Ciero Sr., age 88, of Syracuse, NY, passed away Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital with his wife and sons at his side. He was born in Blairsville, PA, one of eight children, and moved to Syracuse with his family at the age of nine. He retired fromGeneral Electric in 1979 as manager of the "Class E" Store, after 29 years with the company. He also worked at Remington Rand in Elmira and Syracuse. Tony was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church where he served as past president of the Holy Name Society, Eucharist Minister, Lay Lector and Parish Council. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. Tony was a member of the Mattydale VFW Post 3146 and Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Josephine Morga; two sons, Anthony (Joan) of Rochester, John of Syracuse; two grandchildren, Catherine and Paul of Rochester; one sister, Irene Barrett of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews. Davis, Ernest Dane January 23, 2005 Ernest Dane Davis died on January 23, 2005, just two weeks after his 91st birthday. Dane was born in Beverly, MA, on January 6, 1914. He attended the Loomis School, and graduated from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT). After serving inEngland during World War II, he became a Mathematics/English teacher at the Pebble Hill School in DeWitt, NY. It was there that he met Gladys Taggart, a widow with one small boy. He and Gladys were married in 1947. Dane spent most of his working career as a technical proofreader at Carrier Corporation. He gave extensive time to volunteering at many of the local hospitals and senior citizen's facilities in the Syracuse area. Dane and Gladys were longtime parishioners of First Presbyterian Church United, in Syracuse, attending for more than 50 years. Dane sang in the choir and was active in the deacons and elders hierarchy; he was also a longtime head of the ushers' committee. Dane was predeceased by Gladys, who died in 2001, and by his infant son Ricky. He is survived by his son Tim Taggart (of Houston, TX); grandchildren, Chuck Taggart (Candor, NY), Bethany Taggart (Syracuse, NY), and Wendy Treat (Candor, NY); great-grandchildren, Chelsea Taggart (Candor, NY), Kaley Taggart (Syracuse, NY), and Jacob Copeland (Candor, NY). Debrucque Sr., John B. January 25, 2005 John B. Debrucque Sr., 83, of 423 New Boston Street, Canastota, died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. He was born on May 25, 1921, in Canastota, the son of Alexander and Madeline DenHaese Debrucque. John lived in Canastota all his life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1938. He joined his father in the family businesses as a young boy, Debrucque Farms and Debrucque Greenhouses in Canastota, and was involved in them all his life. John was a member of the Canastota School Board from 1959-1964, and had been an active member and Trustee in the former Canastota Methodist Church for many years. He was also a member of NYS Polled Hereford Association, and worked with the NYS Cooperative Extension Service. He was a member of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church. John married Betty M. Dygert on June 29, 1940, in Canastota. He was predeceased by a son, Alexander Debrucque; a sister, Clarice Putzig and her husband Roger Putzig; and a great-grandson, Alexander R. Debrucque. He retired in 1978 after 40 years as a Lens Grinder for the American Optical Co. in Syracuse. Edward was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the barbershop Chorus of the Onondaga and played harmonica with the Harmony Katz. He also coached for the Mattydale Little League for 14 years, and he was a member of the Mattydale-Hinsdale Senior club. Gardner, 83, formerly known as Rena Gardner Clapp, died peacefully at Crouse Hospital after a brief stay. Born in Caughdenoy, NY, she lived in the Central Square/Brewerton area most of her life. She was self employed as a beautician for many years before she worked as a teller and installment loan clerk at the First National Bank of Central Square. In her later years, Rena helped her daughter Barbara raise her two daughters, Samantha and Jessica. Rena was actively involved in her community. She was a longtime member of the Universalist Church of Central Square, serving as treasurer for many years, and she enjoyed working with the Central Square Lioness Club. He was born on May 1, 1931, in Syracuse, the son of Bernard M. and Catherine Collins Gleeson. George spent his early years in Syracuse, attending the Syracuse schools. He worked in the construction business most of his life, initially working in the Carpenters' Union in Syracuse, and later owned and operated Gleeson and Sons General Contracting in Canastota. George was a member of the former Amegio Club in Canastota. He was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and watching boxing. He also enjoyed his camp on the St. Lawrence River for the past 17 years. He also enjoyed watching his two boys compete in the sport of wrestling. George married Natalina R. Mevec, 77, of Syracuse, died Tuesday at Community General Hospital after being stricken at home. Louis was born in Vandling, PA, the son of Louis and Frances (Petrocic) Mevec. He retired from General Electric in 1989 after 30 years ofservice as a Skilled Trades Forman. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Tully-VFW American Legion. He is Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and then worked for GE overseas. He then became a graduate of SUNY Potsdam. Richard then worked for Carrier Corp., Crouse Hinds for 16 years, Health Care Data Systems, Penn Traffic, and most recently, Bank of New York. He was an active tennis player, and supporter of the Cicero-North Syracuse Field Band. He was predeceased by his mother Virginia in 1991 and his father Robert in 2004.
