She retired in 1978 as a telephone operator for the New York Central Railroad after 37 years of service. She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, William Martin Sr., who died in 2003. She is survived by her brother Joseph and two sisters, Catherina and Julia Bitzel, all of Syracuse. Funeral services are Friday at 9 a.m. at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Bowering, 78, of Volney, died Tuesday at home. Born in Volney, he was a life resident. Ed owned and operated Edmarie Farms in Volney. He was a 12-year employee of the International Breeders Association. Ed was a 30-year Grievence Board member for the Town of Volney. He was also a 4-H leader and substitute rural mail driver. Ed leaves behind a legacy of outdoor enthusiasts. He was predeceased by two children, Gary Bowering who died in 1999, Joyce McDonald who died in 2001, and a granddaughter, Annette Bowering who died in 2001. Surviving: his wife of 56 years, Alma Bowering; four sons, Ronald, Edward and William Bowering, all of Volney, and Ralph Bowering of Schroeppel; a sister, Marge Hopkins of Oriskany Falls; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A Native of Syracuse, Ms. Murray graduated from LeMoyne College and Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. She retired as Director of the SUNY Health Sciences Library at Syracuse in 1995. During her tenure as Library Director, SUNY planned for and built the new Health Sciences Library. SUNY Health Sciences commissioned a portrait of Ms. Murray in recognition of her contributions to the campus. Her portrait is hung in the Health Sciences Library. Ms. Murray is a member of Zonta International and a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. She was selected to be a member of two People to People Delegations: A Delegation of Medical Librarians invited to China in 1989, and a Delegation of Medical Educators invited to Russia, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia in 1992. Ms. Murray is survived by her brother, James P. Murray, Jr., of White Stone, VA; her niece, Deborah Murray Shaw of Laurel, MD; and her nephews, Daniel J. and Michael J. School in MA, and the University of New Hampshire. Mr. Parker was a retired journeyman lineman of Local Union 1249 IBEW. He was a former Electrical Inspector with the NY Board of Fire Underwriters. He was a 60 year member of Jonesport Lodge #188, Jonesport, ME, AF&AM, he was a 60 year member of the York Rite Bodies and Anah Temple Shrine. He served four years in the US Coast Guard in World War II, building power and telephone lines. Mr. Parker is predeceased by his wife, Adeline who died in 1987. Stolz, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005, at his home. He was born in Syracuse, NY, where he attended Sumner and Levy Schools as well as Nottingham High School. After he graduated from Syracuse University in 1940, he served in the U.S. Army for one year and then worked in the War Department in Washington, D.C. In April of 1955 he was married to his present wife in Temple Society of Concord in Syracuse. After WWII, he worked as a traveling auditor for Sinclair Oil Company and upon his return to Syracuse he was employed by General Electric. In 1958 he joined the investment firm of Smith Bishop and Company as an investment counselor and remained in the investment field until 1997 when he retired from Smith Barney Citigroup to Hendersonville, NC. He was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club, the Rotary Club of Syracuse and Hendersonville where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid disciple of both jazz music and golf. He is survived by his wife, Coy Leigh Benjamin; a son, Robert L. Stolz; a daughter, Lizabeth L. Rosenbaum; and three grandchildren. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Sturdy Jr., Frederick L. September 3, 2005 Frederick L. Sturdy, Jr., 96, of Constantia joined our Lord on September 3, 2005. Born in Scotia, NY, on February 18, 1909, he later moved to Detroit, MI where he graduated from Northwestern High School and Walsh College of Accounting. He retired as Head Accountant of the Detroit Auditor General's Staff and moved to Constantia, where he was an active member of the Constantia Congregational Church. Until January 2005, he was a weekly volunteer at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. An accomplished flutist, he had played in the New Horizons Band until 2004. Fred enjoyed sailing, model railroading and was a gifted artist. Active in the Masonic Communities, he served as Grand Director of Ceremonies of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York and was past master of Scriba Lodge #414 in Constantia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elaine Claire Finney Sturdy. Surviving are two daughters, Claire (Steve) Marshall of Michigan and Louise (Chuck) Ward of Virginia; four grandchildren, Todd Marshall of Texas, Jennifer Gerhard of Ohio, Carrel (Tamas) Jakab of Virginia and Laura (Dr. Kevin) Gift of Virginia; and one great-grandchild, Hallie Gift. He lived in Constantia for three years and was employed at the Turning Stone Casino. He was known as "Ranger Dick" to the Girl Scouts Camp Near Wilderness in West Monroe for nine years. He was predeceased by his grandson Anthony in 2003. September 5, 2005 Joseph K. Zimmer, 57, of 1118 Wolf St., Syracuse, died Monday at the V.A. Medical Center. Joe was raised in Jamesville and resided in Syracuse the past 35 years. He was previously employed at the former Allied Chemical, Roth Steel, and at Crouse Hinds. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war. Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Joan; a son, Joseph of Vienna; a daughter, Mary-Jo Zimmer of Canastota; two stepsons, Michael and Scott Lucy; two stepdaughters, Debbie Schollenberger and Karen Durr; a brother, Michael Zimmer; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Private burial will be in the Onondaga Co. Veterans Cemetery.
