Burgess March 21, 2005 Christine F. Burgess, 81, of Kirsch Dr., Mattydale, died Monday at Crouse Hospital. A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Burgess resided in Mattydale for the past 56 years. She worked in the engineering department of the General Electric Co. for 10 years in the 1950's and later was a cafeteria worker at the Roxboro Middle School in Mattydale for several years. She enjoyed bowling and loved to cook and make a loving home for her family. She was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and attended Our Lady of Pompeii Church. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Prayer Group. Surviving are her husband of more than 50 years, Frank Burgess; a daughter, Maria Burgess of Nedrow; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne (Lori) Burgess of North Syracuse; two sisters, Lucille Pandozzi of Westvale, Susan DiOrio of Lyncourt; two brothers, Frank DiOrio of Liverpool, Thomas DiOrio of Eastwood; three grandchildren, Renee', Lauren, Nicholas Burgess; several nieces and nephews including Fr. Cunningham, 57, of Marcellus, died Tuesday at University Hospital. Born in Auburn he was a longtime resident of the Marcellus area. He was a graduate of Syracuse University E.S.F. He started working for Onondaga County in 1970in the Planning Agency as a research tech then a landscape architect before becoming Deputy Planning Director. While as Deputy Director he was the project manager for the ON Center project then worked on the Stadium project before becoming Planning Director. As Director he was the director of the Onondaga Lake Improvement Office. Survivors: His wife of 35 years the former, Martha Bartlett; two daughters, Shannon (Matthew Ertzinger) Cunningham of Portland, Oregon and Stacy (Kevin) Finnie of Syracuse; his sister, Cathy (Thomas) Tarby of Auburn; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Hanson, Donald Carl March 21, 2005 Donald Carl Hanson, 74, a resident of Onondaga Hill, died March 21 at home. Mr. Hanson was born in Chicago, and was a graduate of Wheaton College and McCormick Seminary in Illinois. A former Presbyterian minister, he served churches in Illi-nois, Minnesota and Syracuse, from 1956 to 1968. Following the ministry, he retired from sales in the Syracuse area. Mr. Hanson was a former member of the Syracuse Rotarians and a Boy Scout leader for many years. A true Renaissance man, Don was an avid gardener, master wood craftsman, lover of fine art symphony music, jazz, opera and good books. Throughout his 3-year illness, he maintained his extraordinary sense of humor and lived with grace and dignity. He was predeceased by his son, Craig, in 1990. He is survived by wife of 51 years, Marilyn Stites Hanson; son, Brian, daughter-in-law, Barbara; their sons, Blair and Reid, of Fayetteville; son, Steven, of Newark, DE; daughter, Nancy, son-in-law, Rich Kelly, and their daughters, Brianna and Jordan of Canastota. Mr. Mahan grew up in Marcellus and was stationed throughout the U.S. and abroad during his Army career before moving to Mattydale in 1967. He retired from the Army as a Sergeant 1st class after 20 years of service which included tours of duty in Europe and Asia during WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars. Since then he worked as an engineer for Conrail for over 25 years. He was a member of St. Margaret's Church, the VFW Post 3146 and the American Legion Post 1832, all in Mattydale. Ed was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Harrison and Mary McGraw, and is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Ruth Kroher; a daughter, Patty Mahan of Lyncourt; two sons, Michael of Mattydale and Daniel of St. Petersburg FL; a sister, Aggie Hall of Clay; two brothers, James of Pinellas Park, FL, and Joseph of Tampa, FL; a grandson, Dalton Mahan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. "Ernie" March 20, 2005 Ernest E. "Ernie" Miller, 93, of Altmar, formerly of Fulton, died Sunday. A native of Syracuse, Ernie resided in Fulton many years before moving to live in Altmar. He had owned and operated Fulton Typewriter Store in Fulton from 1947 until 1979. He previ-ously worked at Rome Air Force Base in Rome and Smith-Corona Company in Syracuse. He had attended Pine Meadows Wesleyan Church, Altmar. He was a member of Hiram Lodge 144, F.&A.M., Fulton; Fulton Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Lake Ontario Commandery; Media Shrine Center, Watertown; Oswego County Shriners Motor Patrol; and Oswego County Shriners Dixieland Band. Ernie was a former member and president of the Fulton Kiwanis Club; former chairman of the Office of Selective Service; and was a past president of the Oswego County Musicians' Union. He was well known locally as a saxophone player, performing at Tin Pan Galley Restaurant in Sackets Harbor and for former President Bill Clinton in Alexandria Bay. Ernie was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian Cluse Miller; daughter, Patricia Bevacqua; granddaughters, Christine Colucci and Cheryl Hanzlian. Petrus, Margaret March 22, 2005 Margaret Petrus, 89, of Meigs Rd., Baldwinsville, entered into rest at Crouse Hospital on March 22, 2005. She was born February 12, 1916, in Jessup, PA. She married Peter Petrus in June 1937. They moved to Syracuse in 1942. Margaret worked at Dey Bros. Department Store from 1946-1976. She retired in 1976, after 30 years of service. They moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ, in July of 1976, where husband Peter died on October 2, 2000. Margaret then moved back to the Syracuse area to live with her son R. Peter on October 5, 2001. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret Walker of Visalia, CA, and son, R. Peter (Nancy) of Phoenix, NY; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. At Margaret's request there will be no service or flowers. A private burial will be at the convenience of the family. He was a physical education teacher in Baldwinsville for 36 years, retiring in 1998. He coached Baldwinsville Men's Gymnastics for 34 years. Gary spent the past 28 summers working as the Director of Maintenance at Lourdes Camp. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Church, Baldwinsville. Gary was an avid motorcycle and sports enthusiast.
