl
E. and the late Estella F.Womer Wolff, she was a community service worker
employed by Onondaga County Dept. of Social Services, a member of Cicero
Republican Committee and former member of the American Legion. Two sons
survive her: Barry D. Bangson Jr. of Chattanooga, TN, and Bradley C. Bangson
of West Monroe; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Friends may call
Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Sears-Middleton-Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 209 N.

Combes, Dorothy   
January 15, 2005 Dorothy Combes, 86, of Fulton, died Saturday at A.L. Lee
Memorial Hospital, Fulton. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Thomas.

Devendorf, Melvin "Sonny"   
January 13, 2005 Melvin W. "Sonny" Devendorf, 77, of 327 W. Genesee St.,
Chittenango, died Thursday in North Carolina. Mr. Devendorf was a life
resident of Chittenango. He was a graduate of SUNY Oswego and taught auto
mechanics for 20 years at the Onondaga-Madison BOCES. He previously was an
auto mechanic at the former Pat's Chevrolet in Chittenango for 20 years. Mr.
Devendorf was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and later served in the Korean
Conflict with the U.S. Marines. For many years he was a scoutmaster with Boy
Scout Troop 11 in Chittenango. He attended the First Baptist Church. Surviving
are his wife of 51 years, the former Jeanne Hicks; three sons, William L.
(Dody) of Chittenango, John L. of Rochester and Steven W. (Denise) of
Chittenango; two daughters, Pamela Glover of Chittenango and Vicki (Brian)
Gridley of East Syracuse; two sisters, Betsy (Eddie) Bemis of Chittenango and
Mary Jane (Ernie) Colvin of Morrisville; 15 grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home,

January 10, 2005 Gladys Elay "La La" Dudley, 35, of 732 W. Onondaga Ave.,
passed away peacefully Monday at University Hospital. Survivors: She leaves to
cherish her memory her husband Gregory Warren of Syracuse; her mother and
stepfather Er-nestine Mack-Johnson and Robert Kitching, both of Syracuse; her
father Jimmie Dudley of FL; five sisters: Velvet Mack, Merlene Singletary and
Brandi Gallishaw, all of Syracuse; Carolyn Dudley of FL; and Audrey Dudley of
NY, NY; four brothers: Ernest Mack, Tony (Dud) Holloway and Ellis Dudley, all
of Syracuse; and Carlos Dudley of FL. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Monday at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 347 Cortland Ave., with funeral

Giacobbi, Verna "Nellie"   
January 14, 2005 Verna "Nellie" Giacobbi, 95, a life resident of Syracuse,
died Friday in the Iroquois Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Peter Giacobbi. Verna worked with her husband in Giacobbi Excavating
and later became an avid antique enthu-siast. She owned and operated Verna's
Antiques. She was a former president of Convent School Mothers' Club, a member
of St. Therese Society, a member of St. Anthony Society at Our Lady of Pompei
Church and a member of The Daughters of Columbus. Verna is survived by a
sister, Lena (James V.) Sgroi; three children: Peter R. Giacobbi of Camillus,
Roz Giacobbi-Nichols and her husband Ronald Nichols of Fayetteville, and Jean
Rizzo of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren: Michael and Vincent Scaravillo;
Peter Giacobbi; Elissa Soulia; Neil Giacobbi; Karen, Kristine and Michele
Rizzo; four great-grandchildren: Vincent and Anthony Scaravillo, Sophia
Scaravillo and Anabel Giacobbi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 9:15 a.m., at Pirro & Sons
Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei Church. Burial will be in

