Evelyn A. Davies of Middletown, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 88. The daughter of George W. and Harriet Ackerman Moore, she was born December 2, 1916 in New Jersey. She was the widow of Charles F. Davies, Sr. Survivors include her sons, Charles F. Davies Jr. and his wife, Ronnie of Smallwood, NY, John H. Davies and his wife, Casey of Walker Valley, NY and George W. Davies of Bayonne, NJ and her daughters, Linda Seeley and her husband, John of Fair Oaks, NY and Carol Barschow and her husband Walter of Connecticut. She was also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dickinson, Robert Robert Dickinson, a retired school teacher from the Port Jervis School System in 1984, and longtime area resident, died Saturday, April 3, 2005 at Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Facility in Fishkill. He was 78. The son of the late Issac and Lottie Diamond Dickinson, he was born November 28, 1926 in Albany. He was a veteran of WW II, US Navy and was a graduate of Albany State Teacher's College, achieving his Master's Degree in Education. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brown Dickinson at home; one daughter, Shelley Dickinson of Enfield, Conn.; two brothers, Edward Dickinson of Kennebunkport, Maine, William Dickinson of Watervliet, N.Y.; one sister, Margaret Michalec of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Leah Freschette; and several nieces and nephews. Fossella, of Newburgh, a former retired secretary for Ferguson Adjusters in Newburgh and lifetime area resident, entered into rest Saturday April 2, 2005, at home. She was 82. Daughter of the late Achille and Caterina Andriano Arene, she was born January 17, 1923 in Newburgh. She was married to the late Salvatore Fossella. Carmela attended Newburgh schools and was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, Class of '41. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and former member of the Sacred Heart League. Carm was a caring person who always opened her heart and home to everyone. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her children: Maria C. Dyseven of New Windsor, Joseph V. Fossella of New York City and East Hampton, Long Island, and Catherine Fossella of Newburgh; her grandson, Alexander J. Fossella of East Hampton, Long Island; her sister, Florence M. Arene of Newburgh; her niece, Rosa Retamozo of Newburgh; and grand-niece Andrea Rose Scott. Besides her husband Salvatore, Carmela was predeceased by her sister, Mary Rose Arene. James V. Franco, of Ozone Park and Middletown, a retired manager of Visitor's Services for ITT Corp. in New York, N.Y. died on Monday, April 4, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 87. The son of Angelo and Josephina Pani Franco, he was born on January 1, 1918 in Brooklyn. He was the widower of Laura Sollami Franco, his wife of 61 years. A veteran, Mr. Franco served as Master Seargent in the United States Army Air Corp. during WW II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Queens, N.Y. A family statement read; "Dad was a great story teller. He loved a good joke and had a unique ability to remember a person' s name with their first handshake. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler. He was a loving husband, terrific father and wonderful grandfather. What a cook! His meatballs will be sadly missed." Survivors include his children, Laurette Franco of Rockaway Beach, Ore., Diane Spar and her significant other, George Marshall of Middletown, Marie Greenhalgh and her husband Charles of Upper Montclair, N.J. and Virginia Hogan and her husband Gregory of Manlius, N.Y.; and his grandchildren, Kristijan Spar and his wife Kelly, Andre Spar and his significant other, Marion Gurdineer, Michael Hogan and Amanda Greenhalgh; brother, George Franco and his wife Annie Dean of Fremont, Calif.; and well as many nieces and nephews. Lennon Sr., of Wawarsing, N.Y., died Sunday, April 3, 2005. He was 78. Mr. Lennon was born in Walden, N.Y. on January 27, 1927, son of Ephraim B. and Katie (Rossman) Lennon. Gilbert was a veteran of the Navy having served on Ship 777 as Helmsman during WW II. Mr. Lennon was a mechanic for the Town of Wawarsing for many years. He was a member of the VFW of Wawarsing. Gilbert was an avid fly fisherman who enjoyed tying his own flies and teaching his family how to become master fly fishermen. On December 13, 1946 Gilbert married the former Florence Avery. This past December they celebrated 58 years of marriage. In addition to his wife Florence of Wawarsing, Gilbert is survived by their children Gilbert T. Lennon Jr. of Kingston, N.Y., David R. Lennon of Tucson, AZ, Donald Lennon of Wawarsing, Daniel Lennon of Napanoch, Patricia A. Gossellin of Sumter, S.C., Katherine A. Field of Cazenovia, N.Y. and Meredith Pomery of Wawarsing; his sister Mary E. Craven of San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was employed as a Dispatcher for Tuxedo Park Police Department, Tuxedo, NY and also worked at Short Stop Deli, Middletown. Sakellson, 79, retired priest of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, N.Y., died Sunday April 3, 2005. Father Philip Sakellson was born December 25, 1925, Christmas Day, in Lynn, Mass. He graduated from the Holy Cross Theological Seminary in Brookline, Mass. in 1949 and further studied Theology abroad in Athens, Greece and Chalki (Constantinople, Istanbul, Turkey). He was ordained a priest in 1952 and elevated to Archimandrite in 1982. His first parish was in Fall River, Mass., where he was instrumental in building a new church for the community. He also served the Greek Orthodox Communities of Nashua, N.H. and Quincy, Mass. During his thirty years of tenure in the Newburgh area, Father Philip's ministry extended to Middletown, Beacon, and St. Basil's Academy in Garrison, N.Y., among others. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Agnes Marinakis, and is survived by his children: Stanley and Vicky Sakellson of Scarsdale, N.Y., Barbara and Fred Gableman and their three children: Philip, Paul and Greta, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; and his sister, Sophie Kaivas of Lynn, Mass.
