The occasion of this reception was the sailing of John for England on the first of July for a visit to relatives. Over 200 invitations to the dance were sent out, which drew a very large crowd to the hall. During the evening Harry Tripp made a short address, in which he bade farewell to "Chubby" and then presented him, in (on) behalf of the Club, with a pair of cuff buttons with John's initials on them. The dance lasted til 1 o'clock, and was voted by all present to be one of the nicest private receptions ever run off in Highland Falls. John Greatorex is a charter member of the Riverside Club, captain of its baseball team and catcher thereon. He is held in high esteem by his fellow members, and is, undoubtedly, the most popular member in the Club Additional Comments: John Greatorex, son of George and Mary Ellen Greatorex who emigrated to the USA in the mid 1880's. John born in Highland Falls, 8th Feb 1887 so never knew the country of his parents birth. The reason for his visit was undoubtedly to visit his paternal grandmother Ann Greatorex and the rest of his English family. Ann Greatorex died the following year in 1909 not before leaving a legacy to George Greatorex of $2000.00. John C Greatorex returned to the USA on the 9th Sept 1911 onboard the RMS Lusitania in company with a 16yr old English born cousin called John Henry Greatorex who was to make his way in the USA to live with his American Uncle George Greatorex. John C Greatorex died in Jan 1919.
