Alice R. McChesney Young, 73, of Jordan, N.Y., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at
home under hospice care. Born in Latrobe, she was a daughter of John Paul and
Marjorie Jean (Nicely) McChesney. Alice graduated from The Pennsylvania State
University and earned a master's degree from Oswego State College. She was a
home and careers teacher at North Syracuse (N.Y.) Junior High School for 18
years before retiring. Alice was a member of Jordan United Methodist Church,
where she was formerly a Sunday School teacher and UMYF adviser. Alice, along
with her husband, Jim, were very active at Beaver Lake Nature Center. She served
as a guide and gift shop volunteer. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, James
E Young; two sons, Douglas J. (Patti) Young and Gregory J. Young; daughter,
Pamela J. Young McCarthy (Larry Myers); her mother, Jean McChesney; two
brothers, Roger McChesney and Leonard McChesney; two sisters, Linda Somes and
Ellen Gaskill, and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Olivia, Bethani and Emily. A
memorial service will be held in the spring in Jordan United Methodist Church
with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Friends of
Beaver Lake Nature Center, 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027, or
Roswell Park Cancer Institute, 665 Elm St., Buffalo, NY 14263. The Bush Funeral
Home, 120 E. Main St., Elbridge, NY 13060, has charge of arrangements.
