He was 69. The son of Morris Berger, he was born on November 30, 1935 in New York City, New York. Max was a long time resident of Sullivan County and resided at Crystal Run Village WRPitt IRA. He attended the Rose Valley Senior Program in Monticello. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include all his loving friends at Crystal Run Village. A family statement: "Olga was a loving wife and mother, she loved gardening, cooking and was an avid reader." She was the wife of Charles Bianchi. Carbone, Samuel Stewart Samuel Stewart Carbone, a longtime resident of the area, died Friday, April 22, 2005 in Charlotte, N.C. He was 33. The son of Frank A. Carbone Jr. and Lynne E. Stewart, he was born December 20, 1971 in Poughkeepsie. He was a bass player for the band All Out War and a Grateful Dead fan. Survivors include his mother, Lynne E. Stewart of New Windsor; father, Frank A. Carbone Jr. of Newburgh; daughter, Cayla Erin Lynn Carbone of Chicago; brothers, Frank A. Carbone III of Newburgh and Anthony Carbone and his wife Siby of Newburgh; Goddaughter and niece Marissa Carbone; nephews, Anthony Carbone Jr. and Christopher Carbone. Knibbs, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y. after a long battle with emphysema. She was 76 years old. The daughter of the late Guy Ashburn and Carrie Cargill Weyant Chapman, she was born on December 17, 1928 in Highland Falls. Marjorie was the widow of Richard E. Knibbs Sr. who passed away November 30, 1987. They were married July 22, 1950. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Prado and her husband Albert, Gale Lumbardo of Otisville; four sons, Richard Jr., William, Mark and David and his wife Laura of New Hampton; one sister, Etta Laferrier and her husband Maurice of Enfield, CT; sister-in-law Roberta A. Stanley Shustack of Cornwall; many grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Doheny, Helen Manolakos Helen Manolakos Doheny, a 40-year area resident, passed away on Sunday April 24, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 80. The daughter of John and Mary Manolakos she was born on June 3, 1924 in Suffern, N.Y. She was a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty and a member of Foster Grandparents of Liberty Central Schools. Helen was a member of The Poetry Guild. She had several of her works published and she was the recipient of several awards for her literature and poetry. Quoting her son, "My life was blessed to have a mother who was loving, strong but kind-hearted with a deep sense of spirituality. She had a keen wit and loved animals. As a writer and poet herself, she loved painting, music and dancing. In her youth, she traveled and explored, experiencing life to its fullest. My mother was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends." Survivors include her son, Jonathan Statt and his wife Jan of Liberty; a grandson, Jonathan Jerrold Statt of Liberty; a special niece, Joyce Chatfield and her husband Larry of Northport, FL; a brother-in-law, Charles McLaughlin of Northport, FL; a sister-in-law, Nell Manolakos of Uncasville CT. and various cousins. Margaret C. Kastner, of Middletown, assistant director, having retired after 45 years from Horton Memorial Hospital and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Glen Arden in Goshen. The daughter of Edward and Bessie Murphy Coleman, she was born in Otisville, N.Y. She was the widow of Frederick B. Kastner. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Middletown as well as having been a member of the Altar Rosary Society and she was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies' Auxiliary. Survivors include her nieces, Cheryl Karas of Lakewood, N.J. and Judy and Charles Sutton of Terra Alta, W. Va. and her nephews, Jim Kane of California, James Newsome of Middletown, Roger Newsome of Middletown and William Mapes of Rochester, N.Y. She is also survived by Ginger Mapes of Middletown. Kennedy OP, Sister Margaret Vincent Sister Margaret Vincent Kennedy, OP, died Sunday evening, April 24, 2005 at Connecticut Hospital Branford, Conn. The daughter of the late Edward V. and Margaret Darrow Kennedy, she was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., August 30, 1926. A sister Mary Jane Kennedy of Connecticut survives her. Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh Novitiate in September 1944, made her Final Profession August 25, 1949. She graduated from Saint Mary School in Poughkeepsie and from Mount Saint Mary Academy, Newburgh; received a BA Degree in Latin from Villanova University and an MA from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., also majoring in Latin of which she was permanently certified to teach in the State of New York. She was granted a certificate in Theology from Providence College, Providence, R.I. Her ministries included elementary school teaching at Holy Family, New Rochelle, N.Y.; Sts. John and Paul, Larchmont, N.Y.; and Saint Rose of Lima, Haddon Heights, N.J. She served as a Latin teacher in the following secondary schools, Pope Pius XII, Passaic, N.J. and Saint Joseph, Toms River, N.J. Sister served as principal at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., assistant