He was a 1946 graduate of Altmar-Parish High School, where he received the U.S. History award. A retired farmer, Walt was al-so a fine welder, carpenter and mechanic. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Walt was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Jordan. Surviving are his brother, Dr. Edward J. Beney, Virginia I. January 22, 2005 Virginia I. (Martinsen) Beney, 77, of Camillus, died Saturday. She was born in Chicago, IL, on February 4, 1927, and was the daughter of Lloyd and Violet Martinsen. Mrs. Beney lived in Niagara Falls until moving to Camillus in 1964 and resided at The Nottingham in Jamesville for the past two years. She was a graduate of LaSalle High School, served as a member of the Prince of Peace Altar & Rosary Society and was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Mrs. Beney was employed by Le Moyne College Bursar's Office until her retirement in 2000. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Richard J. Beney, in May 2003. Gokey, Shirley Haley January 21, 2005 Shirley Haley Gokey, 70, died Friday. She was born in Richland, NY, and resided in Liverpool for many years before moving to Solvay. Shirley graduated from Syracuse Central High School and was employed at Carrier Corporation (secretarial) prior to raising her family. She subsequently worked for Sibley's Department Store (bakery), and for Onondaga County Social Services. Shirley was an active member of Believers' Chapel, Cicero, and regularly participated in church-related causes and programs. She was predeceased by her mother, Tressie M. Haley. She is survived by her brother, William Haley Sr.; her sons: John R. (Susan) Gokey, William M. (Joan) Gokey and Edward A. Ingram, Christopher Bryant January 19, 2005 Christopher Bryant Ingram, 38, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Syracuse, entered into the presence of the Lord January 19, 2005. Christopher was a graduate of Fowler High School in 1984 and Syracuse University in 1989. He worked forFord Motor Credit and was owner and operator of Ing's Wings in Atlanta. Chris's athletic ability commenced from his high school days at Fowler; he was captain of the football and track teams. He was first in the city and third in the state in the 110 hurdles with a personal best of 14.3 seconds. At Syracuse University he was a three-year starter at defensive back. He was selected first team All East/All-ECAC and honorable mention All-American. He was an avid gardener, specializing in his love of flowers and vegetables. He was born in Syracuse and educated in the Syracuse schools. He was a veteran of WWII in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theatreof Operations in Japan. Anthony was a communicant of Clay Presbyterian Church, Clay, NY. He enjoyed fishing, his vegetable garden, his grandchildren and his home life. Upon his return from the war, he was employed as a bricklayer and was a lifetime member of Laborers' International Union of North America, Local Union No. 633. In 1952, Tony married the former Barbara Gabor, who died in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Helen Ryder Paratore of Liverpool; two daughters, Suzanne M. Seltzer, 45, of Syracuse, died on January 15, 2005, at home after an 18-month battle with cancer. Born in Minneapolis, MN, to George and Miriam Seltzer, he was an Alumni Associate Professor in the Earth Science Department atSyracuse University, where he had worked for the past 11 years. Geoff achieved success through his scientific work in the tropical Andes, through his warm and sustaining mentoring of many graduate students and post-doctorates and through his leadership in the vice chancellor's Environmental Spire. His scholarly priority was understanding the dynamics of ice caps and high lakes in tropical systems. Geoffrey is survived by his wife, Katie Reed; father, George Seltzer of Minneapolis; brothers, Jonathan and Matthew of Minneapolis and Ethan of Portland, OR; and their families. He was a valued member of every community he was a part of and will be missed. Born on Pleasantview Avenue in Syracuse, he lived most of his life in Mattydale. As a young man, Andy was employed by Carrier Corporation and then by Crouse-Hinds as a tool and die maker. In 1952 he opened his first restaurant on Hiawatha Boulevard on Syracuse's Northside. He operated a subsequent restaurant, Andy's, on Wolf Street and Carbon Street until his retirement. An avid golfer, he was a member of Lakeshore Yacht and Country Club for over 40 years. Andy was predeceased by his wife Jean Kaminski in 1986. He is survived by daughters: Jean M. (H. Barton) Clapsaddle of North Syracuse, Elaine M. (Lynn) Benedict of Schoharie and Norine A. A native of Camillus, she resided in Cicero for 30 years and Mattydale for 30 years before moving to Van Duyn in 2000. Norma workedfor many years as a cook and waitress at various restaurants in the North Syracuse and Cicero areas. She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the American Legion Post 1832 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3146, both in Mattydale. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene in 1957.
