Power of Attorney
Written: August 21, 1821
Recorded: September 10, 1821

Know all men by these presents that I Hophni Smith of the Town of Monroe 
County of Orange State of New York, have constituted made and appointed my 
trusty friend, Archibald Smith of the same place, to be my true and lawful 
attorney for me and in my name, place, and stead, and to use, to ask, demand, 
sue for, level, recover and receive and recover, all sum and sums of money, 
debts, rents, goods, wares, dues, accounts, and all other demands whatever 
which are or shall be due or owing, payable or belonging to or detained from 
the above said Hophni Smith, in any manner of ways, or means whatever, by any 
person or persons-- giving and granting to my said Attorney, by these 
presents, full and whole power, strength and authority, in and about the 
premises; to have sue and take all lawful ways and means, in my name, for the 
recovery thereof, and upon receipts of any such Debts, dues or sums of money 
aforesaid, aquitting,  or other sufficient discharges, for and in my name to 
make seal and deliver __ and granting all and every other thing, act and acts, 
thing and things, device and devices in the law whatsoever needful or 
necessary to be done, in and about the premises, for and in my name do and 
execute and perform, as largely and amply,  to all intents and purposes as I 
might or I could do, if I were personally present or as the matter required 
more special authority than herein is given, __and attornies one or more under 
me for the purposes aforesaid, to make and constitute, and again at pleasure 
to revoke __ratifying, allowing and holding for firm and effectual, all and 
whatever my P Attorney shall lawfully do as in and about the premises by 
virtue hereof __ Witness whereof I have hereunto set may hand and seal this 21 
day of August in the Year of Our Lord 1821.            Hophni Smith

Rockland County Ss: Personally came before me Edward Sufferin, Esquire, first 
Judge of Rockland County, the within named, and acknowledged the within Letter 
of Attorney to be his voluntary act of court. In testimony whereof I have
