Born in Black River, NY, he worked for General Electric for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. Douglas Hinman, 83, of 1948 Seneca Street, Romulus, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 3, 2005, at Geneva General Hospital. Mr. Hinman was born in Romulus, the son of Francis and Leona Yerkes Hinman. He lived in the Romulus area all his life. Doug and his wife, Jean Christopher Hinman, were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1942. He was a life member of the Romulus Fire Dept., a 58-year member of the Fayette Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. #539, past state Chaplain of the Empire State Grotto Association, a former licensed lay reader in the Episcopal church, a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Willard, former retired Town Justice in the town of Romulus and past president of the Mount Green Cemetery Association. Doug was very active in Boy Scouts. He retired from Gould Pumps as a foreman in the Receiving Dept. after 34 years of service in 1984, spending winters in Florida since that time. Doug and his wife, Jean, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this Thanksgiving. He is survived by his wife, Jean Christopher Hinman; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; great-great-nieces and -nephews; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Hinman and Mary Christopher Mosher. Irish, 75, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. Born in Syracuse to Stanley and Mildred, Gene Irish attended Long Island A&T Institute at Farm-ingdale. Gene has been well known since the early 1950s as a local contractor with professional affiliations including past president of General Building Contractors of New York State, Associated General Contractors of America, as well as serving on the Advisory Board of SUNY Delhi College. Since 1975, Gene has served as an arbitrator and mediator for American Arbitration Association on numerous construction-related disputes. Gene was also an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry as well as being instrumental in the development of St. David's Court, a residence community for the physically impaired. Gene lived life to the fullest and touched many lives. Gene's passion was sailing, and he spent many summers aboard "Blue Goose" in Henderson Harbor. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Terry; son, David (Debbie) Irish; grandson Christopher Irish; Heather and Vanessa Rosenbaum, Dottie Irish, John and Denise Mako, Randy, Matt, John, Tim, Jenny and Greg Irish; and numerous special friends and acquaintances. Born in Syracuse to the late Newton James Filkins Sr. and Ethel Chapman Filkins, she worked for Curry's Cafeteria, Tobin'sRestaurant, Syracuse China and Camillus Cutlery. She worked for GE for 41 years, retiring in 1989. She became a charter member of Local 320 IUE-AFL-CIO in 1949, attended Ida Benderson Senior Citizens and was a former volunteer at Loretto Rest. She was predeceased by her brothers Newton in 1963, James in 1996 and Ernest in 2003. A sophomore at Fabius-Pompey, he was active in the chorus, participating in many of the school's productions. He was a member of the junior varsity baseball team and the floor hockey team and was a Boy Scout. Michael was an avid skier and enjoyed four-wheeling. He loved to go camping with his friends. Surviving are his parents, Donald and Johanna; his sister, Luca, and brother, Josh; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Betty Verhoeven; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Ryan, Kelley Marie June 4, 2005 Kelley Marie Ryan, 26, of Cicero, passed away Saturday at Crouse Hospital after suffering complications of juvenile diabetes. Born in Syracuse, she was a 1997 graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School. She attended O.C.C. for nursing andworked briefly at University Hospital in radiology. Kelley loved to watch the Food Network, cook and eat. She also loved camping, canoeing and spending time with family. Shaw of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Pulaski, died Thursday, June 2, at Broward General Medical Center in Florida. He was born July 13, 1948, in Pulaski, son of Thomas and Helen Shaw, and attended Pulaski Schools. He was a member of the Pulaski Ringold Fire Dept. and was a former member of Pulaski VFW Post 7289 and the American Legion Post 358. He joined the Marines in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. He moved to Florida in 1985. He was a forklift operator. He worked at Syracuse Candle Factory, Grandma Brown's Baked Beans in Mexico and also drove a school bus for Mexico School District and drove for Ontario Tire in Sandy Creek. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas M. Shaw Jr.; his mother, Helen F. Shaw; and his brother Claude A. Shaw. Surviving are two sons, Edwin M. Shaw, GA, and Dennis M. Shaw, Mexico; three brothers: Thomas M. Shaw III, Pulaski; Merton R. Shaw, Solvay; and Earl E. Shaw, Richland; five sisters: Nancy J. Wood, Syracuse; Linda L. Zayown, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Judy L. June 3, 2005 Francis W. Winker, 85, of 317 Grand St., Oneida, died Friday in St. Luke's Health Center, New Hartford. He was born in Oneida and was a life resident. He married the former Eleanor Dunn on October 7, 1946. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Oneida in 1981, after 30 years. Mr. Winker was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a member of St. Joseph Church of Oneida, where he served as a lector and usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. Winker was also a member of the E. Bart Hanifin Council #473, Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; one son, Frank Winker of Oneida; two grandchildren, Mark (Kate) Winker and Mary Winker; one sister-in-law, Rose Winker of Oneida; one brother-in-law, Matt Dunn, and his companion, Bernice Frear; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Jane Winker, and two brothers, Joseph and Albert. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Oneida.
