She was employed by the Onondaga County Dept. of Social Services for 30 years, retiring in 1973. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1979, and two brothers, Nicholas and Alfred DiStaola. Celke, 93, died Wednesday at James Square Nursing Home where he was under the care of Hospice of CNY. He was a longtime resident of the Valley area on the south side of Syracuse. He spent 51 years as an executive in the bus transportation industry, first with the Greyhound Corp., and later with Syracuse & Oswego Coach Lines. He was a member of the original group that founded and established the Intercity Bus Association of New York State and served as its president from 1952-1959. He retired in 1980. He will be forever remembered for his great love and devotion to his family and friends as well as a lifetime of dedicated service to the Syracuse community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Zena A. Celke, in 1999. Survivors include his son, Erick M. Celke of Syracuse; his daughter, Alexandra C. Gurewitch, Morton July 13, 2005 Morton Gurewitch of Skaneateles, NY, former professor of English at Brown University and SUNY-Cortland, has died at 83. His love of language and incisive wit live on through his sons, Laurent Gurewitch of Manchester, NY, Noel Gurewitch of Bloomfield, NJ, their wives, Rita and Louise; his grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas, Noelle, Eric, Daniel; and great-grandson, Aeon. Born in the Bronx, Morton graduated Valedictorian of City College of New York, served in World War II, received a Phd. from Columbia, and wrote three books on comedy in literature. He was married to the beautiful and formidable Micheline Martin, who died in 1998. Morton took delight in walking, swimming, and the country of France, and esteemed the company of cats. She was a RN, employed by Crouse Hospital for 22 years. Retiring in 1980, Mrs. Hewitt was a member of North Syracuse Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Karen StJean of N. Kehoe, William C. July 13, 2005 William C. Kehoe, 67, of Oregon, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at the Auburn Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Mr. Kehoe had been visiting relatives in Auburn prior to his death. Mr. Kehoe was born in Syracuse. He was the son of the late Carleton and Mary Shaughnessy Kehoe. Mr. Kehoe had resided in Oregon for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School, a graduate of Le Moyne College, and earned a law degree at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. Mr. Kehoe was a member of the Air Force National Guard at Hancock Field, Syracuse, and was called into active duty during the Berlin Crisis. After moving to Oregon, Bill was employed as a human resource director with Cascade Corporation. Following retirement, he was employed as a bus driver for the Oregon Episcopal School. Bill is survived by his family, his daughter Kara Merchant of Oregon; his sons, William S. of Washington and Michael of Oregon; his grandchildren, Nick and Nate Merchant, Audrey Kehoe, Clay and Sarah Kehoe; his sister, Margaret "Peg" Hassett of Auburn; his brother, Carl Kehoe of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. She was active for many years in the Valley Babe Ruth Baseball League. Midge loved spending time with her family, and everyone who ever met her loved her and knew that she was one of the greatest cooks who ever lived. Tomeny, Frances July 14, 2005 Frances Tomeny, 89, of North Syracuse, died in Syracuse on Thursday, July 14, 2005, surrounded by her family. Frances was a graduate of Eastwood High School. Later she became a member of the Eastwood High Alumni Association. Frances graduated from the Hospital of Good Shepherd School of Nursing in 1938. Frances worked for Upstate Medical Center Pediatrics Research Unit where she retired in 1972. She was a nurse for the late Dr. Frank Dee Williams of Cicero. When Frances retired from the hospital, she went to work for the North Syracuse School District as a school nurse. Frances also knitted hundreds of hats for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Hospital. She was also a volunteer for the North Area Adult Respite Center and a member of their advisory board. Frances is a member of the Episcopal Church of St. Mark the Evangelist. She was a former member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in North Syracuse where she was a church school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, and flower directoress for 15 years. Frances was predeceased by her husband Robert B., her parents, Edward and Eunice Bierman, and her brother, George Bierman. Survivors: three sons, Robert F. (Margaret) of North Syracuse, John E. (Jeanne) of Liverpool, William F. (Maureen) of Baldwinsville; two daughters, Saragrace "Sally" (Wayne) Tullar and Patricia (James) Van-Auken, both of Clay; two brothers, Edward Bierman Jr. of East Syracuse and John (Mariam) Bierman of Mexico, NY; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
