April 28, 2005 Herbert T. Anderson, 96, died Thursday in Erie, PA. He was a WWII Marine veteran, a graduate of Notre Dame University, and studied law at Fordham University, graduating in 1933. Mr. Anderson was admitted to the Bar in 1934, and was a self-employed attorney from 1934 until 1947. He joined Edward Boyle in 1947, and the law firm was known as Boyle & Anderson. Mr. Anderson was Auburn City Clerk (1936-1940), City Attorney (1944-1952), and Mayor of Auburn (1956-1960). Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Gibson of NJ and Carol Engle of PA. Austin and Ethel Bateman Backus. He was an owner of the Oswego County Weeklies for over 50 years. He was a nationally known Holstein Auc-tioneer with R. Austin Backus Inc. of Mexico, NY. He served many years as a delegate of the National Holstein Convention. He was a member of the Holstein Association of New York State and on the national level. He was a member of the Oswego Country Club and The Elms Golf Course. He was a cryptographer during WWII in the Signal Corps. He attended Syracuse University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a member of The University Club of Syracuse. He was predeceased by two brothers, B. Olin Backus and Everet V. Hungerford, Charles April 28, 2005 Charles Hungerford, 83, formerly of Fulton, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon at Greenpoint Keepsake Village in Liverpool. He was predeceased in 2004 by his wife of 65 years, Alice Jane Yager Hungerford. A native of Gouverneur,Charles lived in Fulton most of his life. He was a 1939 graduate of Fulton High School. Charles and Jane raised six children in the family home that he built in Fulton while employed at Nestle Company. After working at Nestle for 30 years, the family moved to Florida, where Charles was a self-taught electrician for 20 years. In 1997, Charles and Jane moved to Smyrna, Delaware. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 875th Air Bourne Engineers Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Manzi Sr., 72, of Paul Ave., a lifetime resident of Syracuse, against the odds fought courageously with Parkinson's disease for 34 years and gently passed away April 30, 2005, to be reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Esther "Peggy" Manzi. Richard worked and operated a farm in Geneva and also was a lightweight professional boxer in his early years, before stricken with Parkinson's. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Prejean, 57, died at his home at the Skyline Apartments most unexpectedly on April 27, 2005, from a stroke. Following his 1966 graduation from Jamesville-DeWitt High School, James attended the University of Pennsyl-vania. James was well traveled, talented in art and schematic design, and was a gourmet cook. He conducted a popular catering business in Cazenovia, was co-founder of a variety store in Portland, Maine, in the late 1980s and owned a bed and breakfast on James Street in the 1990s. After several years in Westchester, James returned to Syracuse and especially enjoyed his years of work at the Supreme Court Law Library and thereafter at the Onondaga Historical Society. James Prejean will long be remembered for his volunteer service to Meals on Wheels. James was predeceased by his parents, Michael Prejean (1988) and Jane Dunn Prejean (2003). (Muratore) Traino, 96, a native and life resident of Syracuse, passed away Friday at the Jewish Home. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church and was the widow of Dominick Traino who died in 1975. She had been employedas a seamstress by Cohen & Goldman for 27 years and had also been employed by the Paramount Theatre for 15 years before retiring in 1965. She is survived by two nieces, Annette (Frank) Pallotta and family, of Syracuse; and Ann Marie Riciputo, of Syracuse. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Pompei Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Jewish Home of CNY. Mary Jo was a member of ABATE, along with the Harley Owners Association. She is survived by her daughter, Misty M. Curtis; her husband, Ron White of Louisiana; her brother, DennisCole; her life companion, Marshall F. Curtis; and her grandson, Orlando DeLuca Jr. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home. Her funeral service will follow at 7:30.
