Bajjaly, Kamel Mitri March 18, 2005 Kamel Mitri Bajjaly, 86, died peacefully Friday morning surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband and father and a highly respected business owner. He was born in 1918 in Haifa, Palestine, and immigrated to Syracuse in 1956.He owned and operated The Beverage Baron, Students Choice Foods and Valley Dairy grocery stores. He was a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church. Through his commitment to the community, he touched many lives. He always greeted his customers with "Hello my Friend" and meant it from his heart. He will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Elvira Majlaton; three daughters: Susie Abboud, Annette Habayeb and Jackie Bajjaly; two sons, Nabil and Tony Bajjaly; a sister, Massara Ashkar; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Boyd, Frances (Riddle) March 18, 2005 Frances (Riddle) Boyd, 84, of Jamesville, passed away Friday at the Nottingham following a long illness. A native of Columbia, SC, she lived in Richmond, VA, and Raleigh, NC, before moving to Syracuse. Frances was a graduate of Queens Collegein Charlotte, NC, and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. John B. Boyd, and her parents, the Rev. F. Ray Riddle and Fannie Chandler Riddle. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. J. Barron Boyd Jr. and Elizabeth A. Salvagno of Syracuse. She is also survived by two brothers, the Rev. F. Carpenter, Thomas W. March 17, 2005 Thomas W. Carpenter, 68, of Debary, FL, succumbed to complications of cancer on March 17, 2005. Mr. Carpenter was a 40-year retiree of IBEW Local 910. He was born in Springfield, MA, and resided in Putney, VT, and Pulaski, NY, until his retirement in 1996 to Debary, FL. Mr. Carpenter was a volunteer of the Ringgold Fire Co. of Pulaski, retiring after 20 years of service, a member of the Pulaski Masons, Scottish Rite, Media Shrine Club of Watertown and a past member of the Oswego County Shrine Bike Patrol, Oswego Elks Club and the Pulaski Lions Club. Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of St. Mary's College in South Bend,IN, where she received the inaugural Outstanding Alumni Award, and received a master's degreee in education from Syracuse University. She was a fifth-grade teacher in the Chittenango Central School District in the 1960s. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango, where she volunteered for the bereavement luncheons. She was an honorary member of the Chittenango Rotary Club, the Chittenango Garden Club and the Embroidery Guild. Kennedy, William March 18, 2005 William "Charles" Kennedy, 93, formerly of Minetto, entered into Eternal Rest on March 18, 2005, at Seneca Hill Manor. He was the son of the late Morris and Martha Albertina Kath Kennedy. He served in the political office as Justice of the Peace and later as the town supervisor for the town of Volney. He worked at Columbia Mills for 15 years and Sealright in Fulton for 10 years. His grandsons gave him a "special award" for being the most faithful spectator at their sports events. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and woodworking. Mr. Kennedy was predeceased by his wife, Capitola Stevens Kennedy, in December 2004. Nugent Sr., Henry C. March 17, 2005 Henry C. Nugent, 84, of Baldwinsville, died Thursday at the VA Medical Center after a long illness. He was a life resident of the Syracuse area. Henry was the executive housekeeper for Community General Hospital for over 20 years, retiringin 1982. He was an active member of the Executive Housekeepers Association. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 191. He was an active member of the VFW, Baldwinsville Post 5540. Henry was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946. He was an active member of the Sixth Marine Division Association, Inc., 1st Provisional Brigade and traveled extensively with them. He was also an avid golfer. He was predeceased by his wife Genevieve in 1982, his son Michael in 2002 and his grandson Michael Maslyn in 1999. "Skippy" Skinner, 56, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully with family by his side March 12 at the Veterans Hospital. Skippy grew up in Brownville, NY, and graduated from Rockland High School in 1967. Truex Jr., 84, of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, March 18, at Community General Hospital. Born in Auburn, NY, he was a Syracuse resident for 47 years and was a member of Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church. A decorated WWIIveteran, he served in the European Theatre in 1944. Truex attended Syracuse University following WWII and was an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He also sang with the American Legion chorus. Upon graduation, he joined the Syracuse Supply Company, where he worked in management for 35 years. An avid outdoorsman in his youth, he passed his love of skiing, hiking, camping and water sports to his children. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage in Ontario, Canada, and winters at his residence in Venice, FL, with friends and family. Duane Truex was a loyal and honest friend, and a strong, loving, generous and giving father and husband. He was the wind beneath our wings, our guide, our confidant, our strength and our role model. His physical presence in our daily lives will be sorely missed, but his indomitable spirit will live in us until the end of our days. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Ricketts Truex; a sister, Ruth Truex Mills of Auburn, NY; four children: Duane III, Deborah, Diane and Donna; 10 grandchildren: Adriane, D. In Syracuse, she helped care forher grandchildren and was a member of the DeWitt Recreation Generation and the Jewish Community Center. Vecchiarelli, 83, of Lakeland, was called by his Father in Heaven Friday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a native of Syracuse and was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church. Mr. Vecchiarelli retired in 1983 from the U.S. Postal Serviceand was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 134. Joe was a veteran of WWII U.S. Air Force, serving in China-Burma-India. His wife of 58 years, Lucy Delperuto Vecchiarelli, died June 26, 2004.
