January 25, 2005 Timothy M. Barber, 43, of Palermo, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at Fulton Memorial Hospital. Tim resided in Palermo with his fiancee, Tracey Hilgenberg, and worked as a self-employed mechanic for many years. He was predeceased by his father, Roland Barber, in 1995. Tim leaves behind to cherish his memory two children, Erica and Timothy James (T.J.), both of Palermo. He retired from the O.M. Edwards Co. He was a member of the GermanAmerican Singing Society, Bavarian Club Almenrausch and Turners Club of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his wife Waltraud Bippus, May 1998. Peterboro Street, Canastota, died Wednesday, at the Episcopal Church Home, Rochester, following a brief illness. She was born on May 17, 1909, in Duanesburg, NY, the daughter of Carmenand Rose Notartomasso Cerio. Jennie lived in Canastota most of her life, attending the Canastota schools. She had lived in Henrietta for a year and a half, and had been a resident of the Episcopal Home for the last year and a half. She was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, and the Altar Rosary Society. She married Samuel L. DeVencenzo on November 26, 1927 in Canastota. Sam died on January 26, 1995. Born in Munchien, Germany, he came to America in 1955. He married Rosa in 1957. Together they ran a pizza parlor for many years before settling in Skaneateles. Rosa predeceased him in 1986. He is survived by two sons, Bruno Gosch IV and Christopher E. Gosch; two daughters, Gabriele I. Whitman and Katharina C. Myers; three sisters in Germany, Martha Stoyer, Helga Turk and Ellen Mueller. Bob graduated Syracuse University School of Law in 1956; he was then admitted to the New York State Bar Association in 1957. He began his career practicing law with Henry Lucy in Homer until March 1964, when he was elected Cortland County District Attorney, a position he held until December 1979. From January 1980 until August 1983 he served in the capacity of Public Defender, and was the attorney for the town of Homer for 41 years. Predmore Jr., Gene George January 27, 2005 Gene George Predmore Jr., 38, of Cazenovia, died Thursday at Northern Westchester Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Hamilton, he had lived in Cazenovia for the past three years, previously living in Bridgeport. Gene was a corrections officer for the Green Haven Correctional Facility. He was a member of the NRA. Besides spending time with his family, Gene loved to hunt. He was predeceased by his father, Gene G. Ranieri, Anthony Joseph January 26, 2005 Beloved husband and father, Anthony Joseph Ranieri, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Community General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Syracuse, NY, to Joseph and Rose Ciciarelli Ranieri, hegrew up in Oneida and attended Oneida City Schools. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, where he also received master's degrees in history and counseling and an advanced degree in educational administration. His career in education spanned over 35 years as teacher, counselor and administrator with the Syracuse City School District. At the time of his retirement he was Executive Vice Principal of Henninger High School. Following his retirement he worked at the Sydney Johnson Center in the GED program helping prepare adult students to qualify for that exam. He was a member of the School Administrators' Association and Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity. A dedicated teacher, his caring and involvement with his students earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, faculty, and most especially his students who long after graduation continued to recognize the positive impact he made on their lives. Anthony took great joy in time spent with friends and family, especially in his kitchen. He was a gifted chef who derived much pleasure from preparing wonderful meals for others. He was known for his Christmas Eve feasts, which included the traditional Italian fish specialties, as well as the customary holiday baking. He was a good, kind man who dealt with his physical sufferings without complaint. He will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Peter Ranieri. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Sindoni Ranieri; two daughters, Christine Ranieri of Liverpool, NY, and Julie Ranieri of Boston, MA; one son, Joseph A. Shults, of Fairmount, died Thursday at home after a short illness. He was born May 9, 1916 in Herkimer, NY and moved to Syracuse in 1930. He was a 1935 graduate of Most Holy Rosary School and also attended CCBI BusinessSchool. He worked for Gaylord Bros. Furniture Factory for five years and at Crucible Steel for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He was very active in union activities - winning many grievances for union employees. Harry was a member of Syracuse Ostomy Association and it's treasurer for 25 years. He was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, the American Red Cross, and a visitor for Syracuse Ostomy Assoc. He was an avid sports fan and played on several champion basketball teams in the 30's and 40's. He loved to play golf and bowl. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, the Holy Name Society and Golf League. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Whipple; and brother, John Shults. He is survived by his wife, Alice of 63 years; two sons, John T. She had retired as a secretary after many years with ESM Schools. Marie also was an avid golfer and bridge player. Varano, 78, of 311 Park Ave., Herkimer, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005 in Valley Health Services. January 21, 2005 Mrs. Anna B. (Polifroni) Vassallo died on Friday, January 21 in Regents Hospital, Minnesota. She was born in Syracuse on February 26, 1925. She was the beloved wife of Peter Vassallo who died in 2002. She retired in 1985 from Crouse HindsCo., Syracuse. January 25, 2005 Rod Zetko, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday. He was a private investor, published author, and sportsman. He served his country in the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions and was a member of the U.S. Army boxing team. He played semi-pro baseball,won numerous city and state tennis titles, and was an internationally acclaimed fisherman. He attended St. Lawrence University, participating in baseball and football, Syracuse University graduate school, and Albany Law School.
