Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse University, and the University of Alabama. He served as a Lieutenant with the Manlius Police Depart-ment, was the Administrative Division Commander, and a member of the Emergency Services Team. He was in law enforcement for 30 years, was the 3rd Vice President of the FBI National Academy Association, and had previously taught at Onondaga Community College in the Criminal Justice Program. Kevin was the recipient of numerous commendations and awards. He was predeceased by his parents, William Barry in 1986, Patricia Flynn Barry in 1988, and his sister Kelly Ann Barry in 1992. Survivors: his aunt, Jeanne Flynn; uncles, James and Robert Flynn, all of Syracuse; cousins, G. Bovenzi, Mary Stella March 7, 2005 Mary Stella Bovenzi, 86, of Syracuse, went to God Monday, peacefully leaving her loving family for her place in Heaven. Born in Syracuse, she was a teacher for 42 years with many hundreds of students at Brighton and HuntingtonSchools. Devoted to her extended family, Mary was an avid traveler, especially to her roots in Italy. In retirement, she volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Daniel's School. Field, Arthur March 9, 2005 Arthur Field, 91, died Wednesday at the Jewish Home of Menorah Park. Mr. Field was born in Brooklyn, where he graduated from Brooklyn College and attended Brooklyn Law School. He served in the Army during World War II. After movingto Syracuse, Mr. Field founded the Ace Home Equipment Company in 1947 and remained until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, Philo-Mt. Sinai Lodge #968, Jewish War Veterans Onondaga Post 131, former Commander of Jewish War Veterans and founder of the Syracuse Landlords Association. Born in Owego, Mrs. Fralick lived in Syracuse and Onondaga Hill before moving to Camillus. She was the widow of Charles A. Fralick who died in 1988. Mrs. Fralick was employed for 45 years with Dunn & Bradstreet, Inc. in Syracuse before retiring in 1982. She is survived by nieces and nephews. March 7, 2005 Mrs. Laura Doris Gilmore, died on Monday surrounded by family and friends at Francis House. She was 79 years young. Ms. D, as she was warmly called, resided at 121 Hudson Street, after having retired as housekeeper to the actress KimBasinger for many, many years. Grandma, as she was known by her grandchildren, extended grandchildren and neighbors, was born in Provincetown, MA, Cape Cod, where she graduated from Provincetown HS. She was a member of the Brady Faith Center where she was fully involved in the Women's Bible Study group. She was a member of St. Lucy's Church. She is survived by her brother, Edgar P. Edwards (Rosalyn), of Greensboro, NC; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Muriel Edwards, of New York City; her daughter, Jeannette Edwards-Griffin, Syracuse; grandchildren, Monica, Stephanie, Lara Griffin, Akiva Titus Hadley, Sgt. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Transfiguration School and was a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad until his retirement in 1972. He was a communicant of ImmaculateHeart of Mary Church where he was an Usher. He served his country with pride in the US Army during WWII. Mackin, formerly of 159 Willow Place, Sherrill, New York, died peacefully at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse on March 10, 2005, where he had been a recent patient. Born in Boston, Mr. Mackin moved to Oneida as a young man where he met his belovedwife of 60 years, Joyce Virginia Ratnour. Following Mrs. Mackin's death in 1997, Bill continued to reside in the family home in Sherrill until moving to The Nottingham in Jamesville in 2002. Bill was employed with the Prudential Insurance Company for nearly 40 years. In 1968, he was elected as supervisor of the Town of Vernon, a position he held for six elected terms until retiring in 1979. Throughout his life, he was very active in the civic affairs of the City of Sherrill, and was dedicated to serving the community he loved. Among his many achievements, he served as a Sherrill City Commissioner, president of the Silver City Club, and founder of some of the city's sports leagues for children. He was the recipient of the American Legion's Distinguished Citizen Award, an Honorary Rotarian, and also a member of many local charitable boards and clubs. He was a communicant of St. Helena's Church for nearly 60 years, and past president of its Holy Name Society. He was a very friendly, conscientious and caring person, who was blessed to have many friends of all ages and from all walks of life. His favorite "hobby" was helping and enjoying the company of other people. He is survived by his two sons, John (Donna), a retired U.S. Navy Captain, living in Kissimmee, Florida, and James, an attorney who practices with the Syracuse law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King, and lives in Manlius, New York; three grandchildren, John, Jill and Jeff; and nine great-grandchildren. Shewas a bookkeeper and had formerly worked at Royal Electric and at the County Board of Elections after her retirement. He was born on November 16, 1923 and raised by his parents, Raymond and Clara Smith in Pelham, New York. Herb was a US Marine veteran of WWII. In 1946 he moved to Syracuse withhis wife and daughter, beginning a long career in manufacturing and human resources at Bristol Laboratories. In 1956, he graduated from Syracuse University and by 1959 he had four children. He retired from Bristol in 1982. Herb was active in the former Trinity Episcopal Church in Syracuse, the Quarter Century Club (Bristol), the Board of Directors at the SU Alumni Club of CNY and the East Side Racquet Club. He loved golf, tennis, skiing and enjoyed numerous activities. Survivors: his wife of 22 years, Celeste Carmack Smith; his children, Pamela and Joseph Piraino, Herbert and Sally Smith, Jr., David and Lorraine Smith, Christopher and Laura Smith; grandchildren, Janet Claudfelter, Andrew and David Smith, Steven and Jessica Smith; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Brooke Claudfelter; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Barbara Smith and several nephews and a niece.
