"Pete" Pedro J. "Pete" Cruz of Goshen, peacefully passed away Thursday March 31, 2005, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was 51. Born in Puerto Rico on September 7, 1953, he was the son of Alicia Rivera Cruz and the late Pedro Cruz. He was employed as a Youth Councelor at Rural Migrant Ministry in Poughkeepsie, and was also a self-employed contractor. He was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church in Goshen. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Mazara Cruz, at home; three sons: Malcolm Diaz of Middletown, Gaberiel Cruz and Joshua Cruz, both of Goshen; one daughter, Sarah Cruz of Goshen; his mother, Alicia Rivera Cruz of Stanford, Conn.; one sister, Carmen Sullivan and her husband, Mark, of Columbia, Conn.; two brothers, Robert Cruz of Stanford, Conn. and Manuel Cruz and his wife, Corrina, of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call Friday, April 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, N.Y. George H. Devine, 88, died Wednesday March 30, 2005, at home. The son of the late George H. Devine and Catherine Buckley Devine, he was born November 8, 1916 in Geneva, N.Y. Mr. Devine was District Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance. He started as an agent in Penn Yan, N.Y., then became assistant manager in Geneva, N.Y., then general assistant manager, working out of New York City and covering New York and Connecticut. He then worked in Troy as district manager before moving to Kingston. George was a communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Kingston; was president and had been secretary of the Eastern Metropolitan Life Insurance District Managers; had been vice president of the Rotary Club and had been chairman of several committees. Mr. Devine invented a vertical lathe attachment, the "Vertilathe", and started a company, G.H. Devine, Inc., with sales on the Internet. As a young man, he was active in softball. He was a pitcher in Geneva, N.Y. and was known as "Iron Horse" Devine. He was the widower of Elizabeth "Betty" (Meehan) Devine, who predeceased him on September 18, 2000. Survivors include three sons: George Devine of New Paltz, Daniel J. Devine of Kingston, and Michael G. Devine of Kingston; daughter-in-law, Dianne Devine of Kingston; granddaughter, Danielle E. Devine; grandson, Drew J. Devine; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Hayward, age 60, of Sebastian, Fla., died Tuesday March 29, 2005 at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, Fla., following a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1944 in Cornwall, N.Y. and had been a resident of Sebastian since 1995, moving there from Newburgh, N.Y. He was employed as a delivery person at North South Supply of Vero Beach. Fred was a member of the ABATE Independence Chapter. Members of his family include his wife of 34 years, Jane Hayward, at home; his son, Peter Hayward and his wife, Victoria, of Highland, N.Y.; his daughter, Barbara Stolte of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Maureen Hamilton of Grant, Fla., and Monica Dunn of Washingtonville, N.Y. Kelly, a director of distribution for IBM - World Trade Center, New York City, and 45 year resident of New Paltz, died Tuesday March 29, 2005, at home. He was 79. The son of the late Robert E. Kelly and Margaret L. Terrian, he was born May 4, 1925 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Robert was a Staff Sergeant of the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post #8645 in New Paltz and of the New Paltz Fire Department. He married Shirley B. Knickerbocker in New Paltz on October 19, 1947. A family statement reads, "Dad was dedicated to our mom and loved his home on Cedar Ridge. He also enjoyed spending time in Florida with his friends. Our father was part of the "Greatest Generation" who bravely fought a hard battle at the end of his life. Dad will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts." He is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Kelly, at home; two daughters, Wendy J. Kelly and companion Martin Lutz of Peekskill, N.Y., and Jacqueline Klein and her husband, Vincent C., of Gardiner, N.Y.; one son, Robert Kelly and his wife, Kimberly, of Ridgewood, N.J.; grandchildren: David and Brian Kelly of Ridgewood, N.J., Brett Klein of Boston, Mass., and Courtney Klein of Gardiner, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Joyce Beattie, of New Paltz; and many nieces and nephews. Malone, Anna Anna Malone of Chester, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Monday March 28, 2005 at Elant in Goshen. She was 95. The daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Glorioso Ribando, she was born January 21, 1910 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the widow of Sisto Malone. She was a member of St. Columba R.C. Church and of the Chester Golden Age Seniors. Survivors include her children: Mary Boyce and her husband, Donald, of Stuart, Fla., Virginia Battiato and her husband, Sam, of Chester, and Lawrence Malone and his wife, Patricia, of Monroe; her grandchildren: Sam Jr., Joseph, John and James Battiato, Linda Hess, Donald Jr., Brian, Jeff and Gerald Boyce, Lawrence Malone Jr., Kathleen Lane, Kristy McCarthy and Kathy Reul; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Green of Linden, N.J., Rose Wright of Middletown, and Lucy Weyant of the state of Florida; and sister-in-law, Joan Ribando as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry, John and Nicholas; and her sisters, Mary, Virginia and Frances. McDonald, Jr., a lifelong Newburgh area resident, died suddenly of a heart attack at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall on March 28, 2005. He was 47. Son of John W. McDonald, Sr. and the late Dorothy T. McDonald, he was born February 12, 1958 in Newburgh. Besides his love for his daughter, Alex, his other love was music. He was the bass guitarist for the band, "Dead Giveaway". John was also a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 363 and a past member of Winona Lake Engine Company #2. Survivors include his daughter, Alex Mary McDonald, whom he loved dearly; his father, John W. McDonald; stepmother, Susan McDonald; three brothers: Dennis, Michael and Kevin McDonald, and their wives; and three nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy T. McDonald. McKevitt of Warwick, the owner of Jiffy Stop Convenience Store in Warwick, and former District Manger for Freihofers Bakery Company in Newburgh and Goshen, and a longtime resident of the area, died March 29, 2005 at St. Anthony's Hospital, Warwick. He was 50 years of age. The son the late Thomas and Madeline Nagel McKevitt, Mike was born on November 15, 1954 in New York City. He was a member of St. John's R.C. Church, in Goshen. Michael is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Curtiss McKevitt, at home, whom he married on April 2, 1977; and his sons, Matthew, Patrick and Timothy McKevitt, all at home. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia McKevitt of Warwick, Kathleen Cleary and her husband, Roger, of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Marjorie Mercier and her husband, Mike, of Newburgh, Judeth and her husband, Stephen Finkel, of Warwick; his brothers, Thomas McKevitt and his wife, Lisa, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Christopher McKevitt and his wife, Margaret, of Warwick. Michael is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews. Betty (Stevens) Nunn, of O'Fallon, Mo. and formerly of Harriman, N.Y., died Wednesday March 30, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo. She was 64. The daughter of the late James Stevens and Florence Stevens, she was born August 17, 1940 in Harriman, N.Y. A homemaker, Betty was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post in Harriman. She was the widow of Raleigh Nunn. Survivors include her five daughters: Debbie Rivera and her husband, Mike, of O'Fallon, Mo., Penny Lewis and her husband, Gilmore, of O'Fallon, Mo., Jacqueline Rosado and her husband, Julio, of Monroe, Lisa Schueler and her husband, John, of Newburgh, and Stacy Schneider and her husband, Garrick, of St. Charles, Mo.; one brother, Donald Hunter of Kentucky; one sister, Patricia Grove of Arizona; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Raleigh, she was predeceased by one brother, Russell Stevens.
