He was born in Utica, NY, on August 31, 1924, the son of the late LeRoy Heller and Marguerite McPhillips Heller. Mr. Heller was a retired Environmental Engineer for General Electric. He was a decorated US Navy veteran, who served 32 months in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, SC, a member of the Knights of Columbus, William E. Burke-Utica Council #189; the Veteran's Club of Sun City; Irish Heritage Club; Ancient Order of Hibernians, Utica, NY; he was an avid golfer; and a baseball coach of youth baseball, in Whitesboro, NY. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann R. Heller of Bluffton, SC; one son, Michael L. He was a member of the Oneida Lake Assoc. and was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He served his country with pride in the US Navy during WWII serving with the Armed Guard in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He formerly was employed as aTrainer for School Bus Drivers with the West Genesee Central School District, Onondaga County Park Ranger for 15 years, retired school teacher with the Lafayette Central School District, taught at the Gillette Road Middle School of the North Syracuse Central School District and taught summer driver education for the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District. Harry and Marjorie Luker Latus. She was raised and educated in Utica, and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales School. On October 25, 1947, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, with her uncle, Msgr. Joseph Luker, officiating, Mary was united in marriage with William P. May. Mary was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, its Lady's Guild, and a volunteer for a number of years with Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed her spare time reading and doing her crossword puzzles. A devoted wife, Mary was proud of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. She is survived by her husband William; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy and James Crimmer of Baldwinsville, and Susan E. Michael was born in Oswego and was the son of Dr. David D. O'Brien, Jr., and the late Alice Mack O'Brien who died in 1996. Mr. O'Brien was educated in Oswego schools and was a graduate of Oswego State University, he received his Masters Degree in International Relations from Syracuse University. He was employed as a mountaineering instructor, a whitewater rafting guide and bartender with the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks Michael is survived by his longtime partner and soulmate, Rebecca Stodola of Seattle, Washington; his father, Dr. David D. May 5, 2005 Mr. Edmund W. Sobolewski, 80, of Robinwood Drive, formerly of Syracuse, New York, died peacefully Thursday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Edmund was born August 4, 1924 in Plains, PA, the son of the late Walter and LillianLuckenbach Sobolewski. He was a graduate of Bucknell University and obtained his PhD. from Syracuse University in Chemical engineering. Edmund was a WWII army veteran serving with the United States Army and he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed for over 35 years as a chemical engineer for Allied Chemical in Syracuse, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Edmund did some consulting in chemical engineering and was very involved with Onondaga Lake research and environmental studies in Syracuse. Edmund was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Camillus, NY. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma an honorary chemical engineering fraternity. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, the late Edwina Hunter.