principal at Immaculate High School, Danbury, Conn. and principal at both Mount Saint Mary Academy and Mount Saint Mary High School here in Newburgh from 1969-1978. In 1978, Sister taught Latin at Saint Mary High School in New Haven, Conn. where she also produced all their musicals. When the school closed in 1991, she transferred her teaching to Saint Francis Elementary School in New Haven where she was a librarian and an art teacher until her death. He was 88 Harold was born on January 16, 1917 in Ferndale, N.Y., the son of Jacob and Anna Barish Sussman. Mr. Sussman was a graduate of Liberty High School and St. John's University, where he was elected the first Jewish President of the student body, and of St. John's University Law School. He practiced law for more than fifty years in Liberty, where he also served as Village Attorney from 1950 until 1971, and was Estate Transfer Tax Attorney for New York State. He was also active in many civic organizations; he was a past Grand Exalted Ruler of the Liberty Elks Lodge 1545, a founding member of the Liberty Chapter of Rotary International and a member of both Congregation Ahavath Israel and the Ferndale Synagogue. Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years the former Florence Yeager, his son; Robert and his wife Gayle Sussman, his daughter; Barbara Frogel and her husband Dr. Marvin Frogel, and his grandchildren; Jeffrey, Amy, Rachel Sussman, David Frogel and Nicole Frogel Cohen, and two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters; Becky Tannenbaum and Yetta Wiener Abramson and Pearl Perlmutter, and by one brother; Moe Sussman. Virginia Ruth Wetherell of Glendale, Arizona, former long time resident of Monroe, NY, passed away on Saturday April 23, 2005. She was 83. She was the daughter of Louis and Stephanie Hessler and was born in Manhattan, NY. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Survivors include her two sons, Bruce E. Furbeck and Robert Wetherell, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Phyllis Farrell and a grandson, Brian. Weyant, Richard F. Richard F. Weyant (Dick) of Highland Mills, NY, died peacefully at Orange Regional Medical Center, Goshen, NY, on April 22, 2005 with his family at his bedside. He was born July 10, 1926 in Tuxedo, NY, the son of the late Frank and Irene Cromwell Weyant. He was a burner serviceman, retired from Carpenter and Smith, Inc., Monroe, NY. He attended Tuxedo and Monroe Schools and received his GED in Alaska in later years. In August of 1943, he enlisted in the US Navy. He received training in Newport, Rhode Island and Little Creek, Utah. He was assigned to the 6th Beach Battalion and was sent overseas to Swansea, Wales and then Netly Hant, England to prepare for the invasion of Normandy. The 6th Beach Battalion landed on Fox Green, Omaha Beach in the first hours of the D-Day invasion. They endured fierce enemy resistance and suffered many casualties. The Beach Battalion remained in Normandy aiding wounded troops and landing equipment and supplies for the invasion inland. Dick returned to England with the Beach Battalion in time to celebrate his 18th birthday. Later, he was stationed in Oceanside, California and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Seaman First Class. For service to his country, he received the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the European Theatre Medal (1 star), and the Crois De Guerre Certificate. In 2002, the entire 6th Beach Battalion was granted the Presidential Unit Citation with Arrowhead for their heroic efforts on D-Day. In the years after the war, he was a logger on the Oregon coast and in Sitka, Alaska. Dick returned to Monroe in 1970 and went to work at Carpenter and Smith, Inc., Monroe. During his years of retirement, Dick went to secondary schools to speak about his D-Day experiences. He also enjoyed going to Pine Tree School in Monroe each year to talk to students about growing up in Monroe in the 1930s. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dona, at home; his daughters, Michelle (Shelly) Weyant and her fiance Wayne Richter of Highland Falls, NY, Debra Weyant of Troutdale, Oregon, Christina Eckman of Kapolei, Hawaii; and his granddaughter, Hannah Dew of Killeen, Texas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Lucas and brother-in-law, Don Lucas of Monroe; brothers-in-law, William Elliot of Harriman and Thomas Elliot of Colorado; and sister-in-law and family Linda, Garry, and Colleen Rudd of Buena Vista, Colorado. He is also survived by his niece and husband Lynn and David Darrigo of Goshen; niece and family Diane, Robert, Rebbeca, and Jason Klein of Monroe; nephew Rick Young of Pennsylvania; nephew and family Robb, Dawn, Sabrina, and Camille Young of Monroe; niece Suzanne Elliot of Illinois; niece Donna Lucas-Zcharko and husband Michael and daughters of Maryland; nephew and family James and Lisa Lucas of Arizona; nephew and family Peter and Robin Lucas of Ohio; nephew and family John and Beth Lucas of Illinois; nephew and wife Robert and Jessica Lucas of Pennsylvania; niece Jayne Hesse, her husband John, and children John Paul and Kelly of Mountain Lodge Park, NY; and many friends.