Golden, Catherine Lynn   
December 31, 2004 Catherine Lynn Golden, 38, formerly of Marcellus, died
Friday, December 31, 2004, at Dominican Hospital, Santa Cruz, CA. She was born
in Syracuse. Catherine graduated from Marcellus High School in 1984, where she
was an outstanding athlete in gym-nastics and track. She distinguished herself
as a member of the track team at the University of Vermont, graduating in
1988. In 1998, she was inducted into the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame. Catherine
went on to earn a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Florida.
During her graduate studies, she did research with NASA scientists and went on
to work for NASA for a number of years. She worked for the Department of
Defense as a manager of research projects. Catherine lived life to the
fullest; she was a licensed pilot, rock climber, snow boarder, mountain biker
and surfer. Survivors: her parents, Paula Golden of Camillus and John Golden
of Beaufort, SC; and sisters, Laura and Seana Golden of Santa Cruz, CA. A
memorial service celebrating the life of Catherine will be held at St. John's
Episcopal Church, Marcellus, on Saturday, February 12, at 10 a.m. Donations
may be made in Catherine's memory to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14
Plaza Suite 1400, New York, NY 10122.

January 14, 2005 Charles L. Hillman, 67, of Oswego, died Friday. Surviving are
a daughter, Shelley West; two sons, Ronald and Douglas; two brothers. Services

Jaquint, Florence C.   
January 12, 2005 Florence C. Jaquint, 83, passed away peacefully with her
family and friends by her side on Wednesday at Francis House. A native of
Syracuse, she spent the winters in Madeira Beach, Florida, with her husband of
62 years, Patrick S., whodied in 2000. A former employee of Easy Washer and
G.E., she retired from Syracuse Savings Bank. Florence was a dedicated woman
who loved her family above all else. She was predeceased by her son Carl D. in
1990. Survivors: her daughter, Pat (Bill) Duffy of Liverpool; daughter-in-law,
Linda Jaquint of East Syracuse; brothers, Donald and Jerry Nigro of
Connecticut; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan, Elsa, Robert, Josephine
Jaquint and Theresa Maley; grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Harding, Jim (Sheri)
Barletta, Daniel Jaquint, Kristin (Jeff) Coir, Joe (Sarah) Jaquint, Matthew
(Holly) Jaquint and Carl Jaquint; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews. Services: A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, 10 a.m., at Holy
Trinity Church. The family will receive friends in the gathering room at the
church from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. In

Kittredge, Daniel   
November 22, 2004 Daniel Kittredge, 53, died in Atlanta, GA. He was born to
William and Elizabeth Kittredge and was a 1970 graduate of Corcoran High
School. Survived by his brother, Kevin T. of Northhampton, MA; sisters,
Catherine Johnson Weimann of Franklin, NC; Beth Salany and Rita Kittredge of
Vero Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister,
Karen Mclaughlin. Funeral services were private. His ashes will be spread at
Groton Long Point, CT, at a later date.

Kosmetatos, Jerry   
January 15, 2005 Mr. Jerry Kosmetatos, 93, a longtime resident of Syracuse and
owner of Liberty Diner, died in Atlanta, Saturday, January 15, 2005. Born in
Greece, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He is
survived by his wife of 57 years, Effie; daughter, Niki; son, Aries; grandson,
John; sisters, Maria Floratos and Irene Venos; sister-in-law, Katina
Kosmetatos, alll of New York; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Wednesday, January 19, at
11 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Those desiring may send

Loos, Caroline S.   
January 13, 2005 Caroline Schill Loos, 93, formerly of Loma Ave., Syracuse,
died Thursday at Loretto Health Center. She was a life resident of Syracuse.
She was a graduate of Assumption School and attended North High School. She
worked for Solvay Processand later with Rotondo Trucking Company, retiring in
1972. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of its
Mothers Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. Her husband Edward predeceased
her in 1958. Also predeceased by her two brothers, John and Joseph Schill, and
her sister Ann Dodge. She is survived by her son, Edward R. (Susan) Loos of
Camillus; a brother, Richard Schill of Fort Meyers, FL; a sister, Helen
Ostrowski of Warners; several nieces and nephews. Services 12:30 p.m. Monday

