He was 91 years old. The son of the late Abraham and Fanny Gotkin Ginsberg, he was born on May 29, 1914 in Bronx, N.Y., and grew up in Jeffersonville, N.Y. Dr. Baker graduated from the College of the City of New York, and obtained a Ph.D. from Columbia University. During World War II, he worked for the US Department of Agriculture in Puerto Rico. After the War he began his teaching career at Hofstra College in New York, and then accepted a position at Rutgers University. He continued to teach and chair the department at Rutgers until retirement. He was also a consultant to municipalities in the state of New Jersey and wrote several college text books. He is survived by his two sons, Milton and Harvey; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Lisa, David and Sara Baker; and the family of Dorothy Weiss. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sophie Baker (nee Kahn); his second wife, Dorothy Weiss; and one brother, George. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 14 at Herbert C. Bischoff, a respected and longterm resident of Monroe for over 40 years, passed away on Thursday August 11, 2005 after a short illness. Maria was best known for once having been the owner of the Monroe Bakery and her dedicated service to both Sacred Heart and Saint Anastasia parishes. Many veteran townspeople would well remember a kind word with Maria while buying a bagel and coffee or a warm hello while working in the kitchens of her beloved churches. Maria, a loving wife and mother, leaves behind her husband Otto; three children: Marty, Michael and Carrie, and her five grandchildren: Nicole, Michelle, Paul, Steven and Amanda. Maria will also be missed by her family in Germany, whom she's kept in close contact with over the years, since immigrating to the U.S. Maria has made an indelible mark on the community by her selfless devotion and commitment to family, friends and community. Campbell, Lillian Margaret (Haynes) Lillian Margaret (Haynes) Campbell died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at The Arbors in Shelburne, Vt. She was in her 100th year of life. Mrs. Campbell moved to New Paltz as a bride in 1936, living first on Tricor Avenue and then on Prospect Street. Mrs. Campbell was born February 27, 1906 in Dunkirk, N.Y., where she grew up. The daughter of Margaret Gast Haynes and Fred E. Haynes, she was the eldest of four children. She attended public schools in Dunkirk, graduating from Dunkirk High School in 1924, and from Fredonia State Normal School, Fredonia, N.Y. in June of 1927. In August of 1936, she married Loren D. Campbell in her hometown of Dunkirk. They had two children, David Bruce Campbell and Margaret Ann Campbell. Bruce now lives with his wife Jean in Painted Post, N.Y., and Margaret lives in Killington, Vt. Always active in her community, Mrs. Campbell's memberships and associations over the years included the League of Women Voters, the SUNY College at New Paltz Faculty Wives, the New Paltz Study Club, American Field Service and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, for which she served a term as treasurer. She was also active with the New Paltz Girl Scouts and in 1937, she formed and led their first Brownie Scout Troop. She was a longtime member of the New Paltz Reformed Church, participating in the Women's Guild, teaching Sunday School and volunteering at Old Stone House Day. Mrs. Campbell had a long career as an educator in New York State, first taking short term assignments in Silver Creek, Oswego, Highland, and the State College at New Paltz. She taught for a long time at Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. and in the New Paltz Public School System. Continuing her own learning, she received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Art Education from the State University College at New Paltz in 1959 and completed a Regional Program in Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers from 1964-1965. In 1967, she was nominated as a candidate for Teacher of the Year in New York State, an honor given by the New York State Teachers Association. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her children; her sister Janette Christopherson of Frewsburg, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Helen Campbell Brehm of Tustin, Mich.; three nephews and four nieces. Davis Clarke, he was born March 23, 1985 in Middletown, N.Y. Darnell was a member of the Rehoboth Christian Center in Middletown and was a former football player at Middletown High School. Connolly, of Goshen, a 48-year resident and retired lawyer at Connolly and Connolly in Goshen, N.Y., died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Orange County residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. He was 98. The son of John Joseph Connolly and Katherine Leyden Connolly, he was born November 6, 1906 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Bill was a graduate of Georgetown University in 1929 and received a Law Degree from New York University. He was a lawyer in New York City for over 20 years. He and his family then moved to Goshen, where he was an area resident for the past 48 years. Practicing law well into his 80s, Bill was active in the Democratic Party and numerous church and social organizations. Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Survivors include two daughters, Vicky Wilson and husband Jim of Madrid, Spain and Laurie Chertock and husband Stephen of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, John Connolly of New Windsor and Stephen Connolly and wife Esther Fernandez of Barcelona, Spain; seven grandchildren, Michael Chertock, Amy Chertock Koehler, Nicholas Chertock, Nora Connolly Eyle, Christina Connolly Wilson, Andrew Connolly Wilson and Teresa Connolly Fernandez; one great-granddaughter, Maria Chertock; and several nieces and nephews. Corcoran Sr., Thomas Joseph Thomas Joseph Corcoran Sr., a worker for the Teamsters Union for 25 years, Tillcon (TrapRock) for six and resident of the area for many years, died August 11, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 60. The son of the late John and Helen Platt Corcoran, he was born December 28, 1944 in Queens, N.Y. He married Marie Vetrano on April 24, 1965 in Queens. He was an avid sportsman and Dallas Cowboy Fan. His hobbies were movies and spending time with his grandchildren. A family statement reads, "Tom was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who sacrificed all his life for his family. He never complained and worked all his life so that his children and wife could have everything they ever wanted. 'No' was not in his vocabulary no matter what the situation. He would give you the shirt off his back and he could always make you smile with a joke. You never knew what to believe. He was loved by so many and will never be forgotten." Hoefler, 54, of Oxford, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the Ware Presbyterian Home in Oxford. He was the husband of Elsbeth Palmroth Hoefler with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles and Jean Rollo Hoefler. Mr. Hoefler was a graduate of Lehigh University. He continued his education at the University of Delaware where he received a Master's degree in food chemistry. He was employed as a chemist by Hercules in Wilmington, Del. and for the last five years owned and operated Brookside Consulting. He was a member of the St. Christophers Episcopal Church in Oxford and the American Chemical Society. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two daughters Miranda, wife of Scott Weaver of York, Pa., Karla Hoefler of Oxford and two grandchildren. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years; was a charter member of the Otisville Country Garden Club; the Wednesday morning Bible Study group; and was a member of a great pinochle group. She loved life and its comforts - to live well, love much and laugh often; and most of all, a Christian with a faith in Jesus Christ, and she would like you to know Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Napolitano "Scooch", a resident of Tuxedo, died on August 11, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. He was born on March 17, 1925, the son of Carmela and Carmine Napolitano. He was a Veteran of the 29th Infantry Division and saw action in both theaters of war in 1943. On February 18, 1946, he was Honorably discharged. Ralph was a charter member of the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and an honorary member of the Tuxedo Park Fire Department, The Tuxedo Silver Dollars, the H.H Rogers Cabrini Lodge. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother and loving Grandfather. They will miss his wit and prolific talent of jokes and dedicated support of the Tuxedo High School sports. Roberts Jr., a retired mechanic at the former New Paltz Tractors, New Paltz, and resident of Gardiner for most of his life, died Thursday, August 11, 2005 in Kingston Hospital. He was 90. The son of the late Thomas F. Roberts Sr. and Irene Roberts, he was born October 27, 1914 in New York City. He served in the Army during WW II and was a life-member of the Gardiner Fire Dept.; St. Charles, Gardiner; VFW Post 8645, New Paltz; Ulster Co. Police Chiefs Association. He was also past town of Gardiner Constable (chief). He was predeceased by his wife Helen Ruger Roberts on April 18, 1995. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving from 1943 to 1947. Robert served in Pearl Harbor Hawaii and was aboard the USS Arizona during the Japanese Air Raid on Pearl Harbor. Stepski and Catherine Berard Stepski, he was born August 4, 1945 in Cornwall. Leo was an auto parts clerk in Newburgh and Arkville, and most recently a shuttle bus driver for Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. He was a member of the Arkville Fire Department. Leo had a great sense of humor and enjoyed people. He played on a softball league in Newburgh and on the Delaware and Ulster Horseshoe League. He was an active supporter of girls athletics at M.C.S. Sullivan, Dorothy R. Dorothy R. Sullivan, of Warwick, died on August 11, 2005. She was 65. Born on August 26, 1939 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of William P. Francois and Catherine Pleickhardt Francois. She was married to John Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan was a packer with J and E Produce in Goshen. Survivors include her husband John Sullivan; two sons, John Sullivan Jr. of Florida, N.Y. and Doug Sullivan of Goshen; two daughters, Brenda Moore of Goshen and Valerie Sullivan of Camp Creek, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers Jack Francois, Kenneth Francois, Kevin Francois and Richard Francois; two sisters, Florence Klemmer and Lorraine Francois; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Barbara Smykla; brothers William Francois and Michael Francois and sister Caroline Owens. Wanczyk, Peter Stanley Peter Stanley Wanczyk, of Florida, N.Y., a retired self-employed tree service worker and a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Thursday, August 11, 2005 in O.R.M.C. - Horton Campus, Middletown, N.Y. He was 80. The son of Joseph & Angelia Oles Wanczyk, he was born on April 22, 1925 in Florida, N.Y. He was the widower of Rose T. Tesoro Wanczyk. Peter was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Korea. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Florida and the Florida Legion Post #1250, Florida, N.Y.
