Janicki, Stella September 27, 2005 Mrs. Stella Janicki, 89, formerly of N. Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Presbyterian Home. She was born in Hickley on October 20, 1915, a daughter of Chester and Mary Frydrych Grabski and attended local schools. She was employed at one time by Dunlop Rubber & Tire Co. On May 5, 1934 she married Casimir (Charlie) Janicki at Holy Trinity Church, a blessed union of 62 years until his death in 1996. Stella was a devout parishioner of Holy Trinity Church and a member of the United Polka League. Stella is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Eleanora (Ellie) and Stanley Selwach of Liverpool; three sisters, Helen Spagnuolo, Alice Zyskowski and Mary Grabski; three sisters-in-law, Frances Grabski, Ann Grabski and Doris Janicki; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard in 1972; a grandson, Richard in 1997; and five brothers, Edward, Stanley, Walter, Chester and John Grabski. LaCroix, age 82, of Camillus, NY, died Saturday at the Francis House in Syracuse, NY, after a brief illness. Born in Massachusetts, he graduated from Lynn English High School, class of 1940, and completed a four-year Apprentice Program at General Electric. He served for three years of active duty in World War II as a Navy/Coast Guard Aviation Pilot. After the War, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 18 years and retired as a Lt. Commander. Throughout his 43-year career with GE, he lived in various places, including Massachusetts, Syracuse and Melbourne, Australia. He retired as Manager of Overseas Purchasing in 1986. He was a member of the GE Apprentice Alumni and was a communicant at Holy Family Church in Camillus. He was a member of Knights of Columbus for may years and received the honors of Fourth Degree Knight at the Monsignor Charles L. Elslander Assembly #0167 in Sarasota, Florida. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Jacqueline A. (Carroll) LaCroix; three sons, Dennis J. LaCroix of Reading, MA, Brian R. LaCroix of Danvers, MA, and Timothy J. Irene was a model in NYC, mainly at Saks 5th Ave. She sang at multiple functions, and was a member and past president of the Fair-mount Firemen's Ladies' Auxiliary. Irene enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapshooting, for which she won several trophies. She was also an accomplished oil painter who received numerous accolades, and was a member of the Gem and Mineral Society of Syracuse. Irene is survived by her husband, Harry L. Singer, Francis James September 21, 2005 Francis James Singer, age 55 of Fort Collins, Colorado, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a five-year battle with cancer. Francis was born September 29, 1949 in Syracuse, NY to James and Arlene Singer. After graduating from Bishop Ludden High School in 1967 he attended Cornell University where he graduated in 1971 with a degree in wildlife ecology. In 1975 he completed his master's degree at the University of Idaho. In 1995 he earned his Ph.D. in ecology from Colorado State University. Francis was a tremendously talented scientist who was employed by the Department of Interior and its affiliated agencies for 30 years. His research included the conservation biology and restoration ecology for ungulates as well as the carrying capacity for ungulates in parks. His study areas included 15 national parks located primarily in the West. He finished out his career as a research ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and held an appointment as a senior research scientist with the Natural Resource Ecology Lab at Colorado State University. Francis is survived by his wife, Julie; two daughters, Erin and Julia Singer of Atlanta, GA; a stepdaughter, Lindsay Root of Fort Collins; two stepsons, Chris and Nick Root of Fort Collins. His mother, Arlene Swete of Syracuse, NY; two sisters; Anita Buckley of Syracuse, NY and Mary Norejko of Bethlehem, PA and one brother, Patrick Singer of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He retired to Green Valley, AZ where he was a member of Green Valley Presbyterian Church and Elks Club. He was a member of Newton Falls Lyons Club and enjoyed playing in a shuffle board league in Green Valley. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen who died in 1993; and his grandson, Corey Swanson who died in 2004. Jones Volcko, a longtime resident of Harrisburg, formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 25, 2005 in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Cortland, NY, and baptized Methodist, she was the daughter of Betty M. (Brown) Goal, of Syracuse, NY and the late William A. Jones, Sr. and the stepdaughter of John Goal. She began her schooling in Truxton, NY, and graduated from Fayetteville Manlius High School. Anne received her Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York, College of Oswego and her Masters of Arts from St. Francis College, Loretta, PA. Anne was employed as a Personnel Analyst for the County of Dauphin since 1988, served as Treasurer of IPMA, volunteered for the Central PA Humane Society, and was a member of Central PA Small Boats Association. Her passions were scuba diving, sailing, traveling, cross country skiing, kayaking, impressionist art, animals, and Paris. Surviving are five sisters, Barbara Slivinski and husband, Gerald, of West Monroe, NY, Deborah Harper and husband, Wayne, of Louisville, KY, Katherine Winkelstein and husband, Stephen, of Damascus, MD, Cynthia Nora Aldrich and husband, Garry, of Sellersburg, IN, and Amy Grace Parker, of Baldwinsville, NY; 15 nieces and nephews; her good friend, Paul Kerrigan, of Harrisburg; and many, many friends. Private funeral services will be held for the family. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. September 26, 2005 Mary Esther Walter, 92, of Syracuse, died on Monday at James Square. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was prede-ceased by her husband Charles and a son Carl F. Walter. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Virginia Walter of Syracuse; and grandchildren, Michele (Trent) Patterson, Debra and Jeffery Walter. He was self employed as a heavy machine operator. He is survived by his lifetime companion, Sharon Claflin; mother, Sharon Wescott; father, Paul Wescott Jr.; sisters, Sherrilynn Wakeman and Lori Wescott; brothers, William, Michael and Kerry Wescott; half-sisters, Jennifer Wescott, Melissa Wendt and Jessica Wescott; stepsisters, Shannon and Kimberly; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
