That he entered the Service of the United States under the following named Officers and served as herein Stated. 1st At Cambridge in the State of New York he Volunteered and went to Skeensboro and then to Ticonderoga, and then returned to Skeensboro and then enlisted in Captain Lees Company, he does not remember what year this was. Colonel Arnold was in Command, and Served One month. then at the Same place was enlisted for Six months, to go to north ward believes his Captains name was Babcock in Colonel Easons Regiment, in General Montgomerys Command. Went to Ticonderoga then to Crown Point, then to St Johns. then to Sorrell built a Breast work and the next morning fired upon a British Vessell opposite, which Cut her Cable and moved off. After this joined the main Army and after his time expired, enlisted again for six months more and marched to Quebeck. It was Cold weather and he remained there until the Army retreated in May. And after this returned to Ticonderoga. After this was often Called out in the Militia and one time was Stationed at Palmer to guard against the Indians. And Was out one Month at that place, have been Several times on duty at Fort George, and Fort Edward, and once Saw Governor Clinton at Fort George. He believes he has Served in all two years, but is unable to make any More particular Statement. Has no documentary evidence and knows on no person now living that Served with him, Was born in Duchess County State of New York the 22d April 1756. Has no record of his Age. Has lived in Hoosack Since the War, and was there Married, Since then to Schoharie, then to Otsego County and then removed to Ontario County and Now resides in said County at Victor. He knows the Revd Reuben Parmelee & Gershhorn Wilmarth He hereby relinquishes every Claim Whatever to a Pension or annuity except the present and declares his name is not on the Pension Roll of the Agency of any State Sworn and Subscribed Benjamin his X mark Rose The day and year Aforesaid In open Court. We the Rev. Reuben Parmelee & Gershorn Wilmarth residing in the Town of Victor in the County & State aforesaid hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Benjamin Rose who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration, that we believe him to be Seventy six years of age That he is reputed &believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution & that we concur in that opinion. And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion, after the investigation of the Matter, and after putting the interrogatories prescribed by the war department, that the Above named applicant Was a Revolutionary soldier, and served as he States. And the Court further Certifies, that it appears to them that Reuben Parmele, who has signed the preceding Certificate, is a Clergyman, and that Gershorn Willmarth, who has also signed the Same, is a Credible person, that they both reside in the town of Victor, and that their Statement is entitled to credit. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal of office, this first day of September A.D. 1832 {signed} Charles Crane __________________________________________________ Pension File Application for Benjamin Rose #R8998 Document #2 Aug 8, 1832 Ontario County {LS} On this eighth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight and thirty two before me the Subscriber a Commissioner of deeds in the County of Ontario personally appeared Katharine Cronkhite residing in the town of Perrington County of Monroe and State of New York with whom I am well acquainted and being by me duly Sworn deposeth and Saith that She is Seventy years of age that she is a half Sister of Benjamin Rose now a resident of the town of Victor in the County of Ontario. That She was born in the Section of the Country known by the name of the Nine Partners: that her parents removed to the state of New York when She was very small that She lived with her parents at the Commencent of the revolutionary war and her Said Brother Benjamin Rose enlisted into the Army. Understood that he went to the North with the Army that went into Canada this She leaned from her parents at the time her brother was gone on that expedition recollects that when her brother returned from that expedition She lived with her parents in the town of Cambridge in the State of New York. Thinks she was about thirteen or fourteen years of Age at that time when her brother returned from the Army. That her said brother is older than She is, that he now resides in the town of Victor in the County of Ontario as She has been informed and belives. Subscibed and Sworn before me This eighth day of August 1832 Katharine her X mark Cronkhite Azel Berray Commissioner of Deeds of the county of Ontario and Justice of the peace I certify the above named Katharine Cronkhite is a creditable person. {signed} Azel Berray Justice of the peace ___________________ Pension File Application for Benjamin Rose #R8998 Document #3 Aug 27, 1832 The State of New York In the matter of Benjamin Rose's Ontario County {LS} application for a pension Personally appeared before me the undersigned a Notary Public in and for said County Benjamin Rose who being duly sworn deposeth and saith that when he made his declaration before the County Court on the 27th day of August 1832 for a pension, under the act of 7th June 1832 he supposed he had complied with the rule of the department of War, and that case made and provided, but being furnished with a brief requiring further details, he now amends his said declaration and says, that when he first entered the service he went from Cambridge in New York to Skeensboro, and there voluntarily enlisted in Captain Noah Lee's Company, in Colonel Arnolds Regiment, and served at that place one month, and then enlisted in Captain Babcock's Company in Colonel Easons Regiment for Six months, and then went to Ticonderoga by Water, and after this, went to the Northward and his time expired when at Sorrel and he again enlisted for Six months more in the same Company, and was marched to Quebec soon after General Arnold arrived there, and was at the Siege of Quebec, and retreated with the army by Sorrell and St Johns to Ticonderoga, and there remained a short time, having served one month beyond his enlistment, when he was discharged and went home. He served in Captain Lee's Company as first above, one month, and in Captain Babcock's Company one year and one month. He cannot say what period this was. He was after this in the service one month at Palmer, but he does not remember the name of his Captain. At another time he went to Fort Edward under Ensign Van _ormer, and he was several other times called out, but he cannot give the names of his officers. He lived near the frontier, and was often Called out, and never refused to go. He being unable to satisfy the War Department as to these short tours of duty, he only claims for his service in Captain Lees Company for One month, and in Captain Babcocks Company for thirteen months in, all Fourteen months as a private soldier. He has no documentary evidence no never had any. He saw General Montgomery at Quebec, also General Arnold. He does not remember the names of any other of the Continental or Militia Regiments. There were many troops on the same service but owing to the infirmities of age, his memory is impaired and he cannot give a more particular account of his services. He has now answered the several interrogateries prescribed by the War Department, and says he served noless than one year and two months, for which he claims a pension. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto Set my hand and seal of office, this Ninth day of March A.D. 1833. {signed} Charles Crane ____________________________________________________________ PensionFile Application for Benjamin Rose Document #4 Aug 21, 1833 State of New York In the matter of Benjamin Rose, Ontario County {LS} application for a pension Personally appeared before the subscriber a Notary Public in and for said county, Benjamin Rose, who being duly sworn according to law doth depose and say that he is informed by the agent that his application for a pension under the act of Congress of 7th June 1832 is suspended for some proof. He now says that he has used all the diligence in his power to procure the testimony of some person who served with him but has not been able to find any such, but he has procured the testimony of Catharine Cronkhite whos affidavit is attached, and also the testimony of his neighbors the Revd Thomas Wright a clergyman and also of Abijah Williams, and he prays that his case may receive the consideration of the War Department and he be placed on the pension roll agreable to the provisions of the act before referred to for his services during the Revolutionary War. We Thomas Wright a clergyman, residing in the town of Victor and Abyah Williams a Revolutionary pensioner residing in the same town, hereby certify, that we are well acquainted with Benjamin Rose who has subscribed and sworn to the above. That we are his neighbors. That he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a Soldier of the Revolution, and we concur in that opinion, and the said Abijah Williams doth further certify that he has often conversed with the said Benjamin Rose on the subject of his services under General Arnold at Quebec, and he having served on the same station at a subsequent period, he is confident that he must have been there, and has no doubt that he served as he states.
