"Albie" Albert "Albie" A. Ballato, a lifelong Sloatsburg resident, passed away April 21, 2005 at the age of 80. Albie was born December 15, 1924 to Michael and Josephine Ballato. He received the Purple Heart and five Battle Stars serving with the 204th Combat Engineers of General George Patton's 3rd Army in Europe during World War II; and was also a member of the D.A.V. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Helms) Ballato; two daughters, Brenda and her husband, Paul Heffernan, and Lori and her husband, Richard Matturi; six granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Ballato; one sister, Rose Phillips; and many nieces and nephews also survive him. A family statements reads: "Albie never met a person he didn't like, nor a person that didn't like him." Barker, Earl Earl Barker of Florida, N.Y., entered into rest Thursday April 21, 2005, at home. The son of Harry Sr. and Lena Arnott Barker, he was born February 5, 1931 in Florida, N.Y. He was 74 years old. A member of Florida Presbyterian Church, he is survived by his niece and caregiver, Ruth Shuback of Florida, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Harry Jr., William, Harold, Raymond, Roy and James; and his sisters: Alice, Marion, Florence and Helene. Bruning, a retired electrician with the Middletown Psychiatric Center in Middletown and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 80. The son of Christian Bruning and Ruth Nichols Bruning, he was born January 19, 1925 in Middletown. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and also a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of North Congregational Church in Middletown and C.S.E.A. A statement from the family of Richard E. Bruning, "Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and provider. He was much loved by all of his family and friends. Anyone who knew Richard knew how kind-hearted and forgiving he was. He could never hold a grudge and could never find it in his heart to say "no" to anyone. He was born July 25, 1921 in Bronx, N.Y. to Michael and Josephine (Sullivan) Buckley. He served in the United States Army for 3« years during World War II. On April 7, 1945, John and Theresa A. Vaughan were married in St. Jerome's Church, Bronx, N.Y. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. John was employed for 37 years by the NYC Transit Authority, retiring as Superintendent of the Car Maintenance Department. He spent ten years as a volunteer with the Pearl River Alumni Ambulance Corps; was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society; and also volunteered for the Interfaith Breakfast Program at United Methodist Church in Spring Valley. He served his parish of St. Margaret's as a Eucharistic Minister. John is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; his son, Michael of New City; his daughters, Patricia (Bob) Reid of Cornwall-On-Hudson, and Diane (Dana) Waitman; and adored grandchildren: Robert, Shannon and Matthew (Erica) Reid, and Elissa, Kaeli, Leah and Kevin Waitman; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Huestis. Buonanno, a resident of Washingtonville, formerly of Pearl River, N.Y., and a retired laundromat owner, died April 20, 2005, at home. He was 56. The son of Frank Buonanno and Catherine Zanfardino Buonanno, he was born September 18, 1948 in Bronx, N.Y. Charles was a loving brother and caring uncle. Known as "Uncle Charlie" to family and friends alike, he was a mentor to many, and was always good for a laugh with his super personality when you were down. He lived each day to its fullest. Corbacio, Nicholas Nicholas Corbacio, a retired fur worker and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday April 20, 2005, at Campbell Hall Nursing Home. He was 91. The son of Eustachio and Anna Rose Sardella Corbacio, he was born April 1, 1914 in Monopli, Bari, Italy. A member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Montgomery and the American Legion in Montgomery, Mr. Corbacio was a member of the first draft contingent to leave Middletown on January 31, 1941, almost a full year before Pearl Harbor. He was sent to Hawaii immediately after Pearl Harbor, where he received intensive jungle training. Mr. Corbacio participated in the invasion of the Marshall Islands and was wounded on Eniwetok atoll on February 19, 1944. He carried shrapnel in his back for the rest of his life. Among other commendations and ribbons, Mr. Corbacio was awarded the Purple Heart. He remained a proud American to the end of his days. He was the widower of Elvira Aiello Corbacio, whom he married in 1948. She died in 2000. He is survived by one brother, Frank Corbacio of Middletown, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Philomena Napolitano; and two brothers, Vincent and Dominick Corbacio. She was born in Queens, N.Y. and had been a resident of Ocean Breeze Park, Fla. for five years, coming from Washingtonville, N.Y. A homemaker, Patricia attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach. Gavlick, Francis James "Frank" Francis "Frank" James Gavlick, a retired corrections officer for Warwick Training School, died late in the evening on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at his home. His daughter Regina and his granddaughter, Melissa and her fianc‚, Vincenzo Lippiello were at his side. He was 87 years old. One of four children born to Roman and Sophia Czerwiecha Gavlick, he was born on November 2, 1917 in Pine Island. Frank married Harriet 'Louise" Freer on October 25, 1942 in St. Joseph's RC Church in Middletown. A Veteran of World War II, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army, he received his honorable discharge on January 14, 1946 and received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post # 692. Frank was a very spiritual man who cherished his Polish heritage and he had a personal dedication to serving others and a special love for the Carmelite Fathers. He shared everything he had with those in need. He is survived by three daughters, Regina Gavlick of Middletown, Barbara Ruthberg and her husband, Joseph of Palm Harbor, FL and Shelley Childs and her husband, John of Suffolk, VA; six grandchildren, Peter, Kristen, Melissa, Rebecca, Kiersten and Christopher as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born May 3, 1917 in Port Jervis, N.Y., the son of the late Phillip and the late Anna May Fahey Geib. He was married to the late Muriel V. Kelly Geib; she died Sept. 24, 1994. