Finn, Sherwood May 3, 2005 Sherwood Finn, 74, of Fayetteville and West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away at home peacefully with his family at his side. Mr. Finn was co-owner of Longley Jones Management Corporation, and together with his 47-year association with his partner, E. Carlyle Smith, created one of the largest real estate services firms in Upstate New York, currently employing approximately 500 employees. Under Mr. Finn's guidance, Longley Jones presently manages over 170 properties on a statewide basis. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1955, paid for by the GI bill as a result of serving two commissions in the Navy during the Korean War, serving as a helmsman aboard the USS Antietam and the USS Valley Forge, Mr. Finn began a brief occupation as a grade school teacher before embarking upon a career in real estate, joining Longley Jones in 1957 as a residential salesman. During the early years of Mr. Finn's employment, Longley Jones was structured solely as a residential sales company, and due to Mr. Finn's and his partner's ingenuity, perseverance and dedication to their employees, they expanded the company's scope of services to include commercial sales and leasing under the direction of CB Richard Ellis, Commercial/ Residential Property Management, Syracuse Securities Mortgage Bankers, Eljay Title & Abstract Co., Lonesco Construction, and Mercury Appraisal Company. Mr. Finn's dedication and affiliation to Syracuse University included serving as an advisor to both the Athletic Board and their international real estate holdings. Mr. Finn was a benefactor to Roswell Park Cancer Hospital. He also served a dual role as both advisor and benefactor to St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Finn was a past member for over 30 years of Lakeshore Country Club. He was also an active member of LaFayette Golf and Atlantis Country Club of West Palm Beach. Gillispie, Nelson Lee May 5, 2005 Nelson Lee Gillispie, 79, of Park Terrace at Radisson in Baldwinsville, died Thursday at the Community General Hospital. Born in Burnsville, WV, he was the son of the late Mae Duckworth and he was raised in the Cumberland, MD area by his grand-parents, the late Sarah and Henry Frame, Mr. Gillispie resided in several cities in the North-East including Oriskany and Endwell, NY, Baltimore and Cumberland, MD before moving to Baldwinsville one years ago. Lee was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theater and was involved in the Invasion of the Philippines. He graduated in 1949 from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired in 1989 after 17 years as an Electrical/Radar Engineer for General Electric in Utica and Binghamton. Prior to that he also worked for RCA and the Martin Co. His work involved Research and Development programs in the Heavy Military Division including the Early Warning Radar and Missile & Aviation guidance systems. Lee supported the Oriskany Historical Society and was involved with the 1st reenactment of the Battle of Oriskany. He served on the Oriskany School Board and was instrumental in the effort to maintain the autonomy of the Oriskany School District. He was a member of the Waterbury Memorial Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school there. He was an active Rotarian and participated in many Cub Scout activities. He also enjoyed camping, photography, carpentry and auto mechanics. His wife of 40 years, the former Ethel Louise Humphreys, died in 1990. He was also predeceased by a son, Daniel Gillispie in 1975; and a brother, John Duckworth. Surviving are two sons, Scott (Shelly) Gillispie of Cicero, Craig (Lori) Gillispie of New Providences, PA; a daughter-in-law, Verretta Gillispie of Oregon City, OR; nine grandchildren, Julie, Sheri, Karen, Kathy, Jenny, Jeremy, Joshua, Jordan, Marissa, Michaela; and seven great-grandchildren. Goolman, Lois E. May 4, 2005 Lois E. Goolman, 85, of Washington Twp., New Jersey, died on May 4, 2005. She was married to the late Lt. Colonel George V. Goolman, U.S. Army, retired. She is survived by her only child, Lynn Harpool, of Williamstown, New Jersey, and a brother, Asa Thomas and his family, of Phoenix, New York. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Mrs. Goolman lived for many years in Mount Holly and Fort Dix, New Jersey, and in Port Richey, Florida, as well as several overseas posts during her husband's military career.While living in Burlington County, she worked for many years as a dental assistant in Moorestown. She was the widow of Ivan Liddiard whodied in 1982. Mrs. Liddiard was formerly employed at the Elbridge Elementary School cafeteria, and she was a waitress at Krebs in Skaneateles and at the Camillus Country Club. She was a member of the Elbridge Community Church and a volunteer in Elbridge Thrift Shop. She was also a member of the J-E Senior Citizens, Port Byron Senior Citizens and the Elbridge Grange 220. Harry and Marjorie Luker Latus. She was raised and educated in Utica, and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales School. On October 25, 1947, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, with her uncle, Msgr. Joseph Luker, officiating, Mary was united in marriage with William P. May. Mary was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, its Lady's Guild, and a volunteer for a number of years with Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed her spare time reading and doing her crossword puzzles. A devoted wife, Mary was proud of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. She is survived by her husband William; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy and James Crimmer of Baldwinsville, and Susan E. May, also of Baldwinsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Paula Ann May of Utica, Dr. Stephen and Elizabeth May of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Jim and Joe Crimmer, Baldwinsville, Pamela and Patrice May, Utica, and Stephanie, Katie and Matthew May of Clinton. Martin Weigel of Pulaski; granddaughters, Kristina DuBois of Amsterdam, Rene Maxwell of Phoenix, Amy Lugowski, of Colorado; grandsons, Eric Weigel of Fairport, and Andrew Weigel of Pulaski; sisters, Blanche Gifford, Gertrude Bennett, Shirley Totman; brothers, Robert Peck and Dr. Nathan Peck; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in law. After a graveside service on May 21, 2005, her ashes will be buried in the Glenwood Cemetery alongside her first husband in Perry, NY.
