October 5, 2005 Robert P. "Coach" Borke, 83, of Mattydale, passed away Wednesday at Birchwood Health Care Center. Born in Syracuse, he retired from Niagara Mohawk as a supervisor with 43 years of service, and belonged to the Syracuse Chapter UEA as a player coach and lead several city teams to championships in basketball and softball. He was a graduate of Assumption Academy, Captain of the Debate team, president of the Drama Club and enjoyed writing poetry. He was a communicant of Assumption Church as well as a Eucharistic Minister and a Knight of the Cross. Robert was an Army veteran of WWII. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa; son, Roger Francis; and daughter, Mary Bernadette. He is survived by his sons, Robert F. (Carol) and Joseph P. He was an avid sports fan especially devoted to the Yankees and SU sports. He devoted the last 20 years of his life to helping people in recovery and will be greatly missed. Aubrey was born on January 17, 1918 in Syracuse the son of William Henry and Catherine Houghton Tambs. He was agraduate of Syracuse Central High School Class of 1936 and then attended Central City Business Institute. Aubrey proudly served his country in the Army from 1942 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He married Barbara Thomas On March 12, 1949 in Oneida. Mrs. Tambs died on December 11, 2000.
