He was an ironworer with Local #60 for 21 years, retiring in 1990 due to disability. He was aVietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert John Banuski, on January 13,1970. Barnell, Daniel F. February 3, 2005 Daniel F. Barnell passed away at University Hospital in Syracuse on February 3, 2005, at the age of 90. Dan was born January 10, 1915, in Syracuse. He lived in the area for most of his life, residing in Colorado for a few years after retirement. Dan worked for Brown-Lipe-Chapin during the 1940s and early '50s, taking 2-1/2 years out to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also worked for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, retiring in 1978. Dan was a member of the American Legion Eastwood Post 1276, the Eastwood Senior Citizens' Center and the Italian American Athletic Club. He enjoyed SU football and basketball, fishing on the Salmon River, traveling to Canada and Las Vegas with friends, visiting his children in CA and CO, and spending time with his many friends and family. Born on September 17, 1941, in Syracuse, Bob was a longtime resident of Cicero before moving to Parish in 1993 where he was self employed in logging and millingof hardwood. He was a devoted father who was always involved in his children's activities. In addition to coaching many of their little league teams, he served as president of their Pop Warner Football League for many years. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed. "Debbie" June 3, 2005 Debra (Dems) Emmi, 47, of Montario Point and Syracuse, passed on recently after a long illness. Debbie grew up on LeMoyne Avenue and had many north side friends. She graduated from Henninger High in 1976. She lived in Pompano Beach, Florida, for several years. She returned to Syracuse and worked 20 years at Royal Insurance. She married Richard J. Emmi in 1982. Debbie is survived by her mother, Sally (Glasier) Dems, and her brother, Jeffrey Dems, both of Syracuse; her aunt, Connie Dems; her uncle, Jack Glasier (Vicky); and cousins. Her husband, Rick, died last July 2. Her father, Herman Dems, also predeceased her. Lissa, Sylvia Sokolowski May 1, 2005 Sylvia Sokolowski Lissa, 101, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away May 1, 2005. She was born June 15, 1903, the daughter of Anna and Joseph Sokolowski in Pittsburgh, PA. The family moved to Syracuse, NY, in 1907, where she lived most of her lifeuntil moving to Florida in the 1970s. Sylvia is predeceased by her husbands, George Salinett (1962), Harry E. Metcalf (1980) and Charles Lissa (2003) as well as four sisters and one brother. Sylvia received a B.A. in sociology in 1929 and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 1993 from American International College (AIC) in Springfield, MA. Sylvia was a social worker, a Red Cross nurse's aide and a Girl Scout organizer. She was an accomplished figure skater and a tournament bridge player who attained her Golden Age Masters. She loved swimming and did so daily until the age of 99. She was an avid golfer who won club championships at three country clubs in Syracuse. Sylvia organized the first junior golfers in Onondaga County in 1950 at the Bellevue Country Club. Sylvia was a generous supporter of DAR scholarships after receiving one from them to attend AIC in 1925. DAR awarded her a Good Citizen Award in 1942 for her many hours of volunteer work. Sylvia supported many educational projects. She set up endowed scholarships at AIC and also at Western Reserve Academy and Case University, both of Cleveland, OH. Thirty-eight grandnieces and -nephews benefited from her "Aunt Sylvia's Scholarship Fund." At AIC she sponsored the International Room, the Falconer Health and Fitness Center, the Sokolowski Tower, the Lissa Building and the Harry E. Metcalf Gymnasium. Churches of different denominations in Florida and New York benefited with towers, bells, murals, a baptismal font, statues and stained glass windows. Sylvia loved to travel the globe and was always planning a cruise or a tour. She also enjoyed taking all her sisters to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and Las Vegas. Sylvia was a wonderful lady who will truly be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a sister, Marie Marko of Syracuse; 14 nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and -nephews. Richardson, 75, of Baldwinsville, died Friday at the VA Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy. He received his undergraduate degree from Empire State College/SUNYand his MBA from Mercer University in Atlanta. He was a disabled Army veteran of the Korean War era and a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Baldwinsville. He lived most of his life in the Central New York area, retiring in 1987 after 36 years with Carrier Corporation. Before his retirement, he was a member of the Carrier Management Association and a volunteer with Junior Achievement and Liverpool Little League. After retiring from Carrier, he worked with the Carrier distributor in Georgia, Syracuse Executive Air Services and was an instructor at Empire State College. He was also the owner of Radisson Tax Service. He was a member of American Legion Post 113 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30, the Carrier Retirees Association and the Canton Woods Seniors. She taught at Fairmount Grammar School and served as principal of the newly opened Onondaga Road School until her retirement in 1976. Miss Smith was a member of the Camillus Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past District Deputy Grand Matron for the state of New York. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers' Assn., Camillus Women's Republican Club, Camillus Business and Professional Women's Org., Camillus Teachers' Retirement Assn., Delta Kappa Gamma and honorary member of the Fairmount Merry Widows' Luncheon. Dean Wallace, 86, of Solvay, died Friday, June 10, at Crouse Hospital. Born September 1, 1918, to Miriam Hallett and William Dortch Wallace in Syracuse, Mr. Wallace lived his early life in Camillus, where he was the town's first Eagle Scoutand graduated valedictorian of the class of 1935. He was also valedictorian of the Northwood School, Lake Placid, NY, in 1936. He graduated from Cornell University in 1940 with a mechanical engineering degree and was a member of Tau Beta Pi society. He joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity and was manager of Cornell's undefeated 1939 football team. Mr. Wallace left Camillus Cutlery Company to serve as an officer in the Navy, where he captained an LCS in the Pacific. He returned to the company in 1946 and retired after 54 years. Mr. Wallace rose to Senior Warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was also a 60-year member of Onondaga Country Club. He supported numerous charities and enjoyed the symphony, opera, Syracuse-area history, especially the Erie Canal and local railroad transportation systems. He played tennis and golf regularly until he was 85. Mr. Wallace married Elizabeth Louise Hopkins of Geneseo, NY, November 15, 1941, and was married 60 years. He is survived by two sons, W. Dean Jr. and Charles Hopkins Wallace; a daughter, Elizabeth Cummins (Douglas); grandchildren: Emily Angel (Patrick), Sarah Gajewski (Tomasz), Annie Cummins, Anthony Charles Wallace; great-grandson, Riley Gajewski; one brother, Dr. Robert Bruce Wallace (Sherry); and one sister, Sally Wallace Murray (Kenneth). Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd. East. Private services and burial will be held at Ticonderoga, NY, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Crouse Health Foundation for the Natrecor Clinic on 4 North at 736 Irving Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210. Wimer, 79, of Marathon, NY, originally from the Cuyler area, died June 9, 2005, at his home following a long illness. He retired from Smith Corona in the early '80s. He is survived by three daughters: Alene Wimer-Vogt of Marathon, Sherry Wimer of New Woodstock and Lynda Wimer-Wright of Syracuse; a son, Jeffery Wimer of New Woodstock; a sister, Alene Bronson of Marathon; eight stepchildren; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothea M. Wimer, in 2001; son, Randy Wimer in 1969; and two grandsons, Randy Wimer in 1991 and Gordon Craw in 1999. Friends may call Monday, June 13, 1005, from 10 a.m. to noon at Grace Christian Fellowship Church (formerly First Baptist Church of Homer), Cortland, NY.
