Richard Alen Bryant, a US Army veteran, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 in Tiajuana, Mexico. He was 55. The son of the late Lestor Bryant and Alberta Baker Bryant, he was born October 3, 1949 in Newburgh. He attended the Newburgh School District and was baptized in Ebenezer Baptist Church as a child. As a young adult, he united with the Soul Saving Station Church of God in Christ, Newburgh, N.Y. Richard worshipped there whenever he was in Newburgh. He had many friends. Survivors include one brother, Arthur "Skippy" Smith of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Irene Bryant Cotten of Yokosuka, Japan and Deloris Bryant Filgo of Bremerton, Wash.; first cousins, Elaine "Sandy" Baker Bevier of Newburgh and Barbara Baker of Albany; several nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends. "Buddy" Freeman, a refuse engineer for the Sanitation Dept., New York, N.Y., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. He was 74. The son of Edward Freeman and Mary McCarthy Freeman, he was born Monday, February 2, 1931 in Bronx. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include two sons, David Freeman and his wife Denise of Marlton, N.J., Dan Freeman and his wife Carolyn of Goshen; one daughter, Gloria Freeman of New Rochelle; five grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, Julianne, Leah and Jenna; several nieces and nephews. Lauren C. Getman, a homemaker and five year resident of the area, died Saturday April 2, 2005 in Wurtsboro. She was 42. Lauren will be remembered for her zest for life, her love of the outdoors, especially the ocean, and the joy she had in keeping her garden. The son of the late Fred and Karen Johnson, he was born September 18, 1923 in New York City. He was retired from Dairylea Corp. in Goshen, and was a former employee of the Middletown School District. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Flora Paz Johnson, at home; his two children, Ernest Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Doreen, of Pine Bush, and Christine Indzonka and her husband, Peter, of Colonie, N.Y.; his twin sister, Jenny Scigliano of Long Island; and two brothers-in-law, Lou and Frank Paz. She was the widow of Robert Miller Sr. She retired as a Cosmetic Technician at Woolworth's, Middletown and also worked in the meat department of Lloyds & Shop Rite. He was 58 years of age. The son the late Joseph and Stephanie Koczacko Schmittler he was born on February 27, 1947 in Bayonne, New Jersey. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Daughter of Isadore and Rose Schwartz, she was born in Manhattan on the Lower East side and lived most of her life in the Bronx. She was married for 45 years to Sol Simon, who predeceased her. She and her husband, Sol, for over 15 years, owned Sol's Dairy on East 174th St. in the Bronx. Mildred was also employed by the Alexander's Department Store Buying Office in Manhattan. She was especially known for her Jewish cooking, her creative knitting skills, and her love for family. The daughter of the late John and Susanne Mislan, she was born May 18, 1917 in Trenton, N.J. She attended St. Mary's Church in Newburgh, was a member of Community Garden Club, the Powelton Club and active with the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. She moved to Newburgh from Trenton after her marriage to Lt. Graham Witschief, who served in France during World War II. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ruth Mislan of Toledo, Ohio and Joseph and Carol Mislan of Lawrenceville, N.J.; one sister, Mary Smith of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
