He was the founder and pastor of New Covenant Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Forest Ad-ams. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 43 years, Sheirlean Adams of Syracuse; two daughters, Terri Sampson (Tim) and Lorri Hudson (Otis) both of Syracuse; three sons, Samuel D. Adams (Angela) and Christopher P. Adams both of Syracuse and Daniel C. Adams (Mara) of Pittsburgh, PA; one sister, Carrie Nellons of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson. Barry, 52, of Syracuse, died Tuesday at home. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse University, and the University of Alabama. He served as a Lieutenant with the Manlius Police Depart-ment, was the Administrative Division Commander, and a member of the Emergency Services Team. He was in law enforcement for 30 years, was the 3rd Vice President of the FBI National Academy Association, and had previously taught at Onondaga Community College in the Criminal Justice Program. Kevin was the recipient of numerous commendations and awards. He was predeceased by his parents, William Barry in 1986, Patricia Flynn Barry in 1988, and his sister Kelly Ann Barry in 1992. Survivors: his aunt, Jeanne Flynn; uncles, James and Robert Flynn, all of Syracuse; cousins, G. Behan, Mary Eileen March 6, 2005 Mary Eileen Behan, beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Behan, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Charlotte, NC, after a long illness. Formerly of Kenmore, NY, Chagrin Falls, OH, and Juno Beach, FL. Mrs. Behan was born in Syra-cuse, NY, on December 20, 1919, to James and Mary (Kinsella) Hayes. She was a homemaker, retired with her husband of 46 years to Juno Beach in 1976. Mrs. Behan served as a dedicated volunteer of the Jupiter Florida Medical Center for 15 years. Mr. Behan preceded her in death in 1995. Since 2001, Mrs. Behan received the loving care of her daughter, Eileen Marie, at her home in Charlotte, NC. In addition to Eileen, daughters Mary Patricia (Todd) Elliott of Tulsa, OK, Margaret (Peggy) Ann (Joseph) McDonald of Cleveland, OH, and son Thomas J. (Kathleen) Behan of Buffalo, NY, survive Mrs. Behan. Bovenzi, Mary Stella March 7, 2005 Mary Stella Bovenzi, 86, of Syracuse, went to God Monday, peacefully leaving her loving family for her place in Heaven. Born in Syracuse, she was a teacher for 42 years with many hundreds of students at Brighton and HuntingtonSchools. Devoted to her extended family, Mary was an avid traveler, especially to her roots in Italy. In retirement, she volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Daniel's School. A communicant of St. Peter's Church, she is survived by her sisters, Anna D'Agostino, Josephine Benedetto and Clara Santy; brother, Peter Bovenzi of Wynantskill, NY and many nieces and nephews. March 8, 2005 Leonard A. Dems, 73, of Solvay, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday after a long walk with cancer. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Vocational High School and attended Central Tech for tool and dye making. He was a tool and dyemaker and model maker for R.E. Dietz for 37 years and Cryomech Inc. Previously, he was employed by J.M. Wall Camera and Carrier Corp. After retirement he continued his trade with Car-Com Services. Leonard was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Stephen's Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the State Magistrate's Association, Knights of Columbus #6282, an adult leader of Boy Scout Troop 76, Solvay-Geddes Veterans and the VFW Pennock Post. He was a magistrate for 27 years for the village of Solvay. He served his country with pride in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a lifelong resident of East Syracuse. He retired from the Penn Central Railroad as a brakeman. Marine Corps veteran serving in Korea, he re-ceived the Korean Service Medal with one battle star. He was a former member of the Arthur Butler American Legion Post 359. His wife Barbara died in 1983. Friers, 86, of Oneida, formerly of Fultonville, NY, died Tuesday, March 8 at Stonehedge Nursing Home in Rome, NY. Born in Fultonville on May 1, 1918 a son of Elijah "Jack" and Grace Magley Friers. He resided in Fultonville until 1969 when he moved to Oneida. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Friers worked for over 33 years for the New York State Thruway Authority as Toll Division Supervisor until retiring in 1978. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his love of the outdoors. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred, who died in 1973. He remarried and was predeceased by his wife, Joyce in 2004. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Friers who died in 2004. Survivors include, one son, William Friers and his wife, Patricia of Syracuse, NY; one sister, Bessie Butler of Scotia, NY; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Friers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Mary Stream and her husband, Elton, Sue, Beth, Carol, Laura, Jim, Ed and Amy Friers; one great-grandson, Aspen Friers; many nieces and nephews also survive. She had just completed paralegal studies at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1983, when she was the victim of a tragic car crash that cut short her short life. Jill was devot-ed to her nieces and nephews and loved life to the fullest. She was predeceased by her mother, Rosemary Mackey in 2000. Jill is survived by her father, Clement P. Ritelis, Edgars March 6, 2005 Edgars Ritelis, 97, died March 6, 2005. He was born June 1, 1907, in Latvia where he was Assistant Station Master for the railroads. He emigrated to the United States in 1949 with his family. He worked for General Motors for 25 years. He is survived by his son, Andris Ritelis of McLean, VA; and daughter, Inta Rigdon of LaFayette, NY; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Velta A. in 2000. Born October 14, 1910, in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, Henrietta was the youngest of seven children born to Norwegian immigrants, Niels and Andrine Olsen. After graduating from high school, Henrietta attended and graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont. She married Wesley G. Smith on June 30, 1940. They lived in many places throughout the United States before settling in Mexico, NY, in 1965. Henrietta is a retired English and Latin teacher, having retired from Mexico High School in 1975. Henrietta was very active in her life to the end. She enjoyed swimming in the summer months in her backyard pool, playing her piano, and she especially enjoyed playing with and watching her great-grandson. She was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico. She led her Circle's Bible Study and participated in the Crafty Ladies. She was also a member of the Oswego County Retired Teachers. Survivors are her two sons, George (Susan Silliman) Smith of Mexico and Samuel (Judy) Smith of Granbury, Texas. A granddaughter, Annette Berry of Mexico, and great-grandson, Daniel Berry, also of Mexico, also survive. He was born on November 16, 1923 and raised by his parents, Raymond and Clara Smith in Pelham, New York. Herb was a US Marine veteran of WWII. In 1946 he moved to Syracuse withhis wife and daughter, beginning a long career in manufacturing and human resources at Bristol Laboratories. In 1956, he graduated from Syracuse University and by 1959 he had four children. He retired from Bristol in 1982. Herb was active in the former Trinity Episcopal Church in Syracuse, the Quarter Century Club (Bristol), the Board of Directors at the SU Alumni Club of CNY and the East Side Racquet Club. He loved golf, tennis, skiing and enjoyed numerous activities.