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church; Knights of Columbus Council No. 471; AARP; Tri-States Naval Ship, VFW Post No. 7241 and was a former member of the German-American Athletic Club of NYC where he participated in many running events in the late 1930s. He was also a Navy veteran of WW II and a former member of the Port Jervis Elk's Lodge No. 645, BPOE. Surviving are son, Thomas Kelly Geib and his wife Laura of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two daughters, Kathleen Dickson of Port Jervis, Jacqueline Burns and her husband Thomas of Port Jervis; sister, Mary E. The son of Howard Taylor and Leona McMahan Holroyd, he was born November 21, 1926 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was a member of the Park Avenue Christian Church in New York, N.Y. Survivors include his sisters, Janet Vergoth of Middletown, and Dr. Mary Brennan-Kerr and her husband, Ted, of Austin, Texas; and his brother-in-law, David Agnew of Ohio. Jones, age 77, of Kathan Road, died Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2005 at his home. Born on March 28, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio he was the son of Earl C. Jones Sr. and Eva (Daniels) Jones. Earl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 16 to serve during World War II. He participated in the action against the enemy at Okinawa as well as the occupation of Japan and was awarded a Purple Heart. He then enlisted in the United States Naval reserves. Upon completion of his military duties, Earl returned to Milford High School in Milford, Ohio to earn his high school diploma. He then attended Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. He married Sally Brown on May 26, 1951 in Chicago, IL. Earl was employed as Plant and Parts Manager for Volvo of North America, Rockleigh, NJ for many years prior to his retirement in 1990. In 1989, Earl and Sally bought property on Lake Sacandaga and built their home in the town of Day. He was a member of the Hadley-Luzerne Lions Club and an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Lake Luzerne where he had served as Sr. Warden for many years, served on the church vestry and as treasurer and chairman of the church restoration fund. Earl loved his family dearly. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren out on his boat. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing poker with his poker club and playing golf with the "Kathan Group". Earl will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family. His faith, strength and courage were an inspiration to all who knew him and his sense of humor will continue to make them laugh as all the memories are kept in their hearts. They will miss him greatly but know he is always standing by their side filling them with love. Kanoff, Herbert Oscar Formerly of Middletown, N.Y. Mr. Herbert Oscar Kanoff, age 66, of Anderson, S.C., died Tuesday April 19, 2005, at Anderson Area Medical Center. Born in Middletown, N.Y., on November 29, 1938, Mr. Kanoff was the son of the late Herbert Emit Kanoff and Emma Splatter Kanoff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was formerly employed by VAW in Ellenville, N.Y. Mr. Kanoff was an active bowler in Middletown, Port Jervis and Anderson, S.C. Survivors include his wife, Carol Beach Kanoff of Middletown; daughter, Sue Turner of Cordova, Tenn.; brother, Lawrence Kanoff of Middletown; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Jesse Lee Turner and Sarah Elizabeth Turner. Parrella, age 62, of Newark, Del., and formerly of Cornwall, N.Y., died due to a sudden illness on Tuesday April 19, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, Del. James was born in Newburgh, N.Y. on June 22, 1942. An electrician by profession and a member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) for 30 years, he had been employed with the General Motors Corporation for 15 years. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall and Holy Family in Newark, Del. An avid historian and railroad enthusiast, James was a member of the Key Lock and Lantern Society; the Mohawk and Hudson Railroad Society; and the Ontario and Western Historical Society. He was also an avid beekeeper. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 12 years, Deborah (Verville) Parrella; five daughters: Linda J. Parrella of Newburgh, Jill M. Parrella-Vaughn of Bronxville, N.Y., Jennifer A. Parrella of Croydon, Pa., Angel C. Catalan of Passaic, N.J., and Catherine V. Ruger, George George Ruger, 45, passed from this life to the next on April 13, 2005 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after a valiantly fought battle with cancer. He was born March 16, 1960 in Ellenville, N.Y. George is survived by Lula Ruger Bathe, his lifelong friend and the mother of his beloved children: Randy Ruger of Wurtsboro, Amanda Ruger of Port Jervis, and Kennedy Ruger of Glen Spey. He is also survived by his parents, George and Donna Ruger of Ocala, Fla.; his brother, Dale Ruger of Walden; his sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Paul Vinci of Walden; and several nieces and nephews. George was blessed with the gift of creativity. He was an artist, accomplished horticulturist, and master landscaper. He was also an athlete in his youth, competing in track and wrestling. Zwart, Beatrice F. Beatrice F. Zwart of Walden, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday April 21, 2005, at St Luke's Hospital. She was 84. The daughter of Albert and Augusta Decker, she was born May 26, 1920 in Circleville, N.Y. She was a member of The Harmony Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Seniors at the church; the Coldenham Garden Club; and Christian Woman's Club. Beatrice loved homemaking, gardening, bird watching and painting with oil colors. She was the widow of Nicholas J. Zwart. Survivors include her daughter, Judith Turner and husband, Norman, of Montgomery, three sons: Paul Zwart and wife, Kathy, of Walden, David Zwart and wife, Karen, of Goosecreek, S.C., and Daniel Zwart and wife, Wendy, of Ashburn, Va.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Esther Scott and Laura Gabriels. Visitation will be Sunday April 24, 2005 from 5-8 PM at the Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, N.Y. Funeral services will be Monday, April 25, 1:00 PM at Harmony Baptist Church, 1790 Rte 211, Middletown, N.Y. with the Rev. D. Mason Whitley III officiating. Burial will be in Hamptonburgh Cemetery in Hamptonburgh, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at Wallkill Reformed Church, P.O.
