Carr, 87, of The Valley, died Sunday at Community General Hospital. Born in Plattsburgh, he was a graduate of University of Maine at Bangor. He taught journalism at Onondaga Community College and worked with the South Side News. He retired as an editor with The Post-Standard in 1998 after 39 years. He was previously managing editor of The Press Republican in Plattsburgh. Two years after joining The Post-Standard, George became assistant state editor. He later was night city editor for six years. He was promoted to state editor in 1978. He later worked as an editor on the sports desk until he retired as a full-time employee in 1983. For the next 15 years he worked part time on the sports desk, retiring in 1998, shortly after his 80th birthday. He enjoyed traveling and summers at Lake Champlain and winters at Anna Maria Island, Fla. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Carr in 1993. George is survived by his wife, the former Jean Mehan; three daughters and son-in-law, Corrie Lopipero of Camillus, Barbara Carr of Liverpool and Kimberly (Eric) Broeker of Cicero; two sons, William G. She retired in 1965 after a teaching career spanning 37 years with the Elbridge Central School and the Jordan-Elbridge School Districts. Jessie was a member of Elbridge Community Church. She was a former church Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of NYS Retired Teachers' Association.
