January 29, 2005 William A. Bangs, 95, of Van Duyn Home, Onondaga Hill, died Saturday. An SU graduate, Bill retired in 1974 as an electrical engineer from Niagara Mohawk. His hobby was making wooden toys and giving them away. He was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of Bellevue Heights United Methodist Church and a very active member of the former Lafayette Avenue United Methodist Church for over 55 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Rachel, and a daughter, Janet Bangs. Survivors: daughter, Beverly Large of Syracuse; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, all of this area. Desimone, Leonard N. January 29, 2005 Leonard N. Desimone, 85, a life resident of Syracuse, died Saturday at his home. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church. Mr. Desimone had been employed as a construction worker for many years before his retirement and was amember of Laborers Local 333. He served with the U.S. Army Artillery during World War II, was a member of the Knights of the Cross and a lifetime member of the YMCA. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. January 30, 2005 Katherine M. Finocchiaro, 94, formerly of 4201 Churchill Lane, died Sunday morning, January 30, 2005, in Stonehedge Nursing Home, Rome, where she had been a patient for the past six and one-half years. Born in Linguaglossa, Sicily, on Octo-ber 5, 1910, she was the daughter of Salvatore and Lucia Gullo Ponticello, coming to the United States at the age of two. Mrs. Finocchiaro was educated in Canastota schools. She married Louis Finocchiaro in St. Agatha's Church, Canastota, on January 10, 1931. Mr. Finocchiaro died on April 15, 2004. Prior to her retirement, with 18 years of service, Mrs. Finocchiaro was employed with Canastota Central Schools as the supervising cook in the high school cafeteria. She was a communicant of St. Agatha's Church and a member of the church's Altar-Rosary Society, a former member of the Lewis Point Home Bureau and the Canastota Parent-Teacher Association, and was very involved in crocheting. Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law: Jane and Lyle Hicks and Lucy Coleman, all of Canastota; Rosalie and Daniel Lewis of Severna Park, MD, and Mary Kay Finocchiaro of Rome; one son, Louis S. Finocchiaro of Oneida; one sister, Rose Ponticello of New York City; one brother-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Connie and Josephine Finocchiaro, Marion Finocchiaro, all of Canastota, Ruth Finocchiaro of Syracuse, Santa Todora of Liverpool and Lena Tebsherany of Utica; three cousins: Lucy Funari De Costy and Jennie Scali Schuster, both of Canastota, and Maryanne Lembo of Liverpool; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Guinta, Joseph January 29, 2005 Joseph Guinta, 85,of 14 Dublin Street, Oswego, died Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Guinta was born in Italy, the son of the late Jack and Esther Guinta. He was a machinist for St. Regis, Marathon, and later retired in 1982 from Papertronics. Mr. Guinta was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, and he enjoyed gardening, boating and traveling with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Anna Guinta in 1988 and his sister Frances Guinta. Mr. Guinta is survived by two sons, Jack (Michelle) Guinta of Baldwinsville and Carmen (Denise) Guinta of Oswego; one daughter, Linda Guinta of Oswego; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was a communicant of Assumption Church and had formerly been employed by St. Joseph's Hospital and then by the Learbury Clothing Co. She had been a member of the St. Anthony Society at Our Lady of Pompei Church. Her husband Louis Intondi died March 17, 2002. She is survived by three children: Connie Intondi of Lakeport, Palma (Gary) Sheer of Syracuse and Louis (Cindy) Intondi of Lakeport; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Carmella DiBello; several nieces and nephews. Harold was employed as a cardiologist assistant at University Hospital and previously worked at Crouse and St. Joseph's hospitals. He also had a degree inaccounting. He was predeceased by his father, Harold J. Lang, and his stepfather, Edward Howell. She married William "Mer" Robinson on November 17, 1945; he died on June 21, 1993. She was a member of Russell Tryon Post #1535 American Legion Auxiliary. He worked for the family's paving company, John Schultz & Sons, before forming his own international marketing firm, Schultz & Associates, which began locally and spread to 28 countries. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Minoa, and a member of Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid SU fan and enjoyed movies and golfing with friends. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
