She was a secretary at Allied Chemical for 24 years, retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. Adelaide was also a member of the Solvay Tyrol Club Ladies Auxiliary, a poll inspector for the Village of Solvay, and a member of the Bagozzi Twins Bowling Team at the Solvay Recreation Alleys for over 24 years. Surviving are a sister-in-law, JoAnn Balduzzi; a nephew, James Balduzzi; and several cousins. She graduated from Sandy Creek Central School in 1965 as Salutatorian, receiving a Hilton Scholarship. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1969 with a degree in library science. She was employed by Cazenovia College as a librarian for the past two years and was also employed by Keuka College as a grant researcher for several years, Hobart, Colgate, and Syracuse Universities. Hoffmann, Wilfred E. September 12, 2005 Wilfred E. Hoffmann, or "Toad" to his four brothers, a graduate of Cornell University and Fordham Law School, founder of the law firm Hoffmann, Hubert, and Hoffmann, and author of CPLR Practice, died peacefully on his 99th birthday at his beloved summer house, Swift Water Point, on Wellesley Island. He specialized in criminal law and was as well known for winning acquittals as he was for representing the Onondaga Nation, who consequently adopted him, naming him Chief Shanananda, which translated is Hiawatha II, meaning "uplifting Spirit." He defended the nation on sovereignty issues, and W.W.II draft issues, representing them in their declaration of war against the axis in 1942. He was a member of Upstate Trial Attorneys Association, a member of the Onondaga Bar Association of NYS, Bar Association member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and a member of the American Bar Association. He was a member of the Cornell, Metropolitan, Bellevue Country and Sleepy Hollow Clubs. He was a violin collector and student of his close friend Carl Silfer, and formed a chamber music group in the fifties. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, tennis player, gardener, and a downhill skier until the age of 93. In 1937 Hoffmann married Mary McNicholas who was born and raised in Leadville, CO. Mary was active in the Bishop Forey Foundation and founded "The Pantry," a food donation program. He is survived by their nine children, Janet Sue "Viva" of Los Angeles, Jean (Horacio) Ferreyra of Cordoba, Argentina, Marybeth Fulton of CT, Terrance (Bridgitte) of Syracuse, Janice of Los Angeles, John (Jill) of Rochester, James (Cindy) of Los Angeles, Maureen (Patrick) Dessein of Syracuse, Christine (John) Baird of Houston; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother Francis, aka "Sood"; his longtime caretaker and loving friend, Alma Garcia; and his most loyal secretary, Angela Cummings, since 1974. Locaputo, Anthony September 12, 2005 Anthony Locaputo, 72, of Lyncourt, very loving husband, father grandfather, brother and friend, went to be with his Lord Monday after a brave battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his family and friends. A lifelong resident ofSyracuse, he graduated from North High in 1952, where he made All City for football. He attended Delhi and Syracuse University. Starting his career as a carpenter he then moved on to become a design draftsman for General Electric for 18 years. He retired from Miller Brewing after 18 years. He also ushered for Syracuse Sky Chiefs, Oncenter, War Memorial and the New York State Fair. He was a member of St. Peter's Church for 52 years, during which he served in the usher's guild and was past president of the Holy Name Society. He was Eucharistic minister and arranged many fund raising events. He also led a prayer group at St. Daniel's Church. He volunteered at the food pantry and the mission. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service from the Syracuse Police Department. Predeceased by his parents, Catherine (DiVagno) and Dominick Locaputo. She was a seamstress at Learbury's for 35 years and was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union. She attended and graduated from Felton Tarrant Comptometer School. She also assisted many people to learn the language in order to become citizens of this country. She had been employed at Sealright, Armstrong, Columbia Mills and Fulton Instrument, but found her niche as a home health aide with the Oswego Hospital where she retired after 13 years. She enjoyed raising house plants (especially African Violets), reading, watching soap operas and taping movies. September 11, 2005 Dorothy Jones Trease (Thomas), 88, longtime resident of N. Syracuse and Port Richey, FL, passed away at Loretto on Sunday. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she grew up in Dickson City, PA, and married her high school sweetheart, William D. Thomas. She was the daughter of Richard and Theresa Jones. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1975 and a second husband, Kenneth, in 1984. She was a secretary for many years in the North Syracuse Central School District. She is also survived by a sister, Mary McQuiston, of Dunnellon, FL, and two nieces; also a very dear and close lifelong friend, Alice Hudak of Binghamton.