Luzzi, Marguerite G.   
January 13, 2005 Marguerite G. Luzzi, 93, of Ormond Beach, FL, died Thursday.
Born in Syracuse on June 23, 1911, daughter of Louis Ray and Angelina LaManna.
Moved to Ormond Beach in 1967. Retired executive secretary and a homemaker.
She en-joyed travel and writing, having had a few poems published. Charter
member of the Lyncourt Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in the 1940s. Formerly
very active with the Republican Party in Syracuse and Daytona Beach. Attended
St. Paul Catholic Church in Daytona Beach, FL. Predeceased by her husband,
James Joseph Luzzi. She is survived by daughters, Carol Ann Luzzi and Jean
McMillen, both of Ormond Beach; sisters, Dorothy Lando of St. Augustine, FL,
and Marie Covino of Syracuse; grandsons, John James McMillen of Dallas, TX,
Michael Thomas McMillen and his wife Lesley of Deltona, FL; and other extended
family members in the Syracuse area. Donations to the Lyncourt Fire

Miller, Paul R.   
January 14, 2005 Paul R. Miller, 74, of 7 Dominic St., Oswego, died Friday at
Oswego Hospital. Mr. Miller was born in Oswego and was the son of the late C.
Raymond Miller and Anastasia "Stella" (Korajwo) Miller. He is survived by
three brothers: Charles Miller, James Miller and Lawrence Miller, all of
Oswego. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Miller. Funeral services will
be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Church, Oswego. Burial will be in
St. Peter's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions can be

Montague, A. Pierre "Pete"   
January 15, 2005 A. Pierre "Pete" Montague, 97, of Marcellus, died Saturday.
He was a 1927 graduate of Baldwinsville Academy. Pete, also known as "Dry
Dock," worked as a dredger for the NYS Barge Canal for 14 years. He was a
55-year member of Local#60. Pete worked 25 years as an iron worker for
Syracuse Rigging Co., retiring in 1972. He was a communicant of St. Francis
Xavier Church, Marcellus. Pete was a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge BPOE
#2367, the Elbridge Rod and Gun Club, and NARVE #53. He summered many years at
Brennan Beach, enjoyed traveling and also reading. His first wife, the former
Mary Coyne, died in 1944. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Mary
Niebieski; two daughters, Mary Ann (Dick) Kopp of Syracuse and Jeannine (Bud)
Campbell of Elbridge; one sister, Catherine Rice of Baldwinsville; three
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4
to 7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main St., Marcellus, with an Elk service

January 14, 2005 James A. Reed, 69, of Church St., Lacona, self-employed truck
driver, died Friday at his home. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; one
son, Gregory of Baldwinsville; a stepdaughter, Deborah Johnson, and a stepson,
Fred Weisenberger, both of Pulaski; a brother, Randy Reed of Adams Center. The
funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.

Rothschild, Heinz   
January 13, 2005 Heinz Rothschild, 85, was born in Germany and had been a
resident of Syracuse for over 59 years. He was formerly employed as the office
manager for the Pilgrim Meat Packing Company. Heinz was a patron of the arts,
and particularly active with Syracuse Stage as a volunteer. Survived by his
stepbrother Jerry (Natalie) Happek; and his longtime companion Rita Seligman.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Frumah Packard Cemetery.

Staehr Sr., Joseph Paul   
January 13, 2005 Joseph Paul Staehr Sr., 78, of Springport, died Thursday. He
co-owned the Staehr Brothers Dairy Farm in Springport with his twin brother.
Survived by his wife, Jean Hayes Staehr; four sons: Joseph Jr., Robert G., Dr.
Richard P. and Jonathan E.; a daughter, Laura Jessen; four grandchildren; a
twin brother, August; and three sisters. Visitation will be January 17 from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn.
Services will be Tuesday, January 18, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church.

Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Delianuova, Italy, and came to Syracuse in
1955. He was employed with Alpha-Portland Cement Co. for 22 years, retiring in
1977. He is survived by hiswife of 70 years, the former Maria Teresa Faraone;
two daughters, Domenica (Angelo) Del Brocco of E. Syracuseand Maria Paolina
Tassone of Jamesville; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Tassone of Fayetteville; four
