September 13, 2005 Genevieve C. Cummings, 87, of Poquoson, VA, formerly of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday. Born and educated in Syracuse, she was a department head for W.T. Grant before her retirement. She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council 6282. She was named Mother of the Year in 1998. Survivors: a daughter, Justine Cook and her husband Darrell of Poquoson, VA; three sisters, Rita Gedney, Elizabeth Kennedy and Adeline Marks, all of Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Edith Werbeck of Syracuse; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Cliff was born in Worchester, MA. Cliff was a 1950 graduate of Clark University, Worchester, Mass. where he received his Degree in Education. Cliff taught English for 32 years at Phoenix Central School. Cliff was a Navy Veteran and served from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda M. Gay of Phoenix, NY and their children, Melissa Barnard of Richland, NY, Timothy (Maria) Gay of Liverpool and Andrew (Sheryl) Gay of Camillus. September 15, 2005 John Edwin Harper Sr. died Thursday at home. John was born March 28, 1923, the son of J. Elmer and Harriet Nevel Harper. He graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1940 and CCBI in 1941. A WWII veteran, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in its 5th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron from December of 1941 until his honorable discharge in May 1945. During his service he was stationed in England, North Africa, Tunisia, Italy and Sicily. As a mechanic working on P38 aircraft, John participated in photographing the future route of the AL-CAN highway, which he revisited in 1983 with his wife, "to see if they did a good job." And he pronounced it "Super." John married Lillian Mae Webster on October 27, 1945; they have enjoyed 60 years together in their home on the south side of Syracuse. After 37 years with the New York Telephone Company as a foreman in the assignment bureau and a member of the Staff Department, John retired in 1982. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. His hobbies included woodworking, particularly cabinetry and furniture making, and fishing on the St. Lawrence River. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and their successes in life. Queri, Kelly Ann (Finney) September 14, 2005 Kelly Finney Queri, age 46, of Pittsburgh, passed away Wednesday. She was born and lived most of her life in Syracuse before moving to Pittsburgh in 1994. Kelly was a flight attendant with American Airlines and a stock broker with Dean-Witter Reynolds before becoming a devoted mother in 1987. She graduated from Onondaga Community College and attended the Crouse School of Nursing. She was an active member and volunteer at St. James Parish in Sewickley, PA, and Oakland Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA. Kelly is survived by her two daughters, Nicole and Victoria Queri, both of Pittsburgh; her parents, Bruce and Diane Finney; two sisters, Kathy (Anthony) Marchese of Naples, FL, Colleen (David) Blakeslee of Syracuse; a brother, David (Karin) Finney of Frankfurt, Germany; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Spadotto, Beverly Loughlin September 13, 2005 Beverly Loughlin Spadotto, 74, of Syracuse, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, surrounded by her loving family. Bev was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. She was em-ployed by Electrolux as an assistant to the president. She married the love of her life and is predeceased by Ted Spadotto. Bev was a trail blazer for women's rights as she raised her four daughters while helping Ted build their successful company. She was an avid bowler and was rewarded with many honors and awards. Bev was the vice president of the WIBC before she retired to Charleston, S.C., where she resided for 27 years. Bev came home three years ago and surrounded herself with her family. She loved her home, especially her yard and the fun family gatherings that were held there. She loved being Irish and all that it entailed. During those family get-togethers, Bev would often be heard singing a tune or telling a joke. Bev loved her country, flowers, a good box of chocolates, going out to dinner, home remedies, watching tennis and old movies, attending grandchildren's events, and playing and winning pitch. Beverly is survived by her four daughters, Beverly Spadotto of California, Dianne (Danny) Louer of Syracuse, Robin (Bob) Henty of Sennett, Dolores Spadotto of Syracuse; stepson, Theodore (Carm) of Camillus; stepdaughter, Joanne Spadotto-Deitz of Syracuse. She was the super grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of six, and loving aunt of too many to count. Her fun-loving spirit will remain with all of us. "Bob" September 15, 2005 Bob Vollick, 74, of East Syracuse, passed away early Thursday morning after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Throughout his illness he was comforted by his family and friends and maintained his spunky sense of humor. Bob retired from the Herald Journal after 43 years of service. He was a graduate of Eastwood High School, Class of 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Ann Dolores Bove, on September 20, 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Bob was a faithful communicant of St. Matthew's Church. He was a founder of East Syracuse-Minoa Pop Warner football league and a coach for 18 years. He was both an avid golfer and boater. When he wasn't golfing or boating, he spent his days watching his 15 grandchildren's sporting and various events. Survivors: his wife of 53 years, Ann Dolores; his brother, Jack Vollick; his daughter, Dorie, and her husband, Myron Kocan; his son, John Vollick, and his wife, Lisa; his daughter, Jill, and her husband, Michael Hutko; and 15 beloved grandchildren: Janelle, Jeffrey, Jamey, Joel, Justin, Jacy, Brian, Kristin, Eric, Melissa, Timothy, Connie, Jeremy, Joshua and Michaela. A native of Fulton, he was the son of the late Dr. David K. and Dorothy Dwyer Wagoner. Richard received his Masters Degree from Columbia University. He retired from Doubleday Publishing in New York City after many years. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Wallace, 75, of West Granger Road, husband of the late Ruth "Ginger" Wallace, passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 at his home. George was born July 30, 1930 in New York City, a son of John and Mary Ray Wallace. He grew up in New York City and attended Bishop Loughlin High School, graduating with the Class of 1947, and was a member of the National Champion Track Team at Bishop Loughlin. George then listed in the U.S. Marine Corps and later in the U.S. Army. On May 16, 1953 he was united in marriage with Ruth "Ginger" Coyle in Bergenfield, NJ. Mr. Wallace was employed as a Senior Underwriter for Employers Insurance of Wausa, and later at Niagara Mohawk where he was a Risk Manager. After his retirement, he continued his work with NiMo as a consultant. In the 1970's he served on an Insurance Advisory Board under Gov. Carey. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace had summered at Kayuta Lake since 1980. Mrs. Wallace died February 8, 2000. Mr. Wallace was a member of St. Charles Church, Syracuse, and St. Patrick's Church Forestport. He is survived by six daughters, Virginia Manning, Syracuse, Patricia Desnoyers, Wilmington, NC, Barbara Greenwood, Kengsinton, NH, Mary Anne Balliet, Syracuse, Kathy Bass, Baldwinsville, and Dr. Jean Marie Wallace, Bristow, VA; one son, George T. Wallace, Jr., Forestport; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Rottenburger, Glendale; and one sister-in-law, Susan Goebel, Lawrenceville, NJ; many nieces and nephews.
